Reniat returns to her home village after years away at boarding school to find that the village is nearly deserted. The mine that the village depended on heavily for boosting its economy and tourism has been overrun by monsters and no one has bothered doing anything about it. Having trained as an adventurer, she decides to see what she can do about reviving the town and making a name for herself in the world.

Homework Salesman is a life simulation game with an emphasis on dungeon exploration, completing quests, crafting new equipment and items, and befriending the people in town. The game takes inspiration from the Rune Factory and Atelier series.

  • Befriend each villager by talking to them every day and giving them gifts. Higher friendship levels allow you to learn each NPC's personal story and can also gain you access to new shop items, skills, hidden goodies, and more.

  • Unique items means that each item in the game is treated as a separate object. You can rename equipment, find rare versions of them, upgrade and repair them (weapons have durability), and even enchant them. You can have several iron swords each with different enchantments on them.

  • Six unique crafts: Cooking, Smithing, Tailoring, Enchanting, Alchemy, and Construction.

  • Quests are divided into two categories: story quests that propel your adventure forward, and side quests that are procedurally generated.

  • Features a world encounter system where you can find random events in field maps or dungeons, such as traveling merchants or a bandit who'll offer to spare you for money (or you can kill him)

  • Enemy encounters and (most) treasure chests are randomly placed on maps. You typically won't find the same monster encounter in the same dungeon spot every time. Treasure chest contents are randomly drawn from a pool of items appropriate for the zone you're in. You can also find unique weapons with randomized names, stats, and enchantments.

- Fixed bugs related to Liffely's cooking delivery service.
- Fixed bugs related to the 2nd Colorous Cave quest.

For anyone having trouble with getting Robert to spawn in the forest, I've uploaded the latest version which includes a fix for it.

(You'll know you have trouble if you can't find him on a rainy or cloudy day, as he always spawns when that happens)

Note: the game has an internal patching system that only gets triggered in Reniat's room, so if you're using a quick or autosave, make sure you go to her room to patch the save file.

It's bragging post time! We have the first person we know for sure has finished HWS! She's a tumblr user (and friend) named Risamadara and she finished the game in 46 hours, 25 minutes! She is dedicated with her love of the game (we should definitely enlist her help for beta-testing further parts!) and shows us we really have a lot in the game you can do! Wow! Where are you guys at and how are you doing? It's a beast of a game for sure but we like hearing how you're all doing!

I feel like I've been playing it about a month...does that count?

Actually 30 in game days have gone past, and since I average about 30-45 minutes per day, I'm probably around 18 hours so far. However since I like the crafting/alchemy/mining/harvesting etc. I have no idea how long it is going to take me to reach the end of the chapter. Is there and event that tells me when I've got there? Or is it a case of when I have no more quests to do I'm done? Because I've still got about 50 sodding hares to kill and the frightened little buggers keep running away from me now.

Not to mention Robert, he's handed me my buttocks on a platter a number of times so far. I'm going to have to climb the rankings quite a bit before I take him on again.

At the end you'll see a party at the pub! That's when you know the game is done (but you can do a few things after that as well like buy the mine and get a nice miner named Maddox). So it's after Robert and after the second round with Capt. Colorous! You can do it! :D

I'm super glad you enjoy the crafting! It can really take your days away. :P

Oh I have to take on the spooky captain again, after Robert? ...arrgggh, definitely going to need to craft some wicked weapons and mangle some diseased bunnies!

Right that's a couple of hours of this evening covered, and the weekend, and next week.

So just when is Chapter 2 coming out?
We're aiming for later this year. Currently on break for the rest of this month to celebrate the release, and also to work on other projects.

Good, that'll give me time to finish this one :)

I'm actually trying to take my time with this game, hoping it'll help me contain my excitement for the upcoming Rune Factory 4. I'm about 2 weeks in and still on the third floor of the cave.
I'm having a little bit of trouble with one of the randomly generated quests.

What is the probability of the Gay Snake showing up on any given day? I've only seen him once, and as I was adventuring alone at the time he gave me a sound thrashing.

Next time I see him I'll prepare my party more thoroughly, but I'm starting to worry that won't happen again! It's been several days.

It's a very low probability and there's a fixed number of days before it has a chance to reappear. You can also find Gay Snake in the cave on the 3rd floor so you can look for it there if you can't find it in the forest.

You can also raise friendship with Horton to get a chance to encounter all of the elites in Blackbird Forest at once.
Back again and I found some more bugs: the storage #2 don't hold 300 itens, it keeps at 100.
Then, when I faced Reimur (for real) I lost and now I can't find him anymore for round 2, checked everyplace until I got to the Pirate's place. Speaking of which, after these events, when I got to him, the exploration quest completed even that I didn't win the battles with Reimur and Colorous.

There's some passability bug too in the map just before where Colorous is waiting: There is a flag that lets you go straight through it and into the "black screen" and then you can get to the door by crossing another flag, letting you skip all the switches and just go forward.

I can't trigger the event that you find the two guys in chains anymore too, after I skipped it. :P

The buffs Manarage and Enrage don't subtract 1 durability from Staves. Staves and Ironplate tooltips show that Staves give +3 Def and Ironplate +3 Mat.

That's it for now. Will let you know more when I find it. :P
Thanks for the findings! I'll try to get them fixed in time for the next build.
Hey, I've got some problem with this game. When I open exe my whole computer just crash. I can't play it normally because when I enter menu, my mouse just reacts very very slow. What should I do? :(
What are your computer's specs?
Mine computer is Presario x1000 with Windows XP.
Yeah that thing is too old to run the game. Are you considering a new computer anytime soon?
Not really. :D *sigh* that's to bad. I really wanted to play this game.:)

I'm sure soon (maybe?) there will be a nice LP for it! So until you can one day get a new computer, you can make due with that? It's too bad old computers can't play it well though.
