AN ARTIST'S APPROACH TO GAMING

STORY: 40 years prior to the start of the game, a huge war raged across the island continent of Silvania. The following genocide and violence has bred the hatred of one individual, who set out to ensure that the rest of the world suffers as his people have suffered in the past. Darin, Ryaena, and Phylip live in the Silvania of today, in relative peace and harmony. However it is not long before war begins to affect them as well.

GRAPHICS: Visually the game is very much a tribute to the production groups dedication to the project. 100% original sprites, hand rendered images and some lovely splash panels depicting a drunken dragon ride (and subsequent arrest). Sometimes the graphics feel a tad flat, and obsticles that look like they should be easily traversed are in fact solid objects requiring you to detour around them, but otherwise the visual design is very well implimented. Additional touches such as hand rendered backgrounds for the opening cut-scene add a touch of fairytale to what could easily have seemed cliche in places and work nicely. Sprite animation is fluid, with one highlight being a pool of liquid forming into a jelly monster that stands out in the memory.

SOUND: Musically the score is original and relatively compelling, though occasionally forgettable. Sound effects are well placed and events have the correct 'feel' to them as they happen, meaning that you are never isolated from the immersive experience that an rpg should be. As a total the music throughout the game is of a high standard and loops well in the longer areas.

OVERALL: Whilst not as funny as the comedy-laiden opening promises, the game does manage to keep the character interaction both witty and believable. People are likable, flawed and easy to project onto over the course of play, which always helps. Elements of the story may be cliche, but the graphic design of the game is such that you don't really mind seeing plot twists coming because the joy is in seeing how they are visually presented. Coupled with some nice touches to the generic levelling system, a great encounter device that adds extra interest to exploration, and some nice touches (such as the drunk status effect that never gets used enough in most games) and you have an enjoyable experience.

SCORE: 4 out of a possible 5 stars!

Yeah, this is a good review, and a good game. Only you forgot to tell them about the spelling, wich is bad at times. Can't wait for the full version.

Why don't you talk about the game? I just see a bunch of words that don't mean anything.
