Super RMN Bros. is a collaborative community project where members of the rpgmaker.net website use the Super Mario Bros. X engine to create Mario levels. These stages are refined and compiled into one big game at the end of the event. This is the third installment in the series, and the first to be managed by halibabica. The game mimics the physics of the Mario games of yore; specifically Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World.

The game requires SMBX to run. This website does not provide illicit programs; we only condone their use. Google is your friend. When you've obtained the engine itself, unzip this game's download into SMBX's 'Worlds' folder. Run SMBX, click 'Start Game', and you're ready to play!

The Plot: Mario, Luigi, Toad, Peach, and Link have stumbled into RMN's Pit of Challenges, where they must gather stars from the worlds created by our users if they ever hope to escape. With 110 levels to explore and 150 stars to find, they have their work cut out for them!

Ready for Download!

After nearly three and a half months, this thing's ready and available to play!

The main download is the normal version of the game. It has star requirements for higher worlds, mini-boss, and boss levels. The extra 'unlocked' download removes all star requirements except those for the final level and leaving the pit.

Have fun!

Thanks, halibabica! I've managed to hold my own so far (only a few more levels in world 7), but if I should get horribly stuck at some point, I'll definitely make use of that.

If you need help getting any of them, I wrote a walkthrough detailing how to find each one. It's a tab on the game page. :3

Just a little heads up: I'm almost done with World 6 right now, and got to the point where I have to start "grinding" for secret stars in order to be able to continue. In retrospect, it probably wasn't the best idea to choose the "genuine" experience and play the version in which these star requirements are still present. Oh well, letsa go again!

Yeah. That's just a portion of this game's many flaws. It doesn't help that some of these secret stars are REALLY well-hidden (like in the Heat Man stage clone)

I could have done without the story being 'halibabica vs Talking Time' but at least it's almost 100% skippable.
It was worth it to bury that awful hatchet; it hasn't bothered me since. Besides, I've heard people say they really liked the story.

SMB3 story was better.

I'd prefer to wait until December due to events this month :)

That you volunteering to run it? Because we can hook you up.

I'd be down for it! However, I haven't quite figured out how to structure the event yet(what judges we would need, what rules to be in place, what to even title this, etc.). I'd also wait for about a month or so to kick it off, because my main computer is experiencing some connection problems that I'll hopefully fix soon.

I'll keep you posted!

Am I the only one who didn't particularly enjoy Super RMN World? I'm in to RMN Bros for the hodge-podge!

I feel like we can do this again to some degree, but maybe as more of a "level-making contest" like the Tower of Bias series over at the SMBX forums. Those who make the best levels could win some prize.

It could be good event material that might revive some interest in SMBX.

I'll be honest, I didn't even pay attention to the story. I don't really play Mario games for story XD

RMN World was a hodge-podge, just one with more QA and a fantastically presented and interesting hub world.

SRB was still a hodge-podge technically.

Yeah Green Suede Shoes wasn't your greatest level but it was still better than 2/3 of the game.

RMN Bros 1 was a lot of fun to make and very experimental, people just trying things and seeing what worked. Very fun. It just didn't lead to a coherent or structured game. I actually thought the hub world was cool though!

RMN Bros 2 wasn't that bad, it actually fixed a lot of the problems with the first game, it just had a lot of development problems. With a better world map and a little more quality control this one would have been fine.

I think RMN Bros 3 was the worst. Quantity over quality, a monotonous hub world, almost half the levels laughably unplayable. I threw my level for this one together in an hour because I'd given up on the series by this point.

RMN World made me believe again.

All in all, though, I had the most fun participating in and playing RMN Bros 1.

This is why we made RMN All-Stars, remember? I still posit that far greater sins have been committed in the Mario romhack community.

'touche

My overall thoughts on the series is this:

RMN Bros. 1 - Basically everyone was making their first level with this. Top it off with the addition of a convoluted, threat-imposing HUB world and a lack of cohesion, the game was a giant mess. It holds a bit of charm in being the rough first game of the series, though.

RMN Bros. 2 - Took a step forward by introducing quality control with its levels, but still wasn't strict enough about filtering out the crap. It had some really good levels (I especially remember Racheal's ghost house level), but also some really bad ones (That one with the spinies in the woods and the glitchy fences). Ultimately, this game landed in the dreaded "mediocre zone," where it's not good enough to be worth playing, yet not awful enough to be laughed at like the previous entry or its sequel.

RMN Bros. 3 - Had the most experimental levels of the series so far, allowing for some more memorable levels. At the same time, the experimentation didn't work well in its favor, as some of the worst ideas I've ever seen conceived for a mario level were witnessed in this game. It's a different kind of "bad" from RMN Bros 1; that game was bad because people had no idea what they were doing, this game was bad because people had an idea what they were doing but didn't apply it well to the engine's limitations. Thus, we got an NPC babysitting level, a broken scrolling level, a falling level, and secret star abuse. It was horrible.

RMN All-Stars - Took the good levels from the previous games and made said good levels even better. This was the start of an actually good entry to the series.

RMN World - This is, hands-down, the series' saving grace thus far. The strict quality control worked well in the game's favor overall, and while some levels do have flaws, it was still an overall fun game to play.
