It's another sunny day in Pleasant Valley, and young Dan's got a smile on his face! Today's the day he gets to go to the city of Brownstone to see his good friend Jack, someone he hasn't seen for quite some time.

However, it turns out a day of fun and games is soon cut short, as the two of them are caught up in a series of events regarding a mystical artifact known as the KiraStar.

Should be pretty simple for a couple of kids, right?

FEATURES
• Custom made sprites.
• An original soundtrack by BurningTyger.
• No complicated systems. Just straight forward, easy to use RPG action!
• A series of quirky events.
• Quests! Puzzles! Smiles!
• A lighthearted story about two friends growing up together.

A LITTLE ABOUT KIRASTAR
KiraStar has been knocking around in my head for almost seven years. It originally started out as a web comic about video games, and had a rather silly sense of humour.

Over the years, I started leaning more towards making a video game. Originally it was a side-scrolling RPG, then it was a traditional RPG (which some of you may have played), and has continued to be reworked and redesigned, though one core factor has remained the same: Keep it simple, keep it fun.

I've been somewhat of a shadowy stalker of the RPG Making community for a long time now. I've played quite a few awesome games made by some very talented people, but I've played more that have only been about the "systems" then the actual experience. It's cool that you've made this in an engine it wasn't designed to do, but why should I care? What does it add?

I'm certainly not saying that KiraStar is revolutionary. KiraStar has been designed around what RPG Maker XP can do. Many of the scripts sitting in it's database are there to enhance what it can already do, rather than replace what it did.

I'm not trying to set the world on fire. All I want to do is create a little adventure that should (hopefully) put a smile on your face.

KiraStar: The Polybius Problem (the demo) will be available on May 4th, 2013, to coincide with the Release Something Weekend.

Hooooly cariboo, this looks awesome! I love the art style used. Subbed.
This actually looks p cool, this is like the first VX game that isn't just original art with RTP ingame graphics (from what Ive seen anyway).

The character sprites used are in the style of RMVX, but this is an XP game. I just adored the chibi sprite style. Thanks for the comment! :)

Is this a furry game?

I'm going to say no, with a hint of yes. It's more "cartoony" then "furry". One of the characters has a tail, and you fight walking, talking rats. So, maybe a little.

That is an incredible compliment! Thank you so much! :D
hmm why are the message/system sound effects in the left ear? it really bothers me.

I hadn't noticed that. My speakers are pretty crappy. I'm assuming it's because the message/system SFX are from NES games.

Just loaded them in Audacity. Seems they're mono sounds in a stereo format, so they only play through the left side. I've converted them now, and they play through both.

Thanks for letting me know! I imagine it was irritating if you use headphones. :D
This game was very great! I agree it has that awesome earthbound feel. Great work please keep it up! Subscribed.
So I played this, and I'd really appreciate an option to set the typing sound off.
Every time I see this game on rmn I mistakenly assume it has something to do with this game.
I like your game-making philosophy and that's how everyone should roll - less stress that way.
I like this game but i was unable to save my progress in the end of demo. You should give the player a chance to save after walking out of mayor's office. There are people who don't want to play the same thing again.

Other then that it is quite a good presentation,3.5/5

You can save at any of the payphones dotted around the city. I must admit, I didn't really make that very clear in the demo.

Haha, this game looks really nifty. I'll try it sometime soon.
Yeah this game is pretty good. Definitly has the earthbound feel, which is great. Nice work so far. It is annoying you cant walk over the side walk any where onto the street.
I have my game slow down a lot in battles. Then when i got to max i couldnt see him, only his talking. Then my game froze up when i went in polybius. Up until then great game.
