Brand new demo as of 10/01/13, it's about time huh?

Introduction:

One thousand years ago, from the current date. Earth was a beautiful planet. Full of many desires and possibilities. What one could do, is only limited by their very own imagination. If you wanted to be an adventurer, so be it. If you wanted to have a quiet life on your own, you could do so without worry. A wonderful ability known as magic, was later discovered. The people of earth were fascinated by this strange, yet appealing power they created and were rapidly developing it to make it better and better. Sadly though, not every person is that of a pure heart. For every person that used magic for good, there was twice as many that used it for unjust reasons. Earth was not the only world in existence, there was a demon world as well. Over in the demon world they to had there own magic, but for what ever reason the magic on earth was much stronger and being demons, most of them craved more destructive power then they already have.

There was a Demon from the other world dubbed the name "The Great Evil". A power hungry monster with the thirst to crush anyone and anything in his path. Oddly enough, this demon wasn't always like that. Magic is a wonder power yes, but it is an amplifier for a destructive nature. Meaning, it can turn the more relaxed beings into pure terror. Magic did indeed corrupt this once gentle demon and it was on a seemingly unstoppable rampage.

As hope looked to be just a faded dream, a group of heroes stepped up to challenge the great evil. Of course, the great evil jumped at the chance to obtain more power. A raging battle ensued with each side striking with near fatal blows at every second. Eventually, with all their might. The heroes were able to defeat the great evil, but they did not kill it and there was a reason for that. The heroes used their unique powers to create four elemental crystals, each crystal was given a guardian. With that being said, the only way a being can come from one world to another would be to destroy the crystals. So, the heroes sent him back to the demon world, so that the great evil can forever wonder what if. However, right before the great evil was vanished back to its home world. It planted two evil seeds. Those seeds, at the right moment will grow and try once again to make his evil dream a reality once more.

Kinda sad news... but maybe not?

I've decided long and hard to start working on a new game in RMVXace. I'm not stopping production on this game, but it will certainly slow down more. I even played with the idea of TRYING to port it over to VXace. I'm not quite sure yet 100% what I'm doing, but I wanted to let you all know.

Bug testing...commence!

1. In the intro, exists is spelled wrong.

2. In the intro, there is a line. There are those who choose to live a life or crime. Shouldn't or be of?

3. Intro yet again: Magic, a power once used for justice. Became apart of the evil power. For one, there should be a comma at the end of justice, and then a lowercase b in became...as well as a period at the end of power. (Note, period may not of been visible to the background)

4. Bite bugs attack constantly during battles when the actual game starts, the enemy gets nonstop hits on you, leaving the bar barely able to fill.

5. In the special menu, if you clicked a greyed out ability, it says this feature has yet to be un locked. It
should be unlocked.

6. No level up messages are displayed when you level up.

7. I went through the cave, and exited to another part that is apparently a dead end. Theres a moogle here if that helps.

Comments so far about the game itself: The dialog could use some work, as well as character build up. For instance, after the tutorial, why does he start in the forest, rather than in town, in order to build up a relationship between him and his mom? This is just the nitpicking side of me mostly, you could have your reasons.

Edit: Bite bugs at there current speed seem to ruin the game. I constantly miss, when I get an attack after there 30 hit barrage on me before I even get a turn.

Edit 2: Opened this up in rpg maker to see exactly why they kept killing me. Most of your monsters in that forest had like 16 agi....bite bug had 600. Add that on to the fact you you an active turn based system...there's no way i'm living against that at lvl 1...with a single party member. I don't know the intended number, but I set it at 20 agi for myself. I won't touch anything else unless I run into something else that's game breaking.

Edit 3; I don't want to sound critical, but did you actually test this yourself? The battles were simple enough after I edited bite bugs, but I find myself getting poisoned constantly, and theres not really enough antidotes scattered about. In fact, there should be alot more to explore, as the first dungeon is linear. Linear is fine for a first dungeon, but it simply feels too linear...and theres no real treasure scattered about, except for 2 obvious chests. The key hammer item should of been gotten differently as well, not just hidden discretly near a wall in my way...as it took me 2 seconds to find it.
Most issues have been fixed that you mentioned. About the bite bug one, I changed the AGI for testing reasons and forgot to change it back (the demo has been taken down, should be back up soon.) The special menu issue, Im playing though it to see what your talking about. Perhaps I had a switch error. Its meant to be easy to figure out early on, but I will fix the poison issue. Thanks for the feedback, please keep it coming.

By the way, how far did you get? You dont get to unlock anything from the special menu till a little bit later.

@ Everyone who reads this. Once I re upload the demo, it will only be available to beta testers. If you would like to be one, ask me. I currently need three or four. Thanks.
I think ya misinterpreted the special menu bug. I selected a greyed out ability to see what happened, and it said it has yet to be un locked. That's fine, but un locked should be unlocked. It's just a typo bug.

As for how far I got, I got to the end of the forest (the map right after you pass through the cave, with a moogle on it), but it was just an empty grotto, so I couldn't proceed.
You got to make contact with one of the trees to pick the berries, the tree on the top right.
Ahh got it. I thought it was the tree nearest to the moogle, and I thought that pink thing near it was berries. Mayby ya should place the moogle inside the cave, just before you exit, and stick an autorun event for when ya exit the cave. I don't think many people will think to check that tree (i kept trying to get something to happen at the other tree lol).

Edit: 1. I just got healed by jesse during the boss fight, but now my jeremy is oddly positioned.

2. After the battle, jesse say hes a bodygaurd, It should be bodyguard

3. In the house, I noticed you count the left and right part of the different shelves as part of the same area. Keep in mind each side has different drawers, so you could put different treasuress on the left and right side. I feel this game needs more stuff to search in general as well. Plants, shelves with dishes, it's all free game to hide treasures.

4. When I search an area: it says: I searched the area and found?, this is just preferance, but I think it'd look better as: I searched the area and found..., with those 3 dots instead of a ?.

5. I just opened my menu at jeremies moms house..and a guy named david is magically in my party. I've not spoke with his mom yet, and I've not yet met this david character. I should call the guards on this stalker...

Edit on bug 5: It seems the game magically puts him in my party if i examine the red table near jeromies mom. It actually took me a minute for me to figure out this bug. Who knew examining a spot where seemingly nothing happens could break the game.

6. When talking to mog, infrom should be inform.

This is just my opinion, but the town feels...exceptionally empty. The maps are big, with not much filling them. Even the inn only had a single bed, which it's the only inn in the whole town. Theres also not enough npcs scattered about, to give the feel of an expanding world, with lots going on in it. Instead it feels as if the world revolves around the hero. I can't but notice that all your house maps are copy/pasted as well. It's not hard to notice.

7. The trees are poorly made. You should be able to go behind them sooner than it lets you. It appears I can't really walk behind house roofs either.

Comment: Ed said he was too busy to talk to me...but he didn't really look busy. Mayby make it so hes in an important conversation with someone

8. Found a desert area while looking for the castle, and it had a bridge I couldn't walk across.

Comment: The guards let me waltz right in the castle. Shouldn't they at least stop me and ask what business I have here?

9. I just searched a shelf in the room with 9 shelves in the castle, and it acted as if I had already searched there, when I hadn't.

Comment: Theres too many searches that yield nothing. I search everything, and I feel like I wasted a bunch of time when it's yielding very little reward. I've searched like 15 shelves in this castle, and only one contained anything. Even if they don't have items, how about adding some books that detail the background of the game.

9: In the jail, I talk to a guard, and it's spelt gaurd. At least are not spaced either. There is also a passability error down here. Basically, theres a spot I should be able to walk, but can't. Then again theres alot of these in this game. Actually, the misspelling of guard seems to apply to them all.

10. I feel as though I'll regret it, but I helped the prisoner escape. However, even though the door is open when I go back down there, I cannot walk inside the cell.

Im taking a break, but it's an alright game so far. You still have a ways to go to develop your skills, but we all have to start somewhere. Feel free to use the suggestions I gave to help improve the game.
@ 1. Its just the way the battle formation is set up.
@ 2. lol, i hope you realize there will probably be a lot of those LITTLE errors. Don't get mad lol haha.
@ 3. It was suggested to me that I not have two separate searches. I personally feel it would make it take an unnecessary amount of time.
@ 4. Nice suggestion, but I like the way I have it. Thank you though.
@ 5. Haha, I had that table there to turn a switch on to test something and forgot to turn it off. Its fixed now though.

@ 8. Thats because you can go in the desert, but you dont have to go there till later. Thats why it wont let you proceed yet.

As for the pass by error. I did that so i didnt have to make multiple events..lol i know, the lazy way to do it.

I promise you, the game is good. Its just that it seems to have a bunch of tiny errors.

Not sure if I'm doing something wrong or just missed something. I'm at the part where they all camp and rob tells how him and david met - theres a scream and rob goes to check it out - I can't find anything or what to do ?? Any help ??
downloaded this earlier then saved be for i left the game looks like even though i saved my progress the game its self will not let u continue if u exit the game it like all the save files get deleted or something like that
When I look at the images for the game - most of them don't look like the game I'm playing, or I haven't got that far yet ??
you have not got that far i got to the desert before i quite but i have to restart since i cant continue from where i saved

I decided to give this demo a try. I have played about 30 min of the game. A few observations so far:
- there a few misspelled words (examples to instead of too, momment) and grammar could be improved in the writing
- in the intro the skills that are supposed to affect ALL only affect the party member or enemy chosen.

I found a bug (don't know if it's RTP related or not) after the third moggle, when you walk south into a tree to change to the next screen, which is indoors. There, the sprite of the character I was controlling is nowhere to be seen. With this issue, I don't know if I'll be able to play the game any further. Hopefully, you can figure out what's going on.

Not to mention that you can move on to the next screen without getting the berries from the tree. For that I would guess you would have to set up an event that reminds the player to get the berries and prevents them from moving to the next screen until then.

I fixed the issues, the tree one where you teleport to a new screen was an old idea i was toying with and forgot to remove.
