In a kingdom covered in snow, in a kingdom where the snow never melts and never goes away, there lives a prince who keeps watch over his kingdom and resolves to maintain peace. When the prince learns that his family’s history isn’t as spotless as he had been told, he endeavors to fix what his family had done wrong and to ensure the continual peace of his kingdom. This will lead the prince to battling the phantoms that prowl the lands, to saving a princess, and to realizing the secrets of his family and his kingdom.

The entire game takes place in Sabine Kingdom and the island that it rests on. The island is constantly shrouded in snow, but for some reason, no one ever feels cold. Plants continue to grow despite the snow, so there is no danger of a food shortage. There has never been a need to question this, so the residents of Sabine Kingdom are blissfully unaware.

Though of course, our prince--Snowe--is not blissfully unaware any longer. A dream leads him to combing through his parents' library and learning that something is amiss. What is our prince to do except try and fix what he had found? He can't just sit back and pretend like he hadn't read about a girl being locked in a tall tower where she may one day die from flames that threaten to burn her. No, he can't do that at all.

Did you like SSP and wanted more? Do you like reading??

Because of reasons, I've finally uploaded the sequel web novel, Ephemeral Prince to itch.io as an EPUB and a PDF. So, if you wanted to ever read Ephemeral Prince on your phone and not connected to the internet, now you can!

I figured this warrented a blog post, so I hope those who liked the game and liked the sequel will enjoy Ephemeral Prince on the go.

Maybe one day I'll make a game again, but today is not that day! Enjoy some old ass writing because it's like 10 years old! (which means SSP is older ugh)

Haha ok nevermind I figured maybe you would still be hunting for any trace of reproducibility for this bug. If I ever find the courage I might try to load my save on another computer, beat the boss again and see if the bug has to do with the state of thte game itself or some occult combination of software elements. Anyway I've seen a fair share of strange bugs with VX so it may be the software. I won't bother you again with that one unless I get any clue of what might plausibly be happening.

Edit : By the way, I've finally seen the end. So cute it was worth it, and your drawings are really beautiful :)

Aww! Thank you Hasvers! So glad you finally got to complete it after the game tried to do you in. :) Hopefully one day I can figure out how to fix the crashing bugs. :\
Ronove, I've started the game and it's living up to the hype, wonderful game so far! Your art is amazing!

I am however encountering a major issue. I've just started Chapter 2 and as soon as I regain control of Snowe, no matter what happens, the game crashes with the "game.exe has encountered an error."

It happened a few times in the preceeding cave and also while talking to the ghost. It appears to happen anytime the 'enter' button is used frequently.

Help~ I've retried several times and unable to not crash. Tried in both full screen and smaller.

Thanks,
lr

As soon as chapter 2 starts, every time I try to pick up the book on the couch, the game crashes. Even if I ignore the book, it crashes soon anyway. Any idea how to fix it please?

Well, as I have said numerous times, there's literally nothing I can do. I can't figure out why it does that for some and not others (and I'm always trying to think of new things for my scripter to try but really, nothing's working). Have you tried updating your drivers and whatnot? Perhaps trying to play that part on another computer? And is it just when you pick up that book?

For as much buzz as this game gets, it only has approx 400 downloads?
I really love this game a LOT. It makes me feel warm, even when it's winter.

Adon237: I don't think that's counting who downloaded through my site before the link was up. I should ask my friend for the number sometime, though even though I'm really curious, it's also a bit "eek" worthy because even over 300 is "eek" worthy for me, haha, so any higher and it'll be like @___@.

I'm glad you hear you love the game! :) It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside!
Ok. I will try playing it on a different computer....I did check the drivers for updates. Oh well...

Again, I am really sorry it does that to you and if I can figure out how to fix it, you know I will and have a huge announcement for that. But right now, it is what it is.
No worries. I tried playing last night on a much newer PC and didn't have any issues (knock on wood). Maybe its VX?
Just finished it, despite all the random crashes here and there. It was a pretty neat game, good job :D
Downloading now. Will play tomorrow because I'm dead tired right now.

I just realized: is this game's title inspired by Chrono Cross ost track?

Oh go through a secret passage near the two tiles that are black (straight south of the left angel statue). You go down through the secret passage (pick up a new weapon for Hiante in the rubble) and try opening the door. A key will drop and go back to that key and you can proceed.
Really wonderful game. I wasn't sure right away, but seeing the custom portraits everyone had hooked me long enough to talk to everyone, and then I knew I had to keep going... and now I'm near the very end!

Love the art, writing is mostly very good; and story and characters are wonderful.
(Not to mention the music!)
I'll say more after I finish the game though xD

I'm posting because I also ran into rgss2 crashes which are quite troublesome...
Don't they usually give you a hint as to what's wrong!?

The first time I crashed was ... after going to the Eastern Tower and re-entering Sabine Forest. It kept happening when I got attacked usually after one or two encounters in the caves. This issue soon disappeared by the next chapter...

I think I got a crash once at a battle up you know where. In the castle probably... Only one time though...

EDIT : Btw those crashes happened just before the battle starts everytime. It would fade out and then the crash appears.

Then finally I encountered a game-halting consistant crash in the Western Tower during the cutscene up-top... soon as he says "Hmm... What's this?"
><

I discovered that this particular crash is related to the battle system as well... In particular, the abort battle call, used after that big battle.
It seems to make the game very unstable when that is called... I even tried inserting a save menu immediately after the battle and it crashed immediately...

Finding the source of these crashes are really ... gah!
I DID however discover, that I was able to usually* prevent this crash by hitting F12 at the title screen. This causes the game to restart once, and I suppose it makes it more stable somehow... This allowed me to get past that "What's this?" part (it crashed before getting the item message).

I've been using that trick from that point on, and have not encountered any more crashes so far *fingers crossed*

My guess, is that the crashes all are somehow related to the battle system...
The crash I was able to reproduce when opening the save menu immediately after that battle makes me think it might be similar to other people's crashes...

What made it crash in the cutscene? Well after the abort battle's instablity, I am guessing it's when you added an item to inventory.... probably. I still have the original save file, if you want to see if it reproduces for you...

(After beating the long battle, after the awesome cutscene, the moment before you receive the item)

The only other possibilty for my crashes I might think of, is running in Japanese Locale, and I installed the Japanese RTP originally.

Anyway, I just want to finish the game since I'm so close! :D
It's been a fun journey... well for the player anyway... ;D

XCaliber: Thanks for the little write up. I'll see if I can figure out something to check in the battle system, but I'm not sure if it's the battle system itself or merely the switch over to it. Again, thanks! Sorry that sometimes me giving players items sends the crashing haha. I mean it's really random who that happens to and where. :(

It also doesn't reproduce for me. Here: http://www.mediafire.com/?5es0w3orbsf7veo I got you past that part. What you missed is Snowe opening the floor up and the boss fell through. Everyone is like :O! and you're on your own to go back down. (Hint: pick up Relenia's weapon from the White Light switch, switch the light to Green to take you down to the opening.)

Hope it all goes well from here on out. Try seeing if you can play it on a better computer perhaps? I've heard that works to stop the crashing.
