Download removal and...

Hello everyone.

Seems strange to create a random blog post on a cancelled game doesn’t it? Especially on a game as old as this. Good thing this isn’t a cancelled game anymore then eh? Due to the age of the game page I expect that many of the original subscribers are no longer around to read this (no one to blame but myself for that of course). Times have changed and this project may not be as relevant or as appealing as it once was but I’m still really happy to let you guys know my plans to continue with this project.

Why RM2k3 instead of a newer program?
RM2k3 is my guilty pleasure - I enjoy it so much it’s embarrassing. I’m aware it’s the red haired step child of the RPG Maker family and is generally more frowned upon these days. The project was started in this maker and I’ve never envisioned it made in anything else. I really like MV - I’ve used it a lot but I’ve never made anything remotely concrete with it. I get so lost in the database I can’t pull myself out and actually work on the game itself. I asked myself; do I have fun making this game and make progress with RM2k3? Or do I perhaps make a more technically impressive game that may appeal to a wider audience in MV, but might never see the light of day? The choice for me was obvious.

Why come back to this project after so long?
It makes me sad to see “Date added 20/02/2008”. That’s nearly ten years. That’s ten years I’ve had this idea in my head that still hasn’t gone away. It wasn’t some inner turmoil - one day I went back to the project and ... I kept going back to it. Before I realised it I’d made more progress than I ever did in 2008. I kept quietly working it, just for fun, but here I am and I feel like it’s worth mentioning to anyone that used to care. Ultimately, I want to make this game and I’m going to.

Don’t you have other projects your working on?
It’s true I do. I started White Magic as a small project to get something under my belt before I took on something else because I didn’t think I was ready for a real project. White Magic has taken a back seat, but that happened before I picked this back up. Don’t think that means it’s cancelled - it’s absolutely not. White Magic is a totally different beast. It’s smaller, less complex, and less serious; in a perfect world I would finish that before I even thought of this project (as you can see that isn’t quite the case). I’m not entirely sure what’s going to happen, you may well see White Magic completed before this. Villnoire is what I’m focussed on right now. Villnoire is what I’m enjoying.

Thank you for reading/skimming/ignoring completely. The game page is going to be changing a lot over the next day or so. Nothing on this page reflects the look, feel or status of the project and how it’s changed. Sometime tomorrow I will be removing the download. This is your only warning. It makes no sense it keep the download up. Give me a day or so to spruce up the game page and all shall become clear.

See ya!

Hi Little Wing Guy!

I'm a big fan of RM2k/3 games. Not sure why it's considered to be a bad engine at all. I actually prefer the RTP graphics of 2000 and 2003 over MV, XP, and VX ACE.

Looking forward to your big announcement!
Yay!

There are actually a surprising number of people returning to Rm2k3 in the past year or two, especially after the legalization. Glad to see you're back to work on this.

Way too relatable lol

Hi Waxius! There isn't exactly a further announcement, just that I'm going to be purging the page and updating things. There's nothing new to replace the old download just yet - but y'know, working on it, good intentions and all that stuff!

Blindmind! Wow it's cool to see you still active here. Man, back in the day I used to secretly consider you my RPG Maker rival - in a friendly way of course.

Despite being on this website for a while, I just found this page... so damn, this is an old ass game. (I began my current one in 2012, and here I thought that was a long time ago)

I don't play many RM games, but I´ll keep an eye on this. Let me know if you need any beta testers.

Same!... if you need Beta Testers I would also like to offer up my time.
First time seeing this, but I am in love with the imagery, so here's a new subscriber to help fill all those you've lost.

Also, in case you haven't seen it yet, the newest revision for the rm2k3 English version has some crazy nice enhancements for pictures that I think you'll enjoy, given your multitude of custom menus. https://rpgmaker.net/forums/topics/17752/

Another thing that may help you is the Picture Text Creator, which can be found here: https://rpgmaker.net/engines/custom/utilities/78/
The utility page kind of sucks, but it's super helpful for quickly creating custom menus for rm2k3. I strongly encourage you to check it out if you haven't already.
Ah that's feeling is close to me with having a game that you just enjoying to develop since 2000s.
And it's great that you will update it heavily soon ~

Thanks! That's very flattering, lol. I tried out the current download, and noticed you incorporated some of the same footstep/ambient sounds as BR, which is pretty cool. Unfortunately the game crashed pretty early on, but I'll give it another try some time this week.

Btw, will this version be a commercial project, or will it stay free? I saw you switched over to the official Rm2k3, and REFMAP/royalty free-resources, compared to what's in the old demo.

Thanks both of you. I'm not there yet, but I'll definitely be in contact nearer the time. I value any feedback!

Thanks very much for that, I've never seen any of that before. To be totally honest I've already created all the menus for the game already, I don't know how most people make them, but I made do with MS paint and a fair bit of patience haha.

I have thought about things such as hiring a musician or an artist, but that would all come out of my own pocket. Currently things such as sound effects and battle animations are ripped. Regardless of what I decide to do this, will never be a commercial game.
This blog entry hits very close to home.

Glad to see this project being worked on, it looks really incredible.
Out of curiosity, have you "ported" this to the Steam version of Rm2k3?
7 or so years ago I thought people would have stopped making serious rm2k3 games or OSes would generally cease it into irrelevancy, but I was wrong. The resurgence of the Steam rerelease really did affirm that you can still make games that matter and people are suddenly coming back to patch up old games or continue what they started. Good luck on your endeavors and may the legend never die.
