Based on the classic Japanese novel, this adaptation combines the visuals of the movie version with the deeper character development of the book and novel. The 42 students of Shiriowa Junior High school are the latest chosen for the sadistic, government-run Program. Stuck on an island it's kill or be killed. There can be only one survivor!

The choice is yours...do you team up with your classmates and attempt to escape the island? Do you prefer to go solo and "play the game" until you're the last one standing? Or perhaps you will try to fight the power and take out the entire Program...

The finished game will feature:

-five playable characters, 3 initial and 2 bonus characters selectable when certain conditions are met
-a 3 day time limit, with corresponding day and night
-some classmates will attack you on sight, some can be saved and some can join you as allies, depending on the player character
-two ally types - active allies participate in battle whilst passive allies can be called on for one-off attacks
-as time passes, different areas of the island will become danger zones. Walk in to one of these and it's game over...
-character development through story flashbacks and dialogue choices that will affect how other students will react to you

The project is in early days yet, so any advice/suggestions will be appreciated!

I watched the movie and liked the concept of these high schoolers being forced to kill each other and scavenge weapons.
A nice choice for a game project, I must say :)
I always thought this would make a cool game. I thought the movie was okay, but the manga was pretty great! It'll be cool to be able to choose different ways to play.
Very interesting plot, I'll keep an idea on this
This game is based of the film Battle Royal?

This game is based of the film Battle Royal?

First sentence of game description: Based on the classic Japanese novel, this adaptation combines the visuals of the movie version with the deeper character development of the book and novel.
I was wondering what you'll be doing with Kiriyama and Kawada. Will you be following movie version or manga/book? I mean in the movie there are the so called "extras", who joined for fun or were forced to...

Anyway, I'm really, really looking forward to this ^^
Game ideas always floated around Battle Royale but no one ever made one (afaik), hope yours isn't one of them. Subbed.
Kiriyama and Kawada,,,initially I was going to follow the book and have them part of the class, but actually I like their image from the film. By making them transfer students they can wear different uniforms and so stand out more. This is especially true for Kiriyama, who is of course the main antagonist. As the game goes on and he kills more players he will gain more weapons, so each time you fight him he will have different attacks. Like the manga (where he seems impossible to kill) you'll have to defeat him multiple times before he really dies. And he looks more menacing in the black uniform of the film ^_^

I've finished the prologue, up until when the game starts. Don't worry, I've made it skippable! Now I've started on the map. If I follow the film map, there will be about 50 outdoor locations, plus some indoor ones.

Actually, someone DID make one...but it was incredibly bad though. I think I still have the demo on my old computer.
Overlord you're right. I googled it and there is an old version made with rpg maker 2003(the download link is dead now though). Looking at the screenshot and reading the blog though I'm pretty confident mine will be better ^_^

I love those ideas! I'm definitely going to keep my eye on this one.
Thanks for the positive feedback so far! I've just finished making the island map so I can finally start concentrating on the actual game. There's going to be a super-secret guest ally easter egg too ^_^

But they all had black uniforms in the manga. I loved the fact he used his jacket as a cape :P It looked sexy xD
It's great to have some news about this project.

What I think would be cool is to not only scavenge and find a wide variety of weapons, but also that weapons would have limited uses or break after a while, thus forcing you to keep looking for them and save the more powerful ones for harder fights.
Man, I remember reading that manga. I don't think I've ever hated a villain quite so much. If you can keep his relentlessness (you know who I'm talking about) in your adaptation, I will play the hell out of this game.

Also, I'll run screaming, like a little girl, out of any area he shows up in.

a lot better than being a wapanese kiddo

are you fucking kidding me...
Don't like it? Don't play.

It doesn't have to be the pinnacle of art to be enjoyable.
That's not a bad idea about having limited uses for some weapons. I was going to have other weapons you can find around the map anyway. For guns, there would be limited ammunition (unlike Kiriyama's machine pistol in the manga where he seems to never run out).
