The Makers

Tale of the World

Something sinister is going on in the castle! But before you can investigate (ie. talk to a handful of NPCs and get a long-winded mission assignment from someone in charge) you must first escape from your guild hall!

Fight lonely old men, various monsters, and some boss monsters that are pretty big in this epic adventure!

But wait, there's more!

If you order (we mean download) now (and into the future) you get:

  • The ability to customize all your items and gear! (Dual wield Greatswords? How about a magical wand that triples your experience? Maybe a healing item that also buffs every stat for 100 turns?!)
  • Change Classes at will!
  • Unlock different Classes!
  • Use a class as a Sub-class!
  • And even more Class line items to make this list look huge!
  • A fully customized battle system that uses combos, happens on-screen, features 3 characters at once, and even uses animations that are only mostly ripped off from the default Ace animations?!
  • A lengthy adventure that is as long as you want! (If you want it to be 80 hours, just leave it running on your computer for several days!)
  • Collectors set of figurines (Disclaimer: No, you actually don't, this is a complete lie!)

Project History and Continuation

This was an entry created in 2 weeks! (Yes, all art and scripts and resources were done in 2 weeks! Except for like the tilesets and icons, which is in the credits section, we didn't even make those and both would take us way more than 2 weeks!)

Meet the Cast

Blanc

Our main heroine. I don't know why she is dancing backwards or who she is going to punch by going in that direction.

Name: Is the name of a pudding... like everyone else!

Weapon of Choice: Depends on her current class!

Likes: Her own table-top RPG game she's making

Dislikes: Having to go through combat refresher courses

Blanc is a recently appointed mercenary in the nameless guild of Boudin. She is excited that the castle has called for her services on some important mission. Maybe it will change her life?

That is her bored or, "Oh really." look. It is used quite a bit actually!

Junket

I claim this rock in the name of loin-cloth!

Name: Surprisingly, it's the name of a pudding.

Weapon of Choice: Depends on his current class!

Likes: Manly stuff. Being a jerkhole. Women.

Dislikes: Thinking and monsters that are 'bigger' than him.

Junket is a mercenary of some renown. I'm not sure how much, but it is definitely quantifiable as 'some.' He's nicer when you get to know him, which basically means he's a jerkhole but you get used to it.

This is his most intelligent looking face. I'm being nice by using it. (Where have I seen this face-pose before...)

Ashure

What? Where's the cleavage? I thought female armor only covered...

Name: Okay, this is totally weird, but like everyone else in the game, it's a type of pudding! What a coincidence!

Weapon of Choice: A sword! (No, actually it's based on her class, gotcha!)

Likes: Money, money, and sometimes men (with lots of money that will die soon.)

Dislikes: Not having money. Men that want something in return for money. Men she could marry for money that want more from her than her having their money.

Ashure is a lady who likes money and fancy stuff. If it doesn't turn a profit, it doesn't turn her head. Overall she's really not a very nice person, but she kinda acts nice because it makes her look fancy. And fancy looks like money. I think you're starting to get the connection.

"Are you serious? I am getting paid for being here, right?"

Credits

Giving credit where it's due:

1. Mack & First Seed Materials: Tileset and Sprites!
2. Lunarea: VX Tilesets!
3. Whitecat: Extra icons!

On the world map, there seems to be a beanstalk leading up to some floating islands. Is there any way to unlock that area?

It was an intended dungeon, but we ran out of time. Not completely sure if we'll make it an unlockable place in the future or not.
the only problem i had with the game is how rare the perma stat boosts were >:( i currently have +1mag and +1att and despite all my efforts i haven't been able to get any more. Also, MINUS %HP IS SO FREAKING OP... *Ahem*... sorry about that. I have a red crystal that does -140% hp damage. Nothing beats killing super ultra OP uber boss inferno mode in 1 shot.

Most bonuses were meant to be on the equipment instead of on consumable items (also, put a +1 on a 15 use item, and it's +15!)

If you're looking for ores to upgrade your equipment with and having no luck mining the ore deposits around, you can also buy basic ones from a vendor in town to get the basic stat bonuses you want.
Something else you can do is put up to 3 +1s on any item, use all but 1 charge and then resynth the stats onto a new item. I recently discovered that almost all +1s are on the mistletoe so now I know what to look for :D (Now, if only mistletoe was sold in stores...)

Also, the -hp% really is massively overpowered. As far as I know it only comes off of zombiewood and everything is just a massive 1hit K.O. cakewalk. And thanks to being able to resynth stats from one consumable to another I don't even have to bother with finding more zombiewood.

Edit: Is there a list of classes and requirements anywhere?

The -% HP is pretty overpowered, but you can build insane equipment too, I didn't see a reason to lock that up so people couldn't use it. I might reduce the amount in the revised version or re-think it, but it's the only way to 'easily' beat the optional final boss. : P

As for classes there's not official list, but...:

Knight: Soldier (level 18)
Sage: Thief (10), Priest (15)
Spellsword: Soldier (10), Mage (15)
Adept: Mage (20), Sage (20)
Paladin: Priest (20), Knight (20)
Ninja: Thief (20), Sage (15), Spellsword (20)

I think if you limit which stats can be moved between consumables it would fix that issue. I do find it amusing how just by playing through the first dungeon multiple times you can get everything you need ( -hp% and perma stat bonuses) to beat the entire game.

Edit: Also, are you planning on expanding the game?
hey um what were the rules of the contest this was made for? besides "you only get two weeks".

just curious, it's helpful to know any constraints/limitations to evaluate a game.

The theme was to show what VX Ace was capable of (the contest started the day of it's release or a week or so after, I forgot.)
Looks interesting, I'll download it ;)
Played the game. Loved it.

Question...

Where's the music from? I've never used Ace or VX for that matter, so I wouldn't know if it was custom or just the RTP stuff.

It's all RPG Maker VX Ace RTP music!
For whatever reason...in the beginning and assigning skill keys, when I try to set the COMBO all I can set is B and that automatically comes up first instead of A then B. Advice please....thanks!

When you press B then it immediately shows A B, or when you press B it shows A?

Without seeing what's happening it's a bit hard to guess, but you might want to see if you remapped your keys (press F1 to see what A and B map to.)

By default A = Left Shift, B = Z
If you changed control mode in the system options to "XP" then Z = A, X = B, C = C
This looks awesome.

Also, Junket's face reminds me of Cliff from Star Ocean for some reason..
It's the emotion he always had when thinking.

In any case, subscribed and downloaded!
How can I defeat the first boss and how many level should I reach to fight the first boss?Is damn hard.
meisam
meisam your not using semicolon properly, and that's a laughing matter.

Anaryu I played 3 of your games and I must say, you are a genius in designing battle mechanic so innovative and so fun.
The game was very funny thank you for hours of loughter
Take note that I mostly look for battle mechanic when I play games and that's why I mention it, I don't understand art that much so... .

Also I do hope your games were a little longer and I could kill more dragons.
Sorry for my bad English.

ok im on this game now :D!
b4 starting im probably going to hate the customization in this i like mid lvl ones too much ruins the experience for me )specifically perm stat boost items which are the biggest criminal)ok here we gooo!

the the title screen alone is amazing the art work for the characters is better then anything id even hope to be able to do
and the lighting effect that happens as you move between the choices on the title screen is a very cool touch
this is the only game i seen that has such a nifty extra effect!

lmao the hero group is the same exact people from "you are not the hero!" XD
maybe this is their adventure

the intro was intriguing well done!
was hilarious the dialog they were saying

in game menu
-amazing character picture love it
-love how the stats are shown in the equip menu 1st time seeing that
-synth looks interesting
-main/sub class cool concept but the lvl idea in that worries me
(i dont get what the 1 and 2 are as if your on main you can have 3 of the classes all say 1 but id figure 1 is main and 2 is sub by guessing)
-options change enemy lvl? XD is this like difficulty? pretty cool :D

Glitches and issues not including personal dislikes

being able to leave town b4 talking to the king
this just looks bad as theirs nothing out their until after you got a party you cant go into any of the areas XD

ok i may either quit or take a break from this game
i love pretty much everything it seems except for the synth system.
i really just want to vuy potions and antidotes(which i cant even figure out how to cure poison
i also liked the battle system in world outside better which is similar except the allies your not controlling fight on their own and its free roam

thats what i dislike

everything else?amazing
the art,the comedy, the references even the class system is pretty cool after getting a bit used to it
so yeah i want to play more but that one thing which plays a pretty key role in the game mechanics is hard for me to work around :(

short gameplay videos
Tried this game. Couldn't get past the beginning. When you talk to Figgy and are supposed to assign skills to buttons, it didn't work. I couldn't attack at all.
This game look beautiful. I can't wait to try it when I get time. :)
