"A Sonic RPG? Puh-lease!"
I know there have been a lot of attempts at Sonic RPGs in the past, both amateur and professional, and I know the community at large at RMN aren't fans of fangames. I want to put those fears to rest here and now.
Many Sonic fangames are made by kids with no experience in games design, who immediately throw something together as they go along, using mismatched ripped graphics and REFMAP material, resulting in something truly awful.
Professional attempts focus too much on Sonic elements, not enough on the RPG elements and we end up with a hybrid of top down Sonic and Super Mario RPG/ the Mario & Luigi series. Sounds interesting but it's not a winning formula.
This game is being made by a 22 year old Games Art & Design graduate who has played Sonic games for a more than healthy proportion of my life. I will put nods to Sonic's traditional gameplay into the game, however, the focus will be on the RPG element of the game.
The character sprites (outside of battle) were created by Zach Zin Furr, I have recoloured them to be game accurate and also made some minor edits to them. The map tiles are custom made by myself, going for a simplistic style, whilst heavily referencing the original Sonic maps, and again, using game accurate palettes.

The Plot
The game opens with Sonic and Tails investigating the Scrap Brain Zone after an influx of older model badniks start appearing on South island, and the adventure unfolds from there. The plot will feature Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Team Chaotix, the Silver, Mecha and Metal Sonics (referred to in-game as Metal Sonic Protottype, Metal Sonic Mk I, and Metal Sonic Mk II), Project Chaotix, and of course, Robotnik, with a few surprises!
The plot takes place after Sonic & Knuckles and Knuckles Chaotix, and the gang have met Nack/ Fang, Bean and Bark. The plot should be considered as existing in it's own universe and will show influences and a certain character from Fleetway's Sonic the Comic.
That's all I'm willing to reveal at this time.

I am currently considering adding in Sega favourites such as Ristar and Sketch Turner as Summons, but am unsure as to whether this would be too intrusive to the game's overall atmosphere.

As much as I'd like to pretend these aren't the most important element to some people, it is. I'll let the screenshots speak for themselves and in the meantime I will show you some graphical edits I've had to make for other areas of the game.
