Vacant Sky coming to PSN

Originally posted on Kickstarter: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/projectbc/vacant-sky-awakening-a-pre-apocalyptic-rpg/posts/520286

Hi everyone! I know I've been pretty sparse with updates lately, but rest assured that no news is good news. We've been making progress on all fronts of the game's development and everything is more or less coming along smoothly now. I'm currently writing the events for EP1's final plot dungeon and main plot-related art assets are nearly finished. After that's finished, we'll be changing gears to optional content and quests.

In the past, I've referenced some nebulous delays that have held us up without being specific. Well, I'm finally about to be very specific about the cause of one of those delays, and I hope you'll understand and be as excited about it as I am!

I'm happy to announce that Vacant Sky Awakening will not be released on PlayStation Mobile as originally intended. Instead, the Vita version will be released on the PSN.

This was the biggest request we heard from Vita backers during the campaign. PSM is only available in select countries and lacks a lot of features that full PSN releases have (including trophies). I've been hard at work ever since we first started hearing requests for it trying to make it happen and today I can finally say with certainty that it has paid off.

Unfortunately, the downside to this is that the Vita version is going to take a little bit longer to release than originally planned, since porting the code over from PSM isn't quite so simple. However, because this will allow us to reach a bigger market and to make the game better, I hope you guys understand. Thanks for sticking with us.

Also, if anyone has any good suggestions for interesting ways to use Vita features, let me know!
This is awesome on an absolutely cosmic level.
How does an RM game port to PSN? What did you have to do?

I can't talk about the behind the scenes stuff, sorry.
Why? I don't need specifics, I just want to know if there is a way to port the RM game itself or if you rewrote it all in a different engine that allows it to be published on PSN?
You realize this game has nothing whatsoever to do with RM, right?
I think you are getting this game confused with his other game, which is also called Vacant Sky.

EDIT:
Congrats on snagging blog 10000!

No.

Yes.

yo psa there are several reasons why your various magnum opuses are not on psn and the software is only one of them

(also gratz sai)

(e: this isn't necessarily me goin "kheheheehe yr. games are low-quality", I mean to the moon got on steam so quality is obviously not that much of a factor when publishing)

(the big thing is that just having a game and wanting to publish with these people isn't enough. there are a huge number of hoops to jump through since, hey, these are busy companies and they want to make sure you're worth the time and won't steal from them or anything. making an rpg maker game technically compatible with PSN would be only the first and possibly the easiest step.)

(coming into an announcement like this and going HEY WHOA WHERE IS THE CONVENIENT ONE-STEP BUTTON I PRESS TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN FOR ME TOO is rpg-maker-community as hell.)
Oh, mawk...

I was just curious how an RM game would even get to PSN(the answer is, it doesn't). Not because I wanted to do it, or that I think RM games are good. You seem to enjoy adding meaning to the things I say.

I don't see how asking how it was done, equates to wanting an easy button. But it makes for good propaganda.

You're on a train of thought occupied only by you. Maybe instead of filtering every post through the "lol RPGmaker community" mindset, you could take them at face value and not try to twist them into some kind of psuedo-insult. Although you do it so well.

Anyways, it is a pretty cool thing to be on PSN. I might say the same thing about getting on XboxLive, but after seeing some of those games I dunno... Maybe PSN has higher standards.

Do you get to set the price of your game? Do you get to add DLC? Oh, unless that's super secret backroom stuff.

Yeah, there will be DLC, which is actually one of the major features we need for the game. Since VSA is episodic, the additional episodes will be delivered as DLC, otherwise you'd end up with 8 versions of the same game crowding your library.
yo link maybe take your own medicine and don't make big sweeping poses about my mindset and whatever based on a short post about how hard it is to get on psn and how dumb a question it was tia

I don't know who you are and I'm damn sure you don't know me

(but I cϕme in peace)

so are you planning the same sort of process Ghost Trick had on iOS, where the chapters are available at a slight cost but the main game's price is reduce to compensate? or is numbers-chat boring

Not exactly, but that's kind of how it works out in the end. Right now, I'm planning for every episode to be the same price, including EP1, even though the vast majority of the work is going to be frontloaded.
Actually, I based that mindset comment off of the many things you've said in the past. It's not the first time you've done that.

Good luck, I'll keep an eye out for it the PSN store so I can go "Oh look, there it is." Gonna release a demo? :D I don't buy games anymore but I like to play demos. I rarely buy games without testing too, so maybe that will help people decide to buy it.

I'll take my dumb questions elsewhere now.

There'll absolutely be a demo. The way I'm planning for it to work is that you download the game for free and the first dungeon constitutes the demo, after which it prompts you to purchase EP1, which unlocks the rest of it. I personally find it annoying to download a demo, play it, then have to download a separate version for the full game.

Congrats Sai, I'm really happy for you. You've come a long way.

Thanks! I'm hoping to still go a long way further.
not me. I am just jealous.
