Shouldn't DEF increase when turned to stone? :P

Good point.
It would make sense in both cases I'd say, I think if you have a hammer wielding user or perhaps earth spells, being Petrified would make it easier to crush and crack them apart.
And THAT'S what I was going for! ... But now that it's been brought to my attention, I think I'm actually going to transfer the "decreases DEF" part to the Stop ailment and simply have Petrification prevent movement.

Wouldn't someone be just as susceptible to a hammer if they were flesh? Or even more so really.
It would be neat if a spell that stops an enemy also increases their defense. Like a trade off. But like Koopa said, either way works.
How about "Turns an enemy into brittle stone, lowering their DEF"?

In one of my games I made a "frozen" status, when a "frozen" character is physically hit it shatters, but that's a drag to do in earlier RPG Makers.

Ideally being turned to stone would increase physical defense with a chance of being shattered and lower defense against some spells (like lightning), but that's pretty much impossible in rm2k.

That makes a lot of sense!

With 2k3, you can set a skill to reduce resistance to a certain element (which you could single out to certain spells) while also inflicting a status that doubles your defense stat (this last part is only possible through 2k3's engine, though). You could then make a new spell called "Shatter" that effects all stone monsters or monsters turned into stone that is an auto-death spell. It'd be a one-two punch, but very much doable.

Yeah, I know about that, the game where I made a "frozen" status that shatters was on 2k3.
What you mentioned is doable (FF6 insta-death :P ), but quite different from what I said.

Actually I goofed. You can't actually increase the likelihood of getting hit by a status effect, namely death, solely because you're inflicted with another status effect. The most you can do is decrease the resistance to a spell that inflicts 9999 damage and set the element of that spell to something that essentially has their values set to C (or wherever you start) to 0% and the next value up at 100+.

But you can make the stone spell lower defense against the "shatter" element and make the shatter spell deal huge damage to enemies weak against it.

Or you can make the "stone spell" a switch wich makes enemies transform into a "statue" version of themselves with more defense but vulnerability against the "shatter" insta-death condition.

Man, the amount of workarounds we go through to make things work in 2k2/3 :P
I oftentimes wish the older makers had the same options available to it in regards to battle/equipment skills and effects that VX/ACE does. Oh well! I do enjoy making the best out of the basic systems, though, without any fancy switch/event work.

Stop and Petrification have also switched effects! Petrification turns a target to stone and stops their movement for a lengthy amount of time, while the "Stop" ailment halts an enemy's movements AND lowers their defenses (due to simply being unable to move and defend themselves).
