Hey! This is my first completed project for rpgmaker2003, it's a short non-linear exploration game. Even though it is non-linear, it does have an ending. The point of the game is about figuring what's going on. It's an exploration, but most of the discoveries will be about what happened to the protagonist. The aesthetic is based on old gameboy RPG's, this includes graphics, music and writting style. It's a short game. It really shouldn't take anyone more than an hour from start to finish.

Most of the graphics and music were made by me, but there are some exeptions. Some tiles (flower tiles, all water tiles, dirt, walls) are from The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, and others (seats, bookshelves) are from Pokemon Red. Not_home_anymore is similar in parts to a song from Digimon World 3, and Alone might be entirely plagarized from somewhere, though I cannot recall from where (If anyone knows, please leave a comment). All sound effects are from Link's Awakening, except the stair climbing sound which is from A Link to the Past. They were all taken from HelpTheWretched's website (http://noproblo.dayjo.org/ZeldaSounds/ ).

As far as difficulty goes, there are no fights, there is no way to lose, except to get stuck, of course. I would recommend the old strategy of talking to every NPC in case you do get stuck, though. I made a point of always making the NPC that gave the hint before the flower they hinted at. I Hope you enjoy playing it as much as I enjoyed making it!

I share some things with you narcodis...
The character being dead from start, and confronting himself at the end.

I thought that he hanged himself after surviving from the accident (his brother death was his fault). And so, he felt that his mom, his brother and even himself would never forgive him unless he did the 'promise'.

(If something doesn't makes sense of what I said, spare me, and correct me if you don't mind... heh).
Uhm uhm uhm well i was not so lost then:

I went to the forest first and then to the hotel, so, the first thing that came to mind was "What about if he suicided??". The similarities between the protagonist and the guy that hung himself were too notorious
It's actually good to know that the "official" interpretation doesn't make that much more sense than alternative interpretations.

I actually believe in death of the author, so I don't really feel obliged to have a watertight interpretation. Besides, chana's interpretation is just so much more elegant.

I didn't like this game. I didn't want to play this game. I reviewed it. I respect this game, but I think that it is not very fun.

I statements!
I don't think it's fun either. Not sure it's supposed to be "fun". I still love this game for what it is.

Movies don't have to be funny, but a primary attribute of games is that they are supposed to be fun. Wither failed me in that area.

If you really knew that much about indie/art games as you make it sound, you wouldn't have said that.

if your idea of fun is waiting for the atb gauge to fill so that you can use a skill with a 1/(60*n^3) chance of hitting then no, wither is not fun at all

and what are you talking about, all movies must be funny, that's a "primary attribute" of movies!!!! the funny stat!!!
equip ben stiller for maximum penalty
I suppose the correct term would be entertaining, not funny.
It's just a supposition though.
What an awesome game! Short and sweet! Kind of cryptic and a bit morbid but that is right up my ally! The design is nearly flawless and is a must play for any rpgmaker fan! Awesome ending!
This type of game is just my thing.
Loving the dry, morbid humor in all of it. Loving that what has happened isn't explicitly described, not before, not after.
Putting together this childish gameboy feel and such a heavy theme creates something very unique. Totally worth checking out.

(I'm silently wishing for a sequel...)
Personally, I agree with Craze, the game wasn't fun...
I think personally that it had the element of mystery, but what's a mystery without a solution? It's like watching scooby-doo as a kid, just to never find out the culprit, to play cluedo and never find out who did it, to watch Scream and never know who killed everyone... basically what I'm saying is, this game has the problem, but no solution, like a life with no death, it just continues... never ending, leaving you wondering... 'what if'... jumping to several conclusions, but then disagreeing thinking of how silly they are... it envelops you until your mind runs dry... not able to think of any more conclusions... leaving you to wonder
'what if...' and begin the whole cycle again......
P.S before any of 'yall say I'm trolling or being an ass, I'm not, I'm just expressing my veiws on something :P
Of course you're not trolling. You're just looking at the game through different lenses than the ones used by the guy who made it and the people who enjoyed it. :D

I would not call that a bad thing.

so you would love to live and never die, watch the pains and sorrows of many others but keep on living, go through massive depresions where you can't just end it all? Live alone for all eternity, floating through vast blackness when the earth eventually dies... nothing can be worse than that.

That's so not what this discussion is about.
lol wut. All I'm getting at is that a story doesn't have to answer every question you think of. There are a lot of unexplained things irl.
