Bug Update

There's a bug in the new version which makes it impossible to pass. I'm not sure exactly how it happened but a variable was changed and broke the event to get the sun key. I've since fixed the map but there's a few small bits and pieces I've been meaning to fix as well and I'd like to get them done before I upload the (here's hoping) absolute version.

Just unzip and paste the Map0005 and Map0043 files in with the rest of the maps (in the game folder). That should fix it up for now.

If you run into any more bugs, just leave a comment under this blog and I'll add it to the list for fixing and update the patch above.

Quick Update: Added another map to the patch (in downloads section). Apparently one of the switches had been deleted in the end event, leading to the game not being able to be finished. No idea how that came to pass but it's fixed now. Thankfully.

Finally Complete and Getting back in the Fryingpan

As the title says, the new version - the complete version - is now up and ready for your perusal. Finally, it's done. The bugs are fixed, the missing files added, the new ending finally sorted out and it is done.

Just in time for the next Halloween event. That is, FoMaMa. That's right, I'm putting myself back in the seat but this time with a few extra rules. Namely map size limits and no extension rule. I'll also be setting up a few things before-hand so I don't have to rush around and get them done afterwards.

Also, here's an image from the alternate ending~

Th-Tha-Th-Tha-Th-That's All, Folks!

Finally this game is done~ And not a day too soon. Seriously, if it'd taken one extra day none of us would be getting that sweet little boost in MS that is granted to games this month.

All said and done, it was an interesting experience. I've learned a lot about handling a project and (not) meeting deadlines and, oh, so many other things. Teleports can break, code can be hard to figure out - you wouldn't believe how differently some people code things! - sudden map tree errors can have you in tears (seriously, last night, just before uploading, I had a map tree error occur. Luckily I'd been sharing with a tester at the time and that copy was still safe. It made me cry!), testing can take much longer than the 30 minutes you'd thought (try over 4 hours! Thank you so much for your help NewBlack!) and things can go terribly wrong with just one touch of code.

I don't know that I'll ever revisit a Halloween Mapping challenge, but if I do, it'll have stricter guidelines. I got a lot of good surprises from this project, a few bad ones and a lot of ... well, memories. I've picked up a bit from each person who added to the project, though. Effective usage of pictures, new ways to code and think, better organisational skills. So for all of that, and more, thank you.

Thank you alterego.
Thank you arcan.
Thank you chana.
Thank you Deckiller.
Thank you Demicrusaius.

You've all done so well and been so patient with me, putting up with my missed deadlines, computer/internet issues, lack of inspiration, last minute fixes and accidental hypage.

I hope you all feel proud to be a part of this project and have fun playing it.

Maps, Manors and Madness #2
A Progress Report

Submissions
All maps are now in! I've still a few of my own to finish, and have one or two that have been harder to join with the others (looking back, I really should have given more instructions when it came to doors. ^.^; )

I have had to edit a few maps - slightly - for story purposes. Speaking of, I was very surprised at how those maps with cutscenes fit so well together, story-wise. It made adding the story a lot easier, but I ended up having another set-back thanks to the last map I received which came with a very juicy story built in. This story also fits with the rest but I've had to do some quick thinking to match it all up. All told, the story should be interesting... :D

Release
Now, the release date will be off by a few days - I've had a few setbacks with my time thanks to the dreaded Real Life. Things like dog-sitting, persistent headaches and visitors have eaten it up like no-ones' business, so it may take a few more days to finish.

Then there'll be a few days for the beta testing. If all goes well, a day of fixing errors and finally, a release by weeks' end.

Your Help
To make the job a tad easier on me I've a few things I'd like to ask you all for. The first is patience. The rest are a bit more specific. Currently the project is in need of:
- A title screen: It should have 'The Here and Now of Yesterday' prominent, but also a small 'MaMaMa 2011' somewhere. Preferably with a manor of some sort, and rather dark, but it's up to whomever decides to make it.
- A title image for the Game Page - again with the title prominent and MaMaMa 2011 somewhere small.
- A picture with the credits included. This includes the list in the spoiler. If anyone can think of any credits I've left off, please mention it!

Of all the maps that were handed out, there are only a few more to come in. I'm proud to say that most of you have handed in their maps and considering the amount of signees we had to being with, that means we've got quite a few maps! There are a few late maps to still come, and a couple of people who dropped out, but congratulations to all of you who decided to stick with it!

All up - including the three that are currently missing - we've got 20 maps. That is just a phenomenal effort for an event like this! Great job guys and gals! ^.^

Release
For those of you wondering, the release date will probably be around Halloween. There's still a bit to do on the game side of things - basically the eventing for the plot, some maps that will join the others up and double-checking to make sure everything works. Most of the maps are already added to the project and sorting of resources have been done.

Before the release I may call on a few people to beta test. If you'd like to do so, let me know via the thread or this blog and I'll add your name to the beta list. That said, I think about three people should do and I'd probably choose at random so as to be fair. ^.^

Minigame Madness
For those that don't know, there's a small minigame running in the meantime. Check out the corresponding page and take a guess at who did which map. I'll be posting up more images at random later on, and some I've been holding on to, so don't think the newest will equal the newest maps. ^.^

~~~~~~~~~~
You've all done a great job and should pat yourselves (and each other!) on the back! Thanks to all who have submitted a map - you all rock!
And to those who submitted more than one map - you guys rock majorly! ^.^
