Valor Emblem is a Fire Emblem inspired Tactical RPG created in Sim RPGMaker95. Production began in late 2009 and the goal is an early-2018 completion.

Story
In the army of the Dual Empire, disobeying a commanding officer in the field of battle is a crime punishable by death.
Jareth Coustal's military career had come to an end before it even began when he opposed his superior's orders during a raid. Locked up and awaiting sentence, his best friend sacrificed his own career to break him out of prison. With no plan, no destination, no allies, and very little money, they fled the empire as fugitives and prayed for good fortune to see them away.
But through a chance encounter, goals and destinies are altered, and Jareth is positioned to become a pivotal figure in the history of the world.

Yeesh, the last one is from 2015. Granted, it's the very last day of 2015, but it's still over a year and a half old. Poor Stu must be feeling the stage anxiety hard.

So here's an entire map that takes place sort of mid-late game.

Anybody whose ever played any Fire Emblem is familiar with the Seize Castle objective. That's the idea here, with the castle being in the top left, guarded by a Dragon Knight boss.

You'll notice that there are two routes. The one on the left with a narrow bridge, and the one on the right with a big stack of axe knights (inside the red square). They're not just regular axe knights, though. These guys are called the Black Rhino Knights. Terrifying.
Every so often, you'll come across a bunch of enemies that go beyond the regular "Empire _____" mooks. They'll have names, a little narrative behind them, some kind of gimmick (theirs is extremely high Power with class mobility), and you'll only fight them once because, after that, they'll be dead

If you choose not to slug it out with the Bhack Rhino Knights, there's the western alternative of crossing the bridge. But as you near it, that asshole Armor Knight (circled in red) will step onto the fortress, holding it while his bow knight pals pelt you at range. If you bring in fliers to help buttress your frontal assault, the archmage will throw Excaliburs at them (anti-air magic).
I like devising evil stuff like that.

On the bright side, see those wyvern knights above the Black Rhino Knights? Because of story reasons, they'll leave the map after a few turns, long before you'll ever be in range of them. Hurray! Doesn't mean you won't fight them later though...

<_<
>_>
If you want a protip on how to easily squash the BRK, open the spoiler <_<;
Their hit rate is 99. Karin, my Myrmidon, has 99 Evade. It's not physically possible for them to hit her.

And on one last note, this battle is actually on a split-path route. 50% of players won't see it

Holy damn, but I will play the bajeezus out of this when it's finished. This looks utterly magnificent.
I really want to play this after seeing the "prebattle info".
Yeah!!!
I could never get srpg maker to work...
Look forward to this game!
2 posts and I'm in the Buzzing category. Sure doesn't take much :o
So, uh, how's progress on this going?

I really wants me some fan-made fire emblem.
Yep, still going.
Not to worry. There's only one way this will become vaporware, and I don't want to mention it in case I jinx myself.

I might've been optimistic with a mid-2012 goal though. A lot of people are getting on my case to do some time-wasting extracurricular activities, and I don't have enough clout to tell them to shove it.
any demo or full release? i loved FE and will love urs :D
Dyhalto, if you're still following this, a friend and I have been thinking about doing a very story-centric FE hack. The problem is: we're both writers. Neither of us can rom hack.

Would you recommend SimRPGMaker95 as a good alternative?
hmmm... yes and no. It's very simple to make a game in Sim RPGMaker95. If you just want to get it out there, this maker is a good vehicle.
But if it's some kind of magnum opus you have in mind, the limitations will probably irk you. You'll be better off using a more modern engine and recruiting someone who can program a tactical system (or teaching yourselves to).

It depends on how much effort you're willing to put into it.
I think this is probably going to be a game-as-a-vehicle-for-the-plot kinda situation. Anything that lets us worry about less of the raw programming and more of the script is a godsend.

We do have someone who can program on our side, but he hasn't worked with FE hacks before. Any pre-existing resources we can find will make his job that much easier.

(By the way, thank you so much for answering my questions. This is the first time I've ever worked on a full-fledged game from the design end, and it is a little daunting.)
holy crap, didnt know srpg maker was capable of this. subbed.

Well it does look awesome but the fact that the last activity (other than you) was over a year ago does not bode well.

Regardless I've subbed as well
Well he's still an active member so maybe he'll post whatever he came up with some day.

Yeah if the Author could either cancel this project or assure people he's still working on it he'd probably get alot more subs because seriously the game looks amazing so far.

Oh the other hand I wish a project wouldn't say "Updated X Time/day" based on anyone posting it should be limited to the creator posting something.
Cancelling a game would get more subs? Everybody should cancel their games haha
No I meant if he made a blog post or just said like his yes I know its been over a year since i mentioned anything about this game just wanted to let you know what I've done...or hey sorry I was on the moon, back now gonna get lotsa of stuff done...or if he has stopped working on the game please mark it as cancelled.
Yeah, I've kind of been bad. I should be making updates more regularly. Like, once a year at the least :p
Last year when my old comp died I lost a lot of momentum so it's been slow coming. It's still coming though. I'm currently tied up with an obstacle/milestone, and when I bust through it, I'll post a blog letting everybody know whats what.

ITS ALIVE!!!!!

Hey cool to see your still trucking along...might I suggest a blog post even if its it's just Hi, I'm not dead and neither is this game.

Also if there's any updates I would love to hear about it...even if its just a new attack animation or sprite or something, hell even a new screenshot or two would be awesome
Ahahahahaha yeeeeees.

Rise, ancient game! Rise from the cold sleep of death!

(but seriously, I am super happy to see this is still ongoing.)
It looks great Dyhalto, thank you for your work.

You've said you are a writer, so I will assume no, but if you want some help writing support conversations (I imagine you have your story the way you like it by now) I'd love to contribute. I played FE7 & 8 constantly, so I have a firm understanding of the style. If not, no hard feelings =)
