Sacred Reviews: Sawed

Intro

"Sawed" is a locked room game developed by Edgy_Games that draws inspiration from the Saw franchise, a factoid that's pretty obvious from the name alone. Unfortunately that inspiration seems to have been as tepid as day old coffee sitting in the sun on a nice summer day in July. In simpler terms this game feels uninspired and comes across as rather tedious and boring. Which isn't words you'd usually use to describe a life or death game where another character is apparently mocking your efforts to survive from the shadows, but "Sawed" somehow manages to make that process seem unimaginably tedious.

Story/Gameplay

You wake up in a small room and have a limited amount of time in order to escape. Unfortunately the limited number of objects in the room means escaping from the sealing room you start in is super easy. So much so that it barely counts as a minor inconvenience. In fact, if your captor had provided you with an oven, a packet of instant ramen, and a small pot you could probably take a break to eat a quick lunch and still have several minutes to search the entire starting room and find the keys you need to escape.

After this the timer just disappears from the game for a while, but does return for a short section near the end where your need to run to safety. Unfortunately the timer selected for the bomb is extremely generous. So much so that you can just leisurely stroll to safety while reading a book and doing a little bird watching at the threshold to the building.

To make matters worse the sections between the timers are arguably worse since the game doesn't punish the player for making bad decisions. As a result you can just brute force your way through all of the puzzles in this game in a couple of minutes.

Graphics

Considering the nature of the movies in the Saw franchis this game really would have benefited from some gorey animations showing Bill getting killed in various ways as you progressed through the game. At least if you made poor decisions over the course of a playthrough. Which will definitely happen considering the clues they give you for finding the innocent person in one challenge really aren't that helpful.

Conclusion

"Sawed" is one of those games that can be beaten quickly, but you'll probably wish you had just skipped over it in favor of something better. If your looking for a locked room game I'd suggest checking out "Mysterious Room Escape" by Okami_Amaterasu or "Escape From Classroom" by numbuh1 if you need to scratch that itch. And if your looking for something gorey that punishes you for bad decisions like your in a Saw movie I'd suggest taking a look at "El Dorado".
