Quick Question

If I ever make this game into a stand-alone, there's no doubt in my mind that the file size is going to be somewhere around 200MB. Which would take me forever-and-a-half for me to upload. So, what would you players wait, I have players say to a split RAR file with files of ~100MB each? Note that I would do this only for a stable (read: I have reason to believe that there would be no further changes), complete (read: the game has the "complete" tag) version of the game.

I would be fine with two 100mb files.

It might be annoying to some people, but if they really want to play, sure! (BTW, I have been following. -.-)

How would downloading two files be annoying? The way I figure it, there would be two files (The game, then the RTP versus two split RAR files) to download regardless. I know there's a section of people who already have the RTP, but why assume people have the RTP?

On the other hand, the main game page is going to be a mess with the "Important Notice" if I go through with splitting up the file. It'll be like, "Yeah, there's three downloads. One is the Nugget Crash Course version of the game, which you need the RTP for. This is where you can get it. The other two are a split RAR files that extract a stand-alone game."

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

The big problem with requiring the player to download two files is that the big DOWNLOAD NOW button doesn't take you to the page of downloads. It just downloads whichever file you set as the main one, and the player doesn't know to get the other one also.

Now, this is totally solvable. All you need to do is make a third download, set it as "hosted on external site", and set the URL to http://rpgmaker.net/games/3887/downloads/. And then set this as the main download. So that whenever someone clicks the big DOWNLOAD NOW button, instead of downloading a file, it takes them to your downloads page. I did something similar to this on one of my games that doesn't have a download at all because it's an online game; clicking the DOWNLOAD NOW button takes you to a page that tells you how to connect.

On the other hand, 200 MB isn't that big. And it takes the same amount of time to upload as two 100MB files. And if your game's truly done, you only have to do it once. So, maybe the answer is to stop being a pussy and just upload it as one file?
2 100 MB files is fine. Even 4 50 MB files.

ShortStar would also be okay with 100 2 MB files, or half of a 400 MB file.
No problems here as long as they're conveniently located next to each other!

Deal-breaker moment: If I upload an old version of the Heartache 101 executable (~102 MB) into my locker without too much compulsion, then uploading this game with RTP data shouldn't be an issue.

I would still prefer to only upload it once, though.
