In the dream of a child stands an ancient manor filled with forsaken fancies and empty memories. Mysterious yet familiar to the child that wanders the lifeless house. What lies at the start of waking? Is this truly a dream? A memory? An illusion or reality?

This project contains the compiled maps from the Manor Mapping Madness collaboration. The aim of this project was to create a room with atmosphere - whether it be spooky, dream-like or creepy is up to the map maker.

Bug Update

There's a bug in the new version which makes it impossible to pass. I'm not sure exactly how it happened but a variable was changed and broke the event to get the sun key. I've since fixed the map but there's a few small bits and pieces I've been meaning to fix as well and I'd like to get them done before I upload the (here's hoping) absolute version.

Just unzip and paste the Map0005 and Map0043 files in with the rest of the maps (in the game folder). That should fix it up for now.

If you run into any more bugs, just leave a comment under this blog and I'll add it to the list for fixing and update the patch above.

Quick Update: Added another map to the patch (in downloads section). Apparently one of the switches had been deleted in the end event, leading to the game not being able to be finished. No idea how that came to pass but it's fixed now. Thankfully.

Hmm seems my room is using the unaltered Mac+Blue chipset for the "dark" version but I guess it isn't a huge deal... oh well.
Currently uploading a new update with a lot of fixes for the bugs mentioned.

Basically:
- Garden is now fixed.
- Pantry Cellar is fixed.
- Dungeon common events should run smoother.
- Walk speed issue gotten rid of (as well as the events)
- Some tints altered, though I still left most alone.
- Zephyr's storage issues
- alterego's Church Basement issues

Also, I'm pretty sure that in the kitchen all that happens is that the ghost woman disappears. I think that's all that's supposed to happen, and yes, if confused me too at first.

EDIT: psy, I'll fix that in the next version. Just give people a little longer to find any more bugs. :P

Any other bugs, let me know~

Hmm, I think I'm stuck. Is there a walkthough anywhere?
There's one on this gamepage, under the title Walkthrough~ ^.^

welp I...suck
Just want to say you guys did great with the atmosphere! I was scared through the whole thing and more than once I went "Fuck this room---run away!"
Ok, this is my Bug report as of the latest download. (Thanoy_2) ...Have fun! =9

-The "There's no god" bug is not yet fully fixed. The command that teleports you to that other tiny room is placed before other important commands can happen. As a result the lights never come back on, and even if you stumble your way out of that room and try to go back, you'll hear "There's no god" again and the game will crash.

-Not sure if a bug, but is the armoury supposed to be so dark? It looks nothing like in the screenshot. You can't tell the floor is lava.

-The 'windows' in Psy's dark room don't show. Their priority is set to 'X' when it should be 'Star' I guess...

-You can walk over the cards set on the table in Chana's dinning room.

-Forgot to mention it before, but I couldn't play Demicrusaius's video. Not really a bug, I just lack the right codec to play it, but maybe something can be done about it? Like compressing it with a more universal codec or something?

-If you reset the clock in Faenon's room after setting it to any other hour hour, nor the tint or the music revert back to the way they should be. The parallel processes governing these two things don't account to when variable 41 is set to 0.

-If you speak twice to the second tablet in Deckiller's map the Fountain still moves revealing the entrance to the hidden passage.

-The left part of the shelf in Arcan's storage room disappears when it moves for the very first time. (It reappears when you go back into the room) Some trickery needs to be done in order to fix that. Also, you can walk on top of some boxes there.

-I still get some lag on Julev's dungeon. I think is best to kill that parallel process and figure out a way around it. Maybe by calling that event only when needed? Also, the entrance to the Death room needs to be fixed/completed.

-In the chapel, in every scene where an emoticon (character5) is positioned over Emi's head, move it to one tile below. In the "Exploration" event go all the way down and place a 'jump to label 99' command after the message regarding the door. Lastly, in the "Progession" event, in page 6, go all the way down (again) and delete the Teleport command leading to the Hidden passage, and also delete a 'move down' from the Move Character command right above it; that should patch things up.

-In the hidden room of the Cellar, in the "Exploration" event, change the "Jump to label" command of the last 9 set of coordinates to 12.

-Finally, if you let the bats "kill" you, you're transported to Marrend's room and then nothing happens. You can't even press 9 to trigger the ending. Is that the way it's supposed to be? How about that triggers the ending instead, or something? =P

Oh, and these are the RTP files that I've found to be missing so far.

System2c - System2
Dark1 - Battle
Absorb1 - Battle
Dark1 - Sound
Dark5 - Sound
Char5 - Charaset
Char1 - Charaset
Night2 - Panorama
Bolt09 - Sound
Se-rain - Music
Se-torrent - Music
Woo~
You're THE bug finder. XD
Thanks or the report, I'll get right on fixing these up and adding the alternate ending (now I remember that there was going to be one -.-; ).

I'll drop a line when the new upload is well, up.
I'm disappointed about the video, but the truth is, my computer can't play it either. My computer all around sucks, so I was hoping it was just me. I can only play it if the game is not full screened. Will it play after you press f4?
I am debating taking another .avi file out of my other game Beyond Eden because I am worried that not enough people can play these videos.
I should probably download it again, there have been some bug fixes since I got it.

What kind of computer can't play the sort of AVI files rpg maker uses? They have to be so small to run well in it that your computer would have to be from the early 90s not to run them.

I'm not saying that as an insult, just that I believe there must be something else going on.
Because it's inconceivable for a computer that exists in the here and now can't play avi files of around 4 meg.
Has anyone else noticed how appropriate the title screen is to the end of the game? The song is "Once apon a December" from the Anastasia animated movie. XD

It was completely unintentional on my part, I swear. (Not sure if it were so on alterego's part, though.)

Just adding the extra ending now~
Looks like another download for me then.
Regarding the video issue, it has nothing to do with the size of the file or the age of the computer, but the way the video is compressed. If you don't have the right codec for it you just can't play a video no matter what.

That being said, I eventually managed to play the video outside of rpg maker with a program called 'bsplayer' (which as far as I understand is one of those 'screw the laws, I play whatever I want' programs) but I still couldn't open it in any video edition program. It throws an error about an 'invalid floating point' or something, so, I don't know what else to do... =/

Also, Liberty, I realized that if you don't pray for Anastasia when given the chance (something easy to miss because a certain someone put that as the second option. >.>;) the game becomes technically 'unbeatable'. You cannot trigger that scene again, nor the ending sequence... I hope you still have the time to do something about it. ^^;
Oh shit. yeah, I'll find a way to fix that unbeatable ending.

As to the avi file issue, I'll look into converting it somehow.
I think I'll just take this as "lesson learned" and remove the video from my other game, or at least test it at the beginning of the game or something...
Edit: It should be optional to play the video in THANOY.
Howdy all. So, now that this out...

(Awesome job btw Liberty. It's really well compiled and put together, for a really unique and in places terrifying final product)

...would people mind if I used their maps a blueprint for a mansion in my game?

See, the thing is, I love creating characters and writing dialogue, and plotting, but I really suck at aesthetic stuff, especially mapping. I'm forever trying unsuccessfully to recruit mappers for my game (if anyone's interested, incidentally, let me know. Similarly if anyone is really good at the aesthetic stuff but wants someone to do story and dialogue then I could be interested...take a look at my demo for an example of my work). And, when THANOY was announced I was coincidentally just about to try and start working on a haunted mansion for Ch2 of my rm2k3 game. So when I saw it I was like 'Wow, I could use the maps from this for my own mansion'. So I entered the event, and my (poorly mapped, reasonably well scripted) Guest Room even features characters from my 2k3 game.

Now, let me make this clear, I'm not looking to borrow people's eventing, pictures, parallax backgrounds, custom charsets or whatever. I'm just talking about the bare bones mapping made in the editor. Do people mind if I borrow this for my game? If lots of people object, I won't do it. If just a few people object, then maybe I can just use a few rooms, or if people prefer I could literally just take the room dimensions and outlines and redesign the interior objects. I'm particularly interested in certain maps e.g. The hallway, solarium, living room, etc.

Let me know what you think.

I'd be happy (and proud!) to have you use my map for your game (living room), so really just go ahead, and will love to see the resulting game!
I don't mind if you use any of the master bedroom areas. I love the color edits I did for that chipset. :)
I also may be interested in helping you out with making a few maps. Just send me a chipset file and some guidelines of what you want and some crap that you need me to include.
Make a list of which maps, so people know who you're asking, or send some private PMs to the people instead. Also, I don't mind some of my maps being used, but others I would prefer not be used. Let me know which ones you were looking to use and I'll let you know.

Credits are on the credit page so you know who to ask for which map.
To be honest, I'll take whatever people are willing to lend me!

At an absolute bare minimum, It'd be really great if I could borrow your main hallway, Liberty? ('Liberty Rooms' -I've already edited a version without the blood and parallax stuff so I'm not robbing all your hard work on that.) The Dining Room is also amazing too, I could leave out the chandelier if you don't want that ripped?

Chana and Demi have already kindly agreed to lend the living room and bedroom, thanks! So other than that it's whatever people are willing really, I'd with my theme and storyline I'm most interested in:

-the two rooms above
-Merlinman's children's bedroom
-Psy's pool room (sans custom made lighting effect if desired)
-Max's solarium
-and Julev's kitchen.

SGCN, Sillydan, Happy, Marrend and Zyntax's stuff would be an added bonus. Remember I'm only talking about the first two layer mapping -not events/pictures/parallaxes/charsets/animations etc.

It would be amazing to include the garden as well, if Deckkiller agrees? But I can understand if not seeing as heck of a lot of work seems to have gone into it... The related areas are pretty awesome too...(Arcan, Zephyr, altergeo.) Let me know what you think.

Thanks Demi. I may just take you up on that...watch your inbox. How would you feel about making a big jungle map, or helping me with a redesigned chrono trigger carnival map?
