Discuss Exile's Journey over on Discord!

Exile’s Journey is a dark fantasy RPG. The story centers around a former knight named Kniryk and his quest to stop a demon invasion that is occurring throughout the Kingdom of Nysoroth, where most of the game takes place.

The game focuses on the internal struggles of the main characters in addition to the aforementioned invasion and its impact on the Kingdom.

The main character of the game is Kniryk. An exile by choice, he's now presumed dead in Landoria, his homeland. He's a righteous man, always acting with a sense of honor. However, he is often torn when justice and law conflict. He wears the red cape of the Knights of Landoria as a testament to what they originally stood for before their corruption. He's joined in his quest by others who also question their purpose in the world.

This game is a love letter to RPG Maker and role-playing games as a whole. With Exile's Journey, I strived to make a game that feels wholly consistent and maintains a professional feel. I've been using RPG Maker since 2003.

Highly engrossing storyline - You'll be hooked playing as these characters, learning about their diverse backgrounds, and watching as they develop and solve their own personal conflicts.

Open ended gameplay - After an introductory section, you're allowed to complete the game's dungeons in any order you want!

Numerous side quests - These side quests are optional, but without them you won't receive the game's best armor and equipment, or the game's only method of air travel! These side quests feature story lines of their own and offer a break from the game's main story.

15+ hours of gameplay - This game will be much longer and more epic than your average RPG Maker game!

Extremely detailed world - This game takes doesn't allow you to travel the whole world, only the large and extremely detailed Kingdom of Nysoroth. After playing and learning of the country's cultures and history you'll feel like a true Nysorothian!

Original music - Many of this music are original tracks, many of them composed by myself for the game!

Custom sound effects - I created many of the game's sound effects, including the menu sound effects, on a Korg Wavestation synthesizer!

Weapon upgrade system - Some weapons will almost never become obsolete thanks to this!

No random encounters - see enemies on the map before engaging them!

Treasure tracking - The game keeps track of all the treasure you've found in the main dungeons! Find all treasure chests to obtain a special reward!

The 2020 Misao winners have been announced! Exile's Journey wins two!

I'm sure many of you are well aware already, but for those who aren't, I'd like to announce with great pride that Exile's Journey has won two Misaos:

Not Dead Yet Award (Given to the best old game that was finally finished this year)
and
"Everlasting Journey" Award (The game that has the most content to offer)

My game also secured many other nominations. I've been following the Misaos for a long time, and from a young age. I first became aware of these annual awards after the 2005 winners were announced, when games like The Way, Laxius Power 3, and Pokemon: The Evil Inside featured prominently. As such, it's an honor for me to finally have a game of my own nominated and awarded various Misaos.

I recommend that everyone take a look at the link below. There were so many great contenders this year. All of the games featured below, winners or not, definitely deserve a play.

Thank you to everyone for your continued support. It means a lot to me. I've been a bit quiet recently, but I am still working on my newest game, Memories From a Dream. Please subscribe if you haven't!

What's the drop rate for the Goblin Sword at the beginning of the game? I can't seem to get one.

10%. I wouldn't sweat it too much if you can't get it. It's mildly useful for the first dungeon, but that's about it. It's real value comes from selling it.

Thank you for the kind words, everybody. :)
First off, I'm really enjoying the game so far! I'm currently doing the first side quest and I can't seem to find the Bone Shield anywhere. Also, the vampires seem super tough even with garlic and ice armor.. any suggestions?

Glad you're enjoying it! You can purchase the Bone Shield in Colhaven. It becomes purchasable there after you complete the second dungeon, which you have done.

As for the side quest, my best suggestion is to complete one of the main dungeons and come back. It should be much easier then. The best dungeon to complete first is the one located on the northern tip of the eastern island.
Just started game. Looks good.
Some crates and barrels in first castle aer above player.
Only mentioning to help not complain. It's my nature.
Just thought I would mention a party event:

After I go to see the princess and obtain the Enchanted Ring , Dargor is still in my party before I rejoin with him. I almost thought I would end up with two Dargors.
Enjoying the play :)

Hm, strange. I wonder how that happened. Luckily, that shouldn't really affect anything. Glad you're enjoying it!

Could be an event or cutscene line that Dargor leaves the party when they separate.
Just understand that I only report things for constructive reasons. Thanks
Couple questions.

Is your current download replete with all patches?

Where is the Alchemist in Colhaven? I was told he lives behind the item shop.
The only building behind the item shop has no door?

Thank you! If you remember, it's actually the same house that Dargor exits from when you first meet him in the beginning of the game!
I'm playing through this right now (about 12 hours in) and so far I'm having a blast! The combat system is really good, and the actual use of elemental equipment is refreshing to see.

I'm just about to take on the Wyrm's Peak sidequest...and I have something I'd like to address. The damaging swamp before Wyrm's Peak? Hurts. A lot. The constantly flashing red screen is enough to give me a headache, and I'm not photosensitive. There was no warning for this either. I would suggest either changing the damage floor mechanic to a small noise, make only the character flash red, or at the very least please put a big warning somewhere nearby to let players know that this area WILL flash red very violently.

Beyond that I have no other major gripes. Can't wait to see where the story goes. Thanks for making such a long, captivating game!

EDIT: Okay so I goofed and forgot to give one of my party members the proper boots, so I see now that the screen doesn't flash red if you do this properly. Regardless...still not a great effect. A warning for if you DON'T properly equip yourself would be nice.

Mucka, thank you for your kind words. I would like to say, though, that there is definitely a warning. There's an elf who stands near the entrance of the swamp that tells you to purchase a pair of Protective Boots and where you can buy them. I'm not sure how I can make it any more clear, because his placement is pretty obvious and he stands out quite a bit.

The mechanic is actually in place to simply get players to go to Glencoe if they haven't, since you're never required to go there for the main story. I also wanted to make sure that players are stocked up on new equipment and items since the swamp and Wyrm's Peak sections are pretty long. It's just a very subtle way to make sure that players are ready for the section. :)
