In a kingdom covered in snow, in a kingdom where the snow never melts and never goes away, there lives a prince who keeps watch over his kingdom and resolves to maintain peace. When the prince learns that his family’s history isn’t as spotless as he had been told, he endeavors to fix what his family had done wrong and to ensure the continual peace of his kingdom. This will lead the prince to battling the phantoms that prowl the lands, to saving a princess, and to realizing the secrets of his family and his kingdom.

The entire game takes place in Sabine Kingdom and the island that it rests on. The island is constantly shrouded in snow, but for some reason, no one ever feels cold. Plants continue to grow despite the snow, so there is no danger of a food shortage. There has never been a need to question this, so the residents of Sabine Kingdom are blissfully unaware.

Though of course, our prince--Snowe--is not blissfully unaware any longer. A dream leads him to combing through his parents' library and learning that something is amiss. What is our prince to do except try and fix what he had found? He can't just sit back and pretend like he hadn't read about a girl being locked in a tall tower where she may one day die from flames that threaten to burn her. No, he can't do that at all.

Did you like SSP and wanted more? Do you like reading??

Because of reasons, I've finally uploaded the sequel web novel, Ephemeral Prince to itch.io as an EPUB and a PDF. So, if you wanted to ever read Ephemeral Prince on your phone and not connected to the internet, now you can!

I figured this warrented a blog post, so I hope those who liked the game and liked the sequel will enjoy Ephemeral Prince on the go.

Maybe one day I'll make a game again, but today is not that day! Enjoy some old ass writing because it's like 10 years old! (which means SSP is older ugh)

Please get someone to give the dialogue in this game an overhaul. It's not terrible, but it's off in places with odd grammar and it mars what would otherwise be a pretty solid game.
I'm near the beginning of the Western Tower.
My question is within the spoiler tags.
I'm aiming for the good ending. Where is the divergence point for the two endings?

@Aurora_Paradox: the divergence point is in the last place before the final boss. Make sure you see Astra's memory and talk to Erio before you fight the last boss. Simple as that. And if you get to the last place before you've done all that, you can leave the final place and get everything you missed too.

@Clyve: :\ It's not that bad, but I guess I'm just biased. I know some places are a bit hmm but I'm really not in the mood to go back through every single event now and fix it when I find it sounds good to me for the most part. If I have time, though (and likely I won't for a long time), I'll go through it, but at this present moment, the game's done.

I guess if your definition of what makes a "solid" game is perfect dialogue, then I guess I'll take that hit.
What is the answer to the wedding riddle in the Western Tower? I'm sure its simple but I can't make heads or tails of it.

@Aurora_Paradox:

The text says on the first plaque: "On her wedding night one cannot appear with no flowers in hand. The bars on a happy life will not lift unless one has those flowers. Where can they be?"

The second plaque gives you how to flip the switches (there are three switches; two with flowers, one with a lady): "A bridesmaid comes from the right; a groomsman comes from the left and the wife has her flowers." / "Now the bars have been lifted upon a life so happy by just hiding in the flowers."

The first to give her flowers were the bridesmaid from the RIGHT (so pull the rightmost switch in the room underneath a portrait of flowers), the second to give her flowers were the groomsman from the LEFT (so pull the leftmost switch in the room underneath a portrait of flowers). Then go back to the portrait with the lady and flip her switch as now she has both flowers in hand and can walk to a happy life.

I've been sort of uh... "sneaky" about how I approach the first few dungeons and ended up having to grind 2-3 levels for the boss I had to fight.

Kind of wondering if you had a list of average levels the testers went through each boss or something because the bosses are just kicking my ass and I'm really one of those people who hate grinding to get pass bosses and yet want to maintain a decent amount of items. More importantly, I'm also curious if I'm just not getting something or if the bosses really are just hard (Don't worry if they are! I enjoy hard games. There's just a difference between you simply aren't strong enough to end the battle and you're terrible at the battle system and need to learn a few tricks.)

So far, everyone's level 8 on the skeleton king person thing.

@Hale: Have you checked my Wordpress? For all the bosses I have a level that I THINK you should be at! For the Old, I have it that I was on level 7 when I fought him, so level 8 should be a good level for him!

http://starstealingprince.wordpress.com/guides/boss-guides/the-old/

Also, I balanced the bosses on the idea that you would have at least beaten each enemy encounter once, so if you're being sneaky and not fighting anything, that may be why you have to grind when you get to a boss! Not entirely sure on your play style, so that's all I can really say for that.

And if you do need to grind, you don't have to use up all your items if you want to grind in SSP. Chances are, the dungeon has a Healing Statue somewhere (definitely in earlier parts of the game; later, they get less frequent because of story reasons). So if you feel you need some more levels, find the Healing Statue and beat up enemies around it!

I also gotta tell you, don't worry about hoarding items (except for kickass tinctures and harsh tinctures cause those are kickass and I like hoarding those for the final boss). If you haven't used the Cornet or the Mask yet on bosses, start using them as they have unlimited uses. The game is designed so you USE your items and not hoard them. If you don't, that's your own folly. Which is why I overload you with items.
Aww item dependence so early on >_<;

Makes sense though, the only real threat is his physical attacks. Everything else kinda hurts but is easily manageable.

I did take a quick look at your word press but apparently the word guide isn't obvious enough for someone like me! xD; My bad.

Edit: Then again, the last time I didn't depend on item, my characters ended up learning the requisite buffs/debuffs by the time I needed to rely on them anyway. Somehow I don't think that'll be happening in this game. sounds fun <3
How am I supposed to get the Brown Cat Doll in Chapter 6? I missed it at the start of the game, and I've talked to everyone in town now with no luck. I'm pretty sure I can't progress without it.

@Einander: Didn't Snowe tell you talk to Charles? He should be in his room (he lives in the pub with his parents).
Ah, okay, I was missing one of the skeletons. Problem fixed!
I'm working my way through the nightmare dungeon. I'm stuck at the door with the crown riddle. I have the crown but I still can't get through. What am I missing?

Thank you for all your help so far Ronove.

EDIT: I do have one other question. Where are the final weapons for the characters located and can I still access them after the nightmare dungeon? Currently, I only have Astra's final weapon.

@Aurora_Paradox: If you have the crown (that you got and went up the elevator right?), you have to go to the room with the coffin and a statue of Snowe on the wall. There should also be a blue sparkly on the coffin where you can click and Snowe will climb up and put the crown on the king's head. Then the other door opens!

If I do another release of the game, I think I should try to clarify that a bit when you go to the door! It's a tad confusing now that I look at it again.

Edit: I hope you didn't save over your original slot, because there's no more backtracking once you've entered the dream dungeon. You can find the locations on my wordpress: http://starstealingprince.wordpress.com/guides/final-weapons/ . If you have saved over your original slot and all that, if you want, I can patch your save file for you so you have the weapons!

I do have another save file but I'd rather not use it because of how far I am in the nightmare dungeon. I've reached the Slaughter mini boss. This boss is one tough customer. In one case he took me out after the first turn. Still working on a viable strategy. I've tried smoke bombs and limiting his ability to concentrate. Somehow though he always finds a opening large enough to take me out.

EDIT: It took me at least 20 tries but I finally took out the Slaughter mini boss. I updated the save file to reflect this.

My saved file was uploaded to MediaFire

@Aurora_Paradox: Not sure why some people find him really hard and others that's not the case!
http://www.mediafire.com/?04810po9ip7ds7l
There's your wonderful weapons! I equipped Snowe with his. I hope you have a radiance cloak somewhere on another character cause that's a super good armor for Snowe btw. I would also mention if you have the red or green ribbons, one should go on Snowe to prevent silence (so he can have better stats as a result)!

Hope everything is smooth sailing from here! Good luck!

Thank you for patching my save file Ronove. I really appreciate it.

I think I may have sold my radiance cloaks already but I'm not certain. I only picked up the red ribbon during the game.

The Slaughter boss is a tough opponent because of it's ability to attack multiple times in one turn. I found that that you can blind him with one of erio's attack and stun him with black hole. Combine this with the scary mask and child's cornet and he is beatable. Using Stats raising items and skills is also a good idea. There is also a bit of luck involved. You have to ensure that the boss cannot concentrate during the fight.

I also used the Lullaby ability at least twice during the fight to recuperate. You can lower his stats while he is asleep as well.

I hope this strategy is helpful to anyone who is having difficulty with this battle.

Why did you sell the radiance cloaks? XD They have a super good attack that heals you and gets rid of the debuffs on you!

But I do like that strategy! Thanks for sharing it! :D
Now that I think about I believe I have one radiance cloaked equipped to Astra. Is the skill your referring to called Radiance and require 99% of the IP gauge to use?

Glad to hear you like the strategy. I came up with it through a fair amount of trial and error. I hope someone else finds it useful.

Yeah that one. If I were you, I'd put that on Snowe because he needs more help with his stats than Astra does! I'd also put the red ribbon on him as well so your healer is safe from the states (pretty sure the red ribbon does this; the green ribbon is better, but since you've already gone into the dream, you can't get it (a library helper would have told you where to find it and you would go find it back in the castle)).

Still wishing you luck against the final boss!
Wouldn't it be better to have a red ribbon on Relenia instead?
