Tale of the World

Something sinister is going on in the castle! But before you can investigate (ie. talk to a handful of NPCs and get a long-winded mission assignment from someone in charge) you must first escape from your guild hall!

Fight lonely old men, various monsters, and some boss monsters that are pretty big in this epic adventure!

But wait, there's more!

If you order (we mean download) now (and into the future) you get:

  • The ability to customize all your items and gear! (Dual wield Greatswords? How about a magical wand that triples your experience? Maybe a healing item that also buffs every stat for 100 turns?!)
  • Change Classes at will!
  • Unlock different Classes!
  • Use a class as a Sub-class!
  • And even more Class line items to make this list look huge!
  • A fully customized battle system that uses combos, happens on-screen, features 3 characters at once, and even uses animations that are only mostly ripped off from the default Ace animations?!
  • A lengthy adventure that is as long as you want! (If you want it to be 80 hours, just leave it running on your computer for several days!)
  • Collectors set of figurines (Disclaimer: No, you actually don't, this is a complete lie!)

Project History and Continuation

This was an entry created in 2 weeks! (Yes, all art and scripts and resources were done in 2 weeks! Except for like the tilesets and icons, which is in the credits section, we didn't even make those and both would take us way more than 2 weeks!)

Meet the Cast

Blanc

Our main heroine. I don't know why she is dancing backwards or who she is going to punch by going in that direction.

Name: Is the name of a pudding... like everyone else!

Weapon of Choice: Depends on her current class!

Likes: Her own table-top RPG game she's making

Dislikes: Having to go through combat refresher courses

Blanc is a recently appointed mercenary in the nameless guild of Boudin. She is excited that the castle has called for her services on some important mission. Maybe it will change her life?

That is her bored or, "Oh really." look. It is used quite a bit actually!

Junket

I claim this rock in the name of loin-cloth!

Name: Surprisingly, it's the name of a pudding.

Weapon of Choice: Depends on his current class!

Likes: Manly stuff. Being a jerkhole. Women.

Dislikes: Thinking and monsters that are 'bigger' than him.

Junket is a mercenary of some renown. I'm not sure how much, but it is definitely quantifiable as 'some.' He's nicer when you get to know him, which basically means he's a jerkhole but you get used to it.

This is his most intelligent looking face. I'm being nice by using it. (Where have I seen this face-pose before...)

Ashure

What? Where's the cleavage? I thought female armor only covered...

Name: Okay, this is totally weird, but like everyone else in the game, it's a type of pudding! What a coincidence!

Weapon of Choice: A sword! (No, actually it's based on her class, gotcha!)

Likes: Money, money, and sometimes men (with lots of money that will die soon.)

Dislikes: Not having money. Men that want something in return for money. Men she could marry for money that want more from her than her having their money.

Ashure is a lady who likes money and fancy stuff. If it doesn't turn a profit, it doesn't turn her head. Overall she's really not a very nice person, but she kinda acts nice because it makes her look fancy. And fancy looks like money. I think you're starting to get the connection.

"Are you serious? I am getting paid for being here, right?"

Credits

Giving credit where it's due:

1. Mack & First Seed Materials: Tileset and Sprites!
2. Lunarea: VX Tilesets!
3. Whitecat: Extra icons!

Actually you're #3 to report this! I must know how it's done! :O

Do you have any details on what items they were? How many of the features you were moving?
It was right after I came out of the castle, when you receive all those items. I was just playing around with the menu, used a Red Pudding as Left Base and White Pudding as the Right Base, hit synthesize and it crashed xD

The error message that came up was something along the lines of "event referenced a script that does not exist", I could recreate it if that would be helpful :>

Edit -- haha wow sorry! I just read "good base for synthesis" and was off xD thank you!

This is now fixed, making a blog post about it!

So I'm fighting the first battle, what's I suppose to do? keep hitting him? Or find a combo. I keep hitting B or whatever. Not doing much or I missed quickly on what I'm suppose to do.

If you mean the tutorial he tells you to hold the block button, hold that to block for a while.

I'm loving the humor I'm seeing so far, not to mention the character portraits and what-not. The the character speed feels a bit slow, though.
>> I've started playing just now- and it's delightfully fun. >> The lampshading and outright fourth wall breaking is great.

...And I'm currently working on dualwielding great swords, because clearly, this is something necessary. >_>

..Ogod. And it works. Sweeet. ...(Now to find out if I can stack +25% accuracy on both my weapons...I doubt I'll need more than that <_<)
As a general note, I noticed something mildly weird about the Plant gathering thing. When you go to first grab a bushel, it'll occasionally show you as receiving oodles of items (like anywhere between 2-6?) and it'll only do this once every so often. >> The thing is. you only get one item, despite what it shows xD.

Also. This weapon is So Disgaea Tier, atm. Greatsword +22 (135 Attack, 60 Luck, 200 HP, Hit Rate 60%, Dual Wield (yes, I have a second greatsword), Crit Chance 5%, Experience boost 105%, Agi 45

=3 P.s. This games system is friggin amaaazing.

Collectors set of figurines (Disclaimer: No, you actually don't, this is a complete lie!)

You are cruel people, you know that?
>_> Wow. Just focusing all the upgrades on one char makes things broooken. Hah. I had a boss hitting 0's on me >>.

And all the blame no doubt rests on the gear. >> Which has currently upgraded tooo >> : An +121 Greatsword (Attack +1530, Luck +485, Hp +1200, Hit rate +110%, Dual wield, Crit chance +10%, Exp boost +180%, and Agi +345), Paired up with +79 Great Sword (Mag +745, Attack +725, Def +440, SP+65, GRD+225, Agi+135, HP +150).
In tandem with this, there's a +18 vest I'm wearing gives +27% Crit, Magic damage reduction of 83% and Phys reduction of 78%, Counter attack of 5% ..and an EXP boost of 175%. x2 Gold and drops, as well. (There's other stuff but it's less relevant.) Also have some spiffy +27 battle boots, with +15% evasion, +39 % hit rate, +20 magic evade, +6% Health regen, and 115% exp boost. << and some +22 Battle boots to make a set. (Attack +250, Conserve TP, Counter attack 4%, Defense +175, Crit +9%, Stam regen +8%, Stam Cost 94%, Exp boost +130%, luck +90).

>_> Have yet to meet this secret boss, but I'm still wondering if he's gonna be a challenge or not , given my OCD level disgaea esque Prepwork.<<.)
Nice equipment! That's what the system was intended for, if you want more of a challenge to match it you can increase enemy levels in your Menu > Options - it increases their stats AND the exp they grant, so you can compound your leveling. : )

I didn't get time to fix the item display bug, what it's actually showing is items you got in between picking flowers or mining. If you killed 3 enemies and got 4 items total from doing it, your next flower would show those 4 items + what you picked!
Wow. >> Okay. Boosting enemy levels by 60 -Definitely- makes them harder to kill.

Also, there is a weird glitch if you try to save during the countdown timer for fights. It seems to erase your save file. (I have thankfully not died during this point, so it hasn't adversely affected me, as of this moment). Specifically, it will erase the file you attempted to save in.

>> I also had my first main character death, by virtue of having boosted the enemies levels by 70 in the Icy place. @_@.

Btw, On the matter of classes
Is Solder, Thief, Priest, Mage, Knight, Sage, Spellsword, Adept, Paladin and Ninja all of them?
>_> I currently have Soldier, Knight and Pally at 99, and the rest are between 30 and 40 <_< I'm specifically a Paladin/Knight, for the sweet HP growth, and amaazing attack and defense stats it provides.

Edit: Oh dear God. Found optional Boss. Was Squished by optional boss. >_> I...think I'm going to remove the +80 levels he has now. Being only able to deal 12 damage on crits was demoralizing.

Edit x2 Combo :>_> Without his extra 80 levels, That went -Alot- differently. << And what happened after was..interesting.

As for the ending:
I liked how hilariously inverted everyones 'happily ever after' becomes. I also find it amusing what happens depending on how you deal with the chancelor. It was pretty spiffy. Really, I absolutely adored the hell out of the game. The only nitpicky flaw I can think of, is there is a few typos in the optional end credits.

Anywho, I'll probably give this game a poke now and then, to continue farming up material for my weapon >_> So that I can try and eventually beat a level +99 variant of the optional boss.

I was going to do a video playthrough "Let's Judge", but I was in one of my early morning rambling moods and the game froze a couple times during combat. :< The scoring will take a hit because of the bugs, but it's still one of the top entries and a great achievement for two weeks.

You're not accidentally pressing the 'A' key on the keyboard to pause combat, right? (I didn't have time to add a warning or something on the screen.) In this case everything except the music is completely paused, even animations.

Other than the pause issue, I've had no report of combat actually freezing, so if you have more details please let me know!

The only known bug from the original release was if you tried to synth a completely blank item on the left (and you selected one of the blank lines on that blank item) it would crash.

Ah, yeah, the synth was the other one. The combat was lagging a lot before the freeze, and I tried every button, and got a "not responding" - I wonder if it's just my computer?

I still enjoyed the game despite the lagging and fairly slow intro. The art is fantastic, and the base of the system is solid, even if the learning curve is a bit in-your-face at first. It's 5th on my personal list, and my top 5 are all VERY close in scoring and preference.
ok i can't figure it out. do shields do something useful that i'm not seeing?

no reason to use a shield with the halberd giving 50 def and the lance giving grd

Armor/Weapons are a matter of preference. It's whatever stats you want to play with and how many slots you want for synthesis. With one item you'd be limited to that many slots for synthesis, with two items you'd have double the space.

On the world map, there seems to be a beanstalk leading up to some floating islands. Is there any way to unlock that area?
