A huge milestone!

I’ve realised since I announced the revival of this project back in September, I haven’t really spoken about my progress and where the project actually is. I’ve been the king of vapour ware in the past - The original Collision of Villnoire was a total unfinished mess (if you’re unlucky enough to have it sitting on your hard drive I beg you not to look at it) so it’s not been much of a revival, as it was a complete new project with the same story, characters and ideas.

I’m going the super cliché route now - but I genuinely learnt a lot from the original, and the disaster it was. I’ve kept the skeleton framework but given it a whole new body (I literally sat here for over 10 minutes on that analogy alone, impressive I know). I mostly can only spend weekends making this game, but since I’ve announced this project I have worked every single weekend without fail and because of that I’m happy to state I have completed every single map in the game! Yes, you heard correctly - every town, every dungeon, every quaint little item shop and every nook and cranny. Every developer that finishes a game has this moment and it's the first time I'm experiencing it.

I’ve been a sensible boy this time around and I’ve mapped every area in a chronological order (at times it was pure hell) and today I was able to complete the final dungeon. I did remake 3 of the dungeons since September but I’m now in a position where I’m happy with how each area plays out. I won’t lie, there’s still a lot to do - but for me, it’s a massive milestone.

There are 19 areas in the game and I’m hoping for a 10 hour playtime, but I’m not sure if that’s overly ambitious so it may more around the 8 hour mark. The main point of this blog is to say “I’m here and I’m working every weekend ticking things off one at a time”. I’ve never been in this situation before and frankly I’m feeling very confident you’ll see something this year. Thanks so much for sticking with me, I know it’s hard to keep interest when I’ve shown so little but trust me, good things are coming.

As a thanks for reading, here’s a sneak peak (early sketch) at the new title screen my fantastic artist Trevor McAleese is working on, and of course Clayton Stroup my musician is toiling away at the soundtrack as we speak. I will update the OST page shortly! Love you all.

I admire your dedication. It's very easy to get sidetracked while a making a game, and that's especially true for a passion project. Keep up the good work!

Ah, thank you so much. It's taken me a very long time to get to this point, as cheesy as this is; giving up just isn't an option anymore haha. This project hasn't felt like hard work in a long time - once I got over that hurdle it's been plain sailing. We all have it in us, so don't doubt yourself either.

Also, no where else to mention this but I'm incredibly grateful to get a spotlight this month. It's both humbling and inspiring and really unexpected!

...okay time to stop talking like I've just won a Grammy.

Hell yes dude, very nice to see you making steady progress! I can honestly say I've been looking forward to updates for this game, and I can see that I may not have to wait much longer. Keep up the good work :)

Ah, thank you so much! I still have plenty to do, so hopefully I didn't make a release sound imminent, but mapping is one of the biggest things that has halted my progress in the past. Having it out of the way is a huge relief (even though I often enjoy it).

Unless I get negative feedback, I hopefully won't have to remake any dungeons or maps again (dungeon design is a weak point of mine).

There's no way I'm going to let you beat me to the punch.

Haha I did wonder if you'd notice that!

Thanks for all the comments everyone, I appreciate every word.

Congrats on completing all the maps and even more so (in my eyes at least) on the consistent progress! I look forward to the finished product.
