A big blow

As you all may know, Square Enix is releasing the original Dragon Quest trilogy (i.e. Dragon Quests 1-3) on iPhone and Android pretty soon. The whole intention of Dragon Quest + was to make the most visually appealing Dragon Quest 1 remake possible on an RPG Maker. However, with these games getting the equivalent DS graphic style(if not better) I feel that my project is a lost cause.

NOW, this does not mean that I won't release the game at all. It's just that I feel that this game will easily be overshadowed by the smartphone counterparts and will most likely surpass this in every aspect possible. I will be buying if for sure when it arrives. If you are still on board, all on board who is going on board. Expect this game to come out sooner than expected. This does not mean that the game has been rushed. It's just that the extra content won't be as extensive as it was planned to be.

I'm beginning college now and I want to do videogames professionally. I don't want to do amateur anymore. Not to say that this isn't a great prep because, it is. However, I want to ensure you that both Dragon Quest+ and Just Peachy are being done with excellent quality. I just don't want to oversaturate with Dragon Quest remakes. If you're interested, a Dragon Quest 1 Reboot for RPG Maker VX is being produced by a friend of mine named Jamirus on Dragon's Den. He's still going full speed ahead but not me.

Anywho, this is Ljink signing off.

I say you don't give a hoot and make the game you want to make. I personally think that iPhone ports of games like these are cumbersome to play on anyway.

You're magical to me.

Yeah, I'd rather play Dragon Quest on a computer than on a phone.
I am 99% sure your version will be cheaper.

And maybe have less micro-transactions.

Anyway, to expand on my point, you shouldn't be developing this with the mindset that you are trying to compete with what's already out there. One person's iteration of this game is THEIR iteration, so what is yours? The good thing about fangames is that they allow other developers to demonstrate their idea of the franchise. That is, if YOU were developing a Dragon Quest game, what would YOU add?

That's one of the biggest selling points of this project, actually, because rather than just trying to port the game to RPG Maker, you actually add stuff we haven't seen before, so I wouldn't give up on this project if I were you.

Well, thank you but by no means am I giving up. It just won't be as in depth as it was going to be. By me saying that, I mean that with all the extra content, the game was beginning to lose its path and taking an absurd amount of time to create something so small. I just feel that way with remakes. If I'm remaking something rather than a fangame, I have to think if the game will hit or miss with some of the added extras. So I'm in a state of condensing the game right now.
