In a kingdom covered in snow, in a kingdom where the snow never melts and never goes away, there lives a prince who keeps watch over his kingdom and resolves to maintain peace. When the prince learns that his family’s history isn’t as spotless as he had been told, he endeavors to fix what his family had done wrong and to ensure the continual peace of his kingdom. This will lead the prince to battling the phantoms that prowl the lands, to saving a princess, and to realizing the secrets of his family and his kingdom.

The entire game takes place in Sabine Kingdom and the island that it rests on. The island is constantly shrouded in snow, but for some reason, no one ever feels cold. Plants continue to grow despite the snow, so there is no danger of a food shortage. There has never been a need to question this, so the residents of Sabine Kingdom are blissfully unaware.

Though of course, our prince--Snowe--is not blissfully unaware any longer. A dream leads him to combing through his parents' library and learning that something is amiss. What is our prince to do except try and fix what he had found? He can't just sit back and pretend like he hadn't read about a girl being locked in a tall tower where she may one day die from flames that threaten to burn her. No, he can't do that at all.

Did you like SSP and wanted more? Do you like reading??

Because of reasons, I've finally uploaded the sequel web novel, Ephemeral Prince to itch.io as an EPUB and a PDF. So, if you wanted to ever read Ephemeral Prince on your phone and not connected to the internet, now you can!

I figured this warrented a blog post, so I hope those who liked the game and liked the sequel will enjoy Ephemeral Prince on the go.

Maybe one day I'll make a game again, but today is not that day! Enjoy some old ass writing because it's like 10 years old! (which means SSP is older ugh)

2 456 1 987 3 ... and it just occurred to me that the outside switches aren't even shown in the guide, hmm. << EDIT: It squishes my diagram together. ): Oh well.

Edit: Fixed my diagram, accidently wrote one switch group backwards.

Save file here > http://www.sendspace.com/file/zgueev

EDIT: Interestingly enough, I did see that 'something happened, but you don't know what'. And I think there was a flash. ... Maybe the Chimera does just hate me. ;_; Though my switch order is waaay off from the guide's. xD Oh and the bottom one says it's stuck too. I checked all 9 switches, they all claim to be stuck.

Oh the two on the far sides don't count in the puzzle.

I checked the switches (the in-game one that flips when you do it right) and yep, the one to make the boss weaker is flipped on. So you're on the easier one! Which isn't saying much if you're having trouble. You might want to go update everyone's equipment (like get Snowe a Magic Brigadine (I know it brings down his speed from Erio's Spare Suit, but defense is important!).

Don't forget to grab the two chests north of the steps on the first floor. The two switches on the far sides were to open a gate that blocked those off, fyi.

But yeah, you should be set. Now I'm going to see if I can beat the boss with your file.

Woooow how did... Lmao I have no idea how I got the switch puzzle right. Anyway I'll take your advice and change out some of my gear. And I saw those chests before I did the switches and I was like "omg how do I get those?!" xD Thanks for checking for me!

@Aurelia: Yeahh... not entirely sure how you got the puzzle right, but the game gave it to you anyway! o.o! And I did just try the boss with your level/equipment and the boss is beatable, it just takes very careful turns! Probably best to have up to date equipment though to be on the safe side.

In other news: Star Stealing Prince has a TVTropes now!

It's such a baby page at the moment though! :O!

Ohgod tvtropes is so dangerous, every time I go there I wikiwalk for hours *goes anyway*. Also, yeah, I'm working on re-updating and balancing everyone's equipment a little. Bought the brigadine for Snowe and swapped out Hiante's cozy mitts for magic gloves (I think I have those on everyone now lmao <<).

EDIT: Beat him! 8) On top of updating aforementioned equipment, I adopted a slightly more cautious strategy and it worked out. Thank you very much for your help! :3

Cautious strategies = good strategies!
TvTropes!! :D I'm glad someone already made it, I was planning to make one myself, but I'm awful at descriptions. I've just added a ton more trope examples, since I've done that for a lot of other gamepages around here. I have also added the page to the freeware and eastern RPG indexes, so hopefully you will see some more publicity!

Aww, thank you argh! Did you put the one about Lost Forever? Because the skill books aren't--those are the only thing recoverable (the game tells you if you forgot even just one that the ones you forgot can be found on the island after the floating island falls).

So true. I've had my ass kicked several times when biting more than I could chew.

I did indeed. Thanks for the information! I'm really glad you managed to dodge that issue. Missable items are a real pain, and many developers are absolutely merciless about it. :( So the only things that are really missable are the sword (which is really, really hard to miss) and the red ribbon (I still have no idea where that is...is it in a secret passage?).

By the way, is there any reason to hang on to the maiden gems? The maidens tell you to hold on to them, but I haven't found any use for them yet.

The red ribbon is found after doing the switch math puzzle in the airway which opens a stairway below that leads to the red ribbon. I couldn't make the skills missable because that would be far too mean of me!

I thought I took out the Maidens saying to hold on to them. I originally planned for something to be done with them, promptly forgot that plan, so I just let the players sell them for some cash if they needed some, haha.

Ah, darn. I was going to do that puzzle, but entered the exit instead...when I realized the corridor looked important, I tried to go back, but I think the teleport event was broken or something? Nothing happened when I entered the lowermost tile. Oh well, the green ribbon is better anyway.

Hmm... I'll have to recheck that. Hahahahaha, dummy Ronove. It's not set to playertouch. *facepalm*
Only a few more hours before this game is featured...
Can I wish you congrats first, Ron? ^^ Should push SSP's DLs pass the 1K mark now. :D

Question: Do only completed games get featured?
Are there any system requirements to play this? Because I tried several times and the game kept crashing randomly during teleports and battle starts.

Ooh! Featured game! That's so cool! And whoever made the front page graphic for it, it looks SO lovely! Thanks so much, guys! That's really swell!

@Yuna: I'm not someone to ask that, haha. Thank you for your kind words! :)

@Avee: Um, not any different than other games I think. It's crashing because RMVX I think gets a memory leak SOMEWHERE and Windows shuts that down. It commonly happens at battle starts and when opening the menu (though is it happening when you teleport to different maps? Like straight away?) I've been trying really hard to find the reason for this or some way to fix it, but I haven't been able to. Sometimes people get it to act better when playing it on a different computer or updated their drivers and whatnot.

Okay, just because that is an interesting question Avee, I asked Diedrupo to give me his specs because the game barely ever crashes on his computer (like it did once). He has Windows 7 (64 bit) and 6 gigs of memory.

I have Windows 7 (64 bit), 2 gig of memory and it happened once or twice and it's hard for me to replicate the issue any more.

If that's helpful at all or if you can tell me your specs and we can compare to others who have the problem, perhaps I can find a solution if that's a pattern?

If this helps for statistical purposes, I have Windows 7 on a pretty good laptop (i3, 4GB RAM) and the game crashed just once or twice (near the beginning).
Everytime I died I hit F12, maybe that helped too.
The memory leak might be the problem now that you mention it. I usually play on an older computer that's pretty full, and game crashes happen with other games too (Set Discrepancy for instance).
I'll just try on a better computer, I guess.
I just got the good ending, hooray! Very enjoyable. One thing in particular I really liked is how you made the main healer a male. Sexism in RPG archetypes is pretty ingrained, and while one does see a female fighter character occasionally, one virtually never sees a male healer. So yes. Congratulations for breaking tradition and being progressive and all that.
