Discuss Exile's Journey over on Discord!

Exile’s Journey is a dark fantasy RPG. The story centers around a former knight named Kniryk and his quest to stop a demon invasion that is occurring throughout the Kingdom of Nysoroth, where most of the game takes place.

The game focuses on the internal struggles of the main characters in addition to the aforementioned invasion and its impact on the Kingdom.

The main character of the game is Kniryk. An exile by choice, he's now presumed dead in Landoria, his homeland. He's a righteous man, always acting with a sense of honor. However, he is often torn when justice and law conflict. He wears the red cape of the Knights of Landoria as a testament to what they originally stood for before their corruption. He's joined in his quest by others who also question their purpose in the world.

This game is a love letter to RPG Maker and role-playing games as a whole. With Exile's Journey, I strived to make a game that feels wholly consistent and maintains a professional feel. I've been using RPG Maker since 2003.

Highly engrossing storyline - You'll be hooked playing as these characters, learning about their diverse backgrounds, and watching as they develop and solve their own personal conflicts.

Open ended gameplay - After an introductory section, you're allowed to complete the game's dungeons in any order you want!

Numerous side quests - These side quests are optional, but without them you won't receive the game's best armor and equipment, or the game's only method of air travel! These side quests feature story lines of their own and offer a break from the game's main story.

15+ hours of gameplay - This game will be much longer and more epic than your average RPG Maker game!

Extremely detailed world - This game takes doesn't allow you to travel the whole world, only the large and extremely detailed Kingdom of Nysoroth. After playing and learning of the country's cultures and history you'll feel like a true Nysorothian!

Original music - Many of this music are original tracks, many of them composed by myself for the game!

Custom sound effects - I created many of the game's sound effects, including the menu sound effects, on a Korg Wavestation synthesizer!

Weapon upgrade system - Some weapons will almost never become obsolete thanks to this!

No random encounters - see enemies on the map before engaging them!

Treasure tracking - The game keeps track of all the treasure you've found in the main dungeons! Find all treasure chests to obtain a special reward!

The 2020 Misao winners have been announced! Exile's Journey wins two!

I'm sure many of you are well aware already, but for those who aren't, I'd like to announce with great pride that Exile's Journey has won two Misaos:

Not Dead Yet Award (Given to the best old game that was finally finished this year)
and
"Everlasting Journey" Award (The game that has the most content to offer)

My game also secured many other nominations. I've been following the Misaos for a long time, and from a young age. I first became aware of these annual awards after the 2005 winners were announced, when games like The Way, Laxius Power 3, and Pokemon: The Evil Inside featured prominently. As such, it's an honor for me to finally have a game of my own nominated and awarded various Misaos.

I recommend that everyone take a look at the link below. There were so many great contenders this year. All of the games featured below, winners or not, definitely deserve a play.

Thank you to everyone for your continued support. It means a lot to me. I've been a bit quiet recently, but I am still working on my newest game, Memories From a Dream. Please subscribe if you haven't!

More than that... I started in 2011.
Quick update. I received a ton of good feedback during the beta, and continue to receive valuable feedback from those who are still beta testing. I am playtesting my game one final time to rebalance many of the enemies. I should be finished with my final playtest relatively soon. After that, I will release the first public version!

To those still playtesting, you can continue to do so after I release the first public version, because I plan to release patches and new versions periodically if needed. I do encourage those who have the beta to upgrade to the newest version once I release it, though!

I am so excited to share my game with you all!
I won't make a bug report this time (writing a guide though).

But what about the blond NPC that appeared when you have to enter Colhaven as part of to the main story line? He stands south of the barrel at the eastern exit but you cannot reach him.

Edit: in the Enchanted Forest SE cave (you can bypass the boulder and the pillars) the battle against the 3 Bats is a neverending loop. (but it is possible to escape as long you are faster than the bats)

Edit 2: Why can't I make screenshots for the guide (or for bugs)?

Edit 3: Why have I to push the statues on the switches to open the doors? I can enter them nonetheless (at least the 2nd one, didn't try the first).
Thanks for notifying me of these bugs - I will soon make a fix. I'm not sure why you can't screenshot. Are you using print screen?

I press the "Print" key but the screenshots I insert in Word are black.

The only place I tried that was the riddle room in the Enchanted Forest (under the graveyard). I play in Window mode for better tabbing between game/word but change to fullscreen for screenshots.

Please note my edit 3!

Have you a Dischord Channel for this game (or a steam account)? Then you can send me a friendship request (Firefly130984) or link via PM. I am using the same avatar.

I'm not sure about the print screen issue. Unfortunately, this probably isn't something that I can fix. Can you try print screening in window mode? If you press Alt+Print Screen, it will only screenshot the currently selected window.

In your third edit, which room exactly are you talking about? Will make sure to fix when I release a patch.

The issue with the bats was actually mentioned to me during beta-testing, but I thought they were talking about a different encounter, unfortunately.
I`m not a master on computers, but i use ctrl+printscreen. Then save it in paint and from paint to folder:pictures. Pretty sure that`s not the easiest way to fix it. Then i upload it in my locker or somewhere else.
I think the screenshot issue is just an unfortunate side-effect of the video options plug-in I'm using. I generally play in window mode and use Alt+Print Screen to screenshot.
Been enjoying the game so far, and I have discovered a major bug issue.

In the underwater cave with breathable water, when u load your save file under the water your character will stuck there.

Luckily, Escape skill can be used here.

There was a line repeated in General Tedmund's speech in courtyard.

And one more thing, I find the screen color changing time wise is quite annoying in my opinion. Because it's getting too dark at some point and too reddish, but I appreciate the effort nonetheless!

Thank you for making this game, cheers!
Thanks Gezelschaft - this has been noted and will be fixed in the next update!
Finally, this game's completed!
I hope that I'll get my notebook back in the next few years or something like that as it's currently being repaired for over a month now LOL.
Dang, I want to play this game so bad. Let's see if it turns out better than Theia. :P
Hi.
Super sebbl, i don`t think it`s so much more that`s needs to repairs( of course, surely something). Better than Theia is a matter of taste. I think for example that`s Exile`s maps are hard to top. Testplayed it, and gonna play the newer(more final) version and make a serious attempt to make my first review.
I was writing this because you really ssems to wanna play it but was wondering of much new fixes. Give it a try, i think Dethmetal has mostly of the game covered by now.
I think SuperSebbl was talking about his notebook/laptop needing to be repaired. But yes, all of the bugs mentioned in the beta are now fixed. The guys in my Discord are currently playing through the game and doing a great job reporting on additional bugs they have found. I expect that there will be a few more patches (hopefully no more than two). Some of the changes I made after the beta and before the game came out unfortunately resulted in more bugs, but those will be worked out soon.

Thank you for your kind words!
Oh I somehow missed that there is a download for this! *downloading*
I'm up for some solid jRPG for sure!
I played the game and I loved it!!! I remember a map error in the final part of the game in the big castle before the domains of the dark god, I forgot to take a screenshot but I remember it was in one of the balconies and it was possible to walk trough the air, I could reach the limits of the map where there was a date written (wich I suppouse it was the version of the map or something like that), anyways I hope this helps to improve the game. I really hope you want to make a sequel!!

Thanks, gian! Somebody else has reported this as well. It will be fixed in the next patch. :-) I'm really glad you enjoyed the game!
Got a glitch in the Dwarven Castle, when I play the Desert Song at the sun door in the dungeon, it warps me to the entrance of the tomb in the desert.

Just to check, are you on the latest patch? I thought I fixed that one, but it's definitely possible that I didn't fix it completely. Either way, I will make sure it's fixed next time.

If you find yourself stuck completely, send me your save file - I'll fix it for you and send it back. (SaveXX.lsd)
