Hey! This is my first completed project for rpgmaker2003, it's a short non-linear exploration game. Even though it is non-linear, it does have an ending. The point of the game is about figuring what's going on. It's an exploration, but most of the discoveries will be about what happened to the protagonist. The aesthetic is based on old gameboy RPG's, this includes graphics, music and writting style. It's a short game. It really shouldn't take anyone more than an hour from start to finish.

Most of the graphics and music were made by me, but there are some exeptions. Some tiles (flower tiles, all water tiles, dirt, walls) are from The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, and others (seats, bookshelves) are from Pokemon Red. Not_home_anymore is similar in parts to a song from Digimon World 3, and Alone might be entirely plagarized from somewhere, though I cannot recall from where (If anyone knows, please leave a comment). All sound effects are from Link's Awakening, except the stair climbing sound which is from A Link to the Past. They were all taken from HelpTheWretched's website (http://noproblo.dayjo.org/ZeldaSounds/ ).

As far as difficulty goes, there are no fights, there is no way to lose, except to get stuck, of course. I would recommend the old strategy of talking to every NPC in case you do get stuck, though. I made a point of always making the NPC that gave the hint before the flower they hinted at. I Hope you enjoy playing it as much as I enjoyed making it!

I hate Wither because it is so popular. And I'm jealous.
Aaaargh, enough! Congratulations!
I don't even know what the hell happened. I think Chris reposted his review on Gamasutra. Now I'm going from 1500 to 2000 dl's in a day.

I concur.
I just had to grab the 2112th download xDD I'll play it again to make it legit.
Fantastic game in its simplicity, I didn't really try to work out the story, but I can sense that it is indeed quite poignant. Other than that, I agree with almost everyone else that this is a fantastic game, and even though it seemed simple, it was really quite ingenious (as in, the puzzles), and I really loved the way puzzles were incorporated into the story.

An adventure game in the truest sense of the word.
No matter how much I tried to understand it, I didn't the only thing I undertstood was that his brother was dead, that's about it... it reminds me of another game I played on this site, I can't remember it's name, but they are quite similair... I didn't dislike the game, but I didn't like it either...

Was it The Mirror Lied? That one has a bit of a reputation for being incomprehensible.

The main character fulfilled his promise, which he felt he needed to in order to earn death, and killed himself by hanging (he was alive until then). He then met up with his brother in the afterlife.

That doesn't really make a lot of sense.
Hmm...

I thought that he didn't exactly hang himself but it was him being preoccupied with images of death. Because if he was alive up until then(him seeing the guy hanged) then how could he have finished his quest for flowers? There was no real change in him before and after seeing the hanged guy. If you say he did in fact hang himself, then wouldn't he be a wandering soul(dead) for the entire game until he finds all the flowers? at which point his soul is at rest and he can be with his bro.

Him crawling into the grave is when he dies. After seeing the hanged man in the hotel, which is from where he gets the idea to hang himself in his hotel room. So from his perspective he's crawling into a huge underground mausoleum (which doesn't exist!) but he's really walking back to his hotel room and killing himself.

Right, I also have a problem there, when and where would he have hung himself?? As I (lived) played it, he follows his brother in death : in a sort of symbolic way, it is the very fact (and at the moment) of his choice to cross that frontier that makes him die or dead, no matter how, like in latin-greek mythology for example.
Well I guess that's true and makes more sense.
My interpretation:
I thought the whole time the protagonist was dead, wandering around as a ghost, and needed to fulfill his 'promise' to put his spirit to rest. figured the car accident was caused by his brother, but only the main character died in the accident. i figured the suicidal guy in the hotel was the protagonist's brother. at the end of the game, you run into a sprite that looks exactly like your own, thus supporting the idea that there was a sixth-sense-twist of "omg dead the hwole time!?"

but that is clearly wrong.
That's one of the things I kinda like about this game, though. it's very open and clearly has much to interpret.
