Legionwood 2 is finally on sale!

The day everyone a small group of hardcore fans has been waiting for is here: after almost four years of development, the full version of Legionwood 2 has finally been released. As of this very moment, the game is available to purchase from the Dark Gaia Studios website in all of its indie, SNES-style Role Playing Game glory.

As I’ve posted before, the game retails for $5.99 USD (even though I live in Australia it’s so much easier to handle online payments in American dollars) and you can pay for your copy via Paypal, credit card or wire transfer – it’s all handled securely through the game’s distributor. All purchased copies of Legionwood 2 are completely DRM-free and can be backed up on an external drive or transferred to other PCs with ease.

I’m also working on getting the game available through Desura and its associated portals. The Desura edition of Legionwood 2 is currently being evaluated and should be online within the next two weeks. By the end of March I’ll also hopefully have the game out on some of the larger RPG Maker portals such as Amaranth Games and RPG Maker Web as well.

I first started working on Legionwood 2 back in 2010 right after Legionwood 1’s release. After countless betas and even a complete rewrite in a new engine, I’m so excited that the game is finally complete and ready to be devoured by masses of hungry fans. It’s been an awesome ride working on this game and engaging with all the people who tested its various beta builds – without your feedback, it definitely wouldn’t be as good as it is today. I really hope that you enjoy Legionwood 2 and its epic continuation of the Legionwood canon.

You can start your adventure by purchasing the game or downloading the free demo here. Happy adventuring!

Thx for the awesone game by the way Dark gaia, i loved legionwood(1)too =D
Yeah, that's pretty much it. Just try pulling the levers in different combinations until you get it right. It's basically just a trial and error puzzle.
Hmm, sounds like the event flags are triggering in the wrong order. It's an easy fix -- thanks for reporting it! I'll get to it right as soon as I'm done with the Legionwood 1 expansion pack I'm working on, when I resume Legionwood 2.
Minor Update:

Hey everyone. In preparation for the full game's release next week, I've made the current demo unavailable for download. This demo was derived from a slightly older test build of the game and will soon be replaced with a demo more representative of the final product.

This new demo should be available some time next week and will allow you to play Legionwood 2 for one hour for free. You'll be able to purchase a key for the full version of the game right from inside the demo.

Happy adventuring!
That looks like a good time to resume playing this game, when it's released that is.
I agree! I'm looking forward to seeing which of the endings people discover first ;)
Congratulations - Will we be able to use our save files from the previous beta - thanks
I don't see any reason why they wouldn't work, but you really would be better off starting a new game. The whole battle system has changed, and I'm not sure how old saves will cope with that. Try it at your own risk!
When you enter the Forum during the intro, the game tells you to save. However, you cannot save at all.

The intro is also way harder than before. I've had five or so game overs and resets because a character fell twice, so far. The boss can two shot my characters (especially felix since he has 100 HP and she usually deals more than 50 damage) and she sometimes gains two turns in a row as well as being able to score a critical hit and that way one-shot a character. Am I missing something?
Thanks will start a new game as suggested and I see the game is available on Aldorlea site - just got an e-mail from them- great news
Hmm, I was sure I could save when I was in the Forum. I've got a test save that was made right there, and the settings for that map were not changed during testing.

And yes, the game is now significantly harder (this was to combat the fact that it got incredibly easy in the endgame in the betas), though I didn't have as many problems as you during the intro. Looks like you're just getting bad luck -- though she isn't supposed to get two turns. The intro has suffered the most from the difficulty increase as your party's HP is so low, and it actually gets a little easier as the game goes on. I liked it because it reminded me of low-level Dungeons and Dragons based RPGs -- in games like Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights, I've died like 20+ times at first level ;)

I might have to see if I can tone that down a little, though nobody during testing raised it as an issue. The problem is that if I release a patch, everybody will be affected, even the people who are comfortable with the current difficulty. If enough people say it's a problem for them, I will put something together, so let me know if anyone else has issues.

EDIT: I have solved the saving problem! Run the game in Administrator Mode. It seems the fact that it installs into the Program Files actually prevents it from writing saves! I'll have to change to a different default directory from now on.
Update:

It's recently been brought to our attention that installing Legionwood 2 into the Program Files may prevent it from being able to write saves on some systems -- namely those running Windows Vista/7 with User Account Control turned on.

There is a simple fix for this: you can either install Legionwood 2 into a different directory (C/Games/Legionwood 2 works well) or simply run Legionwood 2 in Administrator Mode. You can do this by right-clicking on your game shortcut, selecting Properties, and then ticking the "Run in Administrator Mode" box under the Compatibility tab.
I remember the difficulty on Legionwood 1 being a bit unforgiving if you distributed your AP points poorly. I haven't bought Legionwood 2 yet but it sounds like you increased the difficulty a fair amount from the early betas.

I do have two questions. First off, How will you distribute patches to those who have purchased the game? Second, would you say that Legionwood 2 is more difficult than Legionwood 1?

EDIT: Regarding the difficulty warning. When you say Final Fantasy 3 are referring to Final Fantasy VI? I know that Final Fantasy VI was released as Final Fantasy 3 on Super Nintendo.
I Bought the game, and I'm really enjoying it, but I gotta say that the combat is a tad too unforgiving, especially in the beginning. I had to essentially save spam and pray that a battle would go well to get through in the first gauntlet of battles. I'm pretty experienced with rpgs, but there have been a few battles here, specifically boss fights, where I'll get unlucky and just totally get wiped without a chance. It seems to me like some rebalancing is in order, or even having a difficulty mode for people who don't quite want things quite as hard might work. Also, super small gripe (really kinda small, but it stuck out to me), but it seems to take forever to rest at an in. I clocked it at 13 seconds, and I was getting bored waiting to finally be in control again. I might suggest cutting that down to half that or so.

That aside, this is a damned beautiful game, and the story is wonderfully crafted. I'm looking forward to getting to the end of the game.
Tobash, I'm glad you're liking it! The difficulty was an intentional design choice. The game is designed so that you need to fine tune your builds and strategies to succeed. It's kind of like a cross between the earlier Final Fantasies and a Dungeons & Dragons based RPG (those games are notorious for their difficulty in the earlier levels, where an unlucky dice roll can mess up your day). That said, I agree that perhaps the early stages are too difficult. I've since updated the game so that the earlier portions are easier. Everything from Elder Forest onwards is unchanged, though.

If you'd like to get this changed version, your download link should be active for 60 days after your purchase and it will now link to the updated game.

Also, yes -- the inn rests are a little too long. This was because the inn music itself runs for so long. I had to extend the "black screen" during resting to match the music, otherwise it would still be playing while you're walking around.

EDIT: To answer Aurora's questions (which for some reason I hadn't noticed earlier):

1. Patches will be uploaded at the official website and will be free to download. Thus, anybody can download them, but obviously you'll need to actually have the game to be able to use them.

2. I would say Legionwood 2 is slightly harder than the first game, in that the exploits you could use on the bosses no longer work. However, it's mostly pretty much the same -- if you build your characters wrong (which is harder to do than in Legionwood 1 due to the class system) the game will be hard. There are some safeguards in place to prevent unluckly, unfair party wipes though, such as if a boss uses a Target All attack twice in a row -- if your HP is below a certain threshold, the second attack will have no effect.

3. I mean Final Fantasy III for the NES and Nintendo DS. It is notoriously difficult. It's not uncommon for your party to get wiped out in the space of the few rounds due to pure bad luck.
I understand this game is supposed to be fairly difficult but the opening battles are just ridiculous, when I get the the building, the spiders I have to fight are just insane, they hit really hard, are really fast and my attacks miss half the time, and there's nothing I can do to make it easier cos I have not been given any opportunity to train up so far, it took me about 20 tries to finally beat those bastards and even when I did one of my characters was already dead and I couldn't revive them cos I'd already used the angel tear I had earlier which means I had pretty much no chance against the boss so I guess I'm gonna have to restart the game and try to be more careful with my supplies this time, the first legionwood game was hard but at least it let you train up from the very beginning, this game is not so forgiving.
I don't understand why people are having so much trouble with the intro. All of the testers said it was just fine. I've even toned it down in subsequent releases -- if I reduce the Attack stat on the enemies even more, their attacks will have no effect.

As long as you make good use of Lionel's First Aid skill and the provided Peptides, you should be able to stay safe throughout the intro. The spiders are supposed to be a dangerous, optional encounter. If you're finding them too hard, just reply "No" when Felix asks you if you want to save your friends, and you won't have to fight them.
okay I managed to get past the intro , didn't realise I could scroll down the menu further to use items.
Ah, that might be something I should work on in the future. I few people have had that problem now.
Other than the absurdly difficult intro (I played it before it was toned down) the game seems actually a bit easier than before. Well, easier than the versions which didn't have a huge bug you could exploit that is. I recall in each dungeon getting occasional character KOs during random battles before. Now that happens less than once per dungeon.

Enemies seem to be more sturdy, but also deal less damage than before. The status increasing rune crafts also doesn't seem available in stores yet. These changes makes classes more "pick what you like and play" and less of a "min/max the crap out of them" deal. At least so far. I'll see what happens when more options becomes available.
