Tramian, the capital of the kingdom of Dermod, is in an uproar.
Darian Ragnall, the royal prince of Dermod, is to be engaged to one of the princesses of the nation of Galiena, and the city is busy celebrating.

While on the streets the mood is cheery, in the castle it's another matter entirely. Tension and irritation float in the air and everyone is on guard. Dark rumours are flying around that there is treachery afoot and the royal family is in danger.

Meanwhile, the bride-to-be is on her way to Dermod from her home in countryside. Lorelai Jarvis, princess of the mountain nation of Galiena, has been living in a small house far from the capital for a long time. She seems neither happy nor sad over her fate; she merely gathers what few belongings she has and leaves with her only maid, Marian, to her new home.

The Royal Knights of Dermod escort them to the capital, but trouble starts soon for Lorelai, right there on the road, and never stops. Lorelai is forced to keep a keen eye on her surroundings to survive the intrigue going on at the castle and try and solve the growing mystery surrounding prince Darian and the royal family.

Demo download ready! Also status report.

Demo has been approved, so play and review! (Pleeease!)

Some notes on it:
-You can skip text with the Shift key, so be careful when running around (you may accidentally skip incoming text).
-The demo is intentiaonally easy combat-wise, as the gameplay features were not fully implemented by the time we made it, so you may feel combat is a bit wobbly. I apologize.
-If you're not too sure of how strategy combat works, read the combat manual when prompted.
-The demo only holds the prologue, which should take you about 30 minutes/an hour depending on reading speed.

The idea is to release the full game next. Event-wise there will be about 4 chapters (excluding the prologue). First chapter is mostly done (event wise) and the second chapter (which came out quite a bit longer than chapter 1) is midway through. I'm trying to swim my way out from a bog of writer's block (more like writer's confusion and sheer BLAH) but I'm winning inch by inch, so I expect considerable progress when I clear the scene I am currently working on.

Not much else to report. Hope you guys enjoy the demo!

The plot sounds interesting, subscribed.
Looks good. You've got some typos already, though. :p

Darian Ragnall's bio has "inetions" instead of "intentions."

Derp, I haven't looked at those bios in months. Once they were done I kinda refused to look again XD
Had to subscribe to this after playing through the demo. I thought everything about it was captivating and I just can not wait for updates.

P.S. Liam is adorable!

Oh, OK. I'll play it once it's approved!
Wait,it has tactical battle system, right?then that is the only reason I need to play this game.I love those systems:D& subscribed!

Edit:-So great,I loved the story of your other game too & this one is even more lovely considering the tactical battle system. The mapping is also nice plus there are a lot of findable items too.4.5/5 coz this is too short thats the only bad thing about this.

Hah, you'll eat your words XD The other chapters are now running too dang long. I'm having to make "sidequest breaks" to make the plot density lower.

I apologize for the blandness of the battles in the demo. Databaseing and balancing was my lowest priority so far (meaning I have more trouble setting to work on writing and eventing, databaseing is just less interesting but not as troublesome as writers block, or writers tangle, or writer's "omg wtf, where am I, where was I going?!"). The demo's combat will probably be heavily revised in the final release, overall I didn't want to bog down gameplay as being too hard on the demo (I will openly admit I go more for showcasing the story u.u) The idea is that since combats are limited (no repeatable fights) each will be challenging (that's the idea, I will try, and then I will be flamed for being unfair and cheap. I see hellish balancing issues ahead...XD)

Anyway, thanks for the praise, and hope you like the finished game when it's out >3

If balancing is too hard, I suggest simply removing levels (if you have them; I've downloaded the demo but haven't played it yet). Have stats be, well, static, except for treasure which you the game designer can dole out as you please (and thus know what the player has). Balance battles to require very little item use, so that not-so-great or anti-sidequest players can lean on them in a crunch.

Actually, we did work around that somewhat by by making levels a very minor bonus (max level is around 10, and only Lorelai is in every fight, the rest of the party differs quite a bit from chapter to chapter). Levels only net a very slight stat increase and MAYBE a skill at some point (nothing vital, probably just a bonus).
The idea was to have titles and equipment (rare) do the real of stat variation, but that's yet to be implemented.
By balancing I meant that the IDEA is to have combat be challenging to make up for the lack of TIMES it pops up. To have every battle be its own boss, so to speak. The demo is not there yet XD. I simply meant to say that balancing challenging but not going into CHEAP is going to be tricky (I admit fiddling with number isn't what I'm best at, which is why I'm having a friend help me with most of it). The demo was not really designed to be challenging yet.

But thanks for the input anyway, will keep it in mind :3
I just finished the demo.

It was great fun, the story is unique and interesting, and I am VERY much looking forward to how it will go for the young queen.

About the combat, I would like to mention, that you should not be able to attack through walls.

In the Bandit-cave, one of the bandits was throwing daggers through walls, and another could use magic through the walls.

I think all attacks should be confined to line of sight.

@Nein: Glad you enjoyed it!
The attack through walls thing: it's something that was already brought up (in another forum), the problem lies with the fact that it's a script that I didn't do myself, and my scripting knowledge is 0. I have absolutely no idea if configuring attacks to be unable to cross walls is doable or impossible OTL. I'll try to look into it, but I really can't say if I'll be able to change it.

You might change to someone else's script that isn't broken, then.
Hi! I just played the demo, and I really enjoyed it. :3 Excellent writing (I REALLY liked the dialogue), interesting plot, and I really liked the battle system a lot - reminded me a little of FFTA. Can't wait to play more of it in the future. (:

Glad you liked it, Aurelia! I'm especially pleased you liked the dialog, it's what I try the most at ; ;

@Clyve: If i could, I would happily do so. I can't therefore I don't. If a skilled scripters wants to help me with it, I'll welcome him/her with open arms.
So I tried the demo out today and rather enjoyed it. You did a great job with it and, well, me likey~
