Game Design

Final Adjustments

As stated in a previous blog, the demo is going to be released around the time of Christmas. So, I thought I'd compile a list of implemented features that will be appearing in the demo and point out some final adjustments to those features.

  • A lore-rich plot that spans the entire Green Forest (80 maps not including dungeons and interiors) and portions of the human lands.

  • Lumbar's decisions/responses will effect how Greenlore progresses. Its citizens will either become more kindhearted and forgiving or more sinister and cruel toward the humans than ever.

  • Detailed characters that react to Lumbar's every decision, be it good or evil.

  • Optional quests are entwined in the main plot and aren't there just to take up time or reward worthless items.

  • Gather herbs essential to creating powerful potions or sell the ingredients off to a local alchemist for a nice little profit.

  • Purchase a house in Greenlore and spruce it up with purchased furniture and a cat or dog.

There are several more minor features that do exist but aren't worth noting. A lot of these features have been given some last minute adjustments. The following are a few examples:

  • There are more personal moments between Lumbar and Jupiterweb now. Even a possible romance option (not included in the demo yet).

  • Optional quests now DO have a small impact on certain plot moments. An elf that Lumbar saved could find him later and reward him with additional items or even offer combat assistance.

  • Gathering herbs now adds a small chance that Lumbar will find Moonlit Moss. This rare plant offers a quest-line that follows right beside the main plot.

  • Another house has been added for purchase in Greenlore. Now Lumbar can either purchase a smaller house or a larger house. Each has its own benefits (despite the smaller one being four times cheaper).

That's that I suppose. The plot does continue on for quite some time considering that this is a demo. Took me four hours to finish it and I knew exactly what to do and where to go. None of these features will crash the game but I imagine the occasional minor bug or text error lingers.

Announcement

Demo coming soon

After some time away, I'm at the point where a demo is almost ready to be put up. It'll contain roughly 35% of the total game.

The into, prologue, and chapter 1 will be included. Basically, up to the point where the humans begin their war. Should be avaliable Dec. 21st.

Progress Report

Some big changes

Before I get begin implementing the game's story, I decided to revise most of it. I've basically just re-worked in which the order of things happen. There's also a new introduction, and some minor tweaks to the mapping.

Before the revision, Lumbar and Jupiter found an ancient tablet that was magical. But, magic hadn't been used by the elves in over two centuries, which led Lumbar and Jupiterweb to believe that the tablet was before magic became forbidden. This would date the tablet back to the times of Avachel and creation.

After finding the tablet, and seeking some guidance (a.k.a. direction) from Keeper Tanoon, Lumbar and Jupiterweb were to set out to find the Fountain Fairies. Afterward, the Fountain Fairies would help the elves regain their magic and the use of it. However, the Human-Elf war will make things more difficult, and that will have to be dealt with.

Those two big moments still happen. But, they'll be told differently. Anyway! That's as far as I've taken the revision so far, but I plan to redo all of it. Hopefully, for the better.

That's all for now, take care!

Progress Report

Still pushing foward

Just wanted to toss up a quick update before I go on vacation. So there's quite a bit to talk about because a lot of progress has been made. But I'll to keep it as short and simple as possible.

Here goes!

Let's begin with the mapping. In about a week, I've mapped the entire Green Forest, which consists of 75 maps (counting interiors too). That's not bad! And it's not just explore, explore, explore. Quite often you may run across a weak elf that needs healing, or perhaps an artifact that needs recovering. Or you may just walk into a group of humans patrolling and have to battle them! Point is that there's a lot of events that are randomly happening around you.

Not a lot has changed about the gameplay. It follows an open-world sort of style where you can complete meaningful tasks whenever you see fit. However, some parts of the Green Forest will be blocked.

You'll eventually just have to begin to follow the story and stick with it. I've yet to really sit down and begin implementing the story, but some of it's in there even if it's subject to being reworked countless times before this perfectionist is satisfied with it.

So that's about it. Forgot to mention (just didn't want to make the blog post longer with an additional paragraph) that I also added in some scripts and music. Credits are on the front page!

Hope you guys have a good week. :)

In need of elf sprites

I'm in need of some elven sprites. I've looked over at RMVX.net but I've not found any yet. So if any of you have any or are willing to edit some ears onto some existing sprites just let me know.

I'd greatly appreciate it and I'd be sure to credit you!
