Welcome to ALTER LEGEND.

A tragic accident turns into a source of power. After a massive slaughter of an entire city, at the hands of an elusive titan, the survivors realize they can channel the spirits of the dead. The spirits take shape as monsters, as magic, and as chaos. Join Alek in a struggle to to find out why the great beast Igara, a once peaceful beast, would suddenly rampage, killing thousands.
Explore a massive world in a free roam system that still very much pushes a thick and juicy plot. Choose to sell old gear, or synthesize them into new powerful weapons. Explore dungeons, forests, castles, churches, temples and the depths of your own damn backpack as this game caters to those who like the grind and collect, just as much as it does to those who like to avoid that kind of thing and just soak in a beautiful immersion plot. Challenge yourself with quicktime combos that make skill a bigger factor then level, but still gain experience to multiply the power of that same skill your momma gave you! Not everything is as it seems in Alter Legends. Friends are foes, where foes are friends and the world is constantly changing to continuously bring new game play to the the table. We may have bit off more than we can chew, making this game, but by god were going to finish it, and give it to you for free.
Welcome to Alter Legend, and may your stay be increasingly epic.

(disclaimer**)

Yes there are some minor graphical bugs here and there, but this game is about as polished as it's going to get (not including game breaking bugs.)

I made this game to practice and learn. It's served it's purpose but It's time for me to start clean with all that I have learned. I'm looking forward to bringing you completely polished and professional work in the future, however, when i started this game, I had no idea what I was doing, and the frame work I built it upon has become very very limiting to me. I hope you guys can enjoy it as it is, she is my first child :P Cheers guys.

The Long Long Road.

So I am back from vacation and the first thing I did was PLOW through a mountain of let's plays of my game. ( I put it up privately on another site for lets players to beta test for me).

Now before I go on I need to state this. Alter Legend is my very first full length project and I only made it to practice and learn rpg maker.

I made it in VX and with the release of ACE my engine has become obsolete. Not to mention when I started the project, I had NO IDEA WHAT I WAS DOING, so this game is built on a really shitty frame work that would be far too much work to fix, so there are a lot of non game breaking kwirks that I never plan on fixing.

why will I not fix these bugs? Because I have learned all I wanted to learn from Alter Legend, it has served it's purpose. I want so badly to start on a fresh project with nice neat, clean ground work, where I can apply all my new good habits from the start.

there is a general consensus that the game is too hard. It's painful to watch as most people struggle because of terrible decision making... whether it's from not taking the time to look for the chests i scattered EVERYWHERE, or if its from not bothering to read the dialogue and then getting lost. Or some people that spam the chain attacks and never use spells at all. I do not blame the players though, How can I? A game is fun, or it isn't I need to investigate how to overcome different players and their different skill sets.

SO, that being said, I will be nurfing monster HP and the damage from certain spells. I will be making it so certain monsters don't respawn, especially monsters in puzzle areas.

I will be increasing the money dropped from killed creatures, and will make edits to certain quests to make things more obvious.

Eventually I will add more content to Mekana city. I will add more side quests, and will drastically expand the relationship system which in the current build is basically unused.

After these changes the game will go into hiatus while I work on a Commercial project with Galv. Alter Legend will be revisited from time to time to not only add to the story and provide more hours of gameplay, but will also slowly polish the game over time.

I want to thank everyone for your interest in the past year and a half of development. I want to thank all my lets players for putting themselves through hell playing my terribly inbalanced game in it's current build lmfao... those videos were hard to watch! And I want to thank Galv and my girlfriend for putting up with me for all this time :D I'm not an easy guy to deal with ^^

Sit tight, the final build of Alter Legend will be up in the next few days :)

For now I can complain a bit about battle system: hitting Action is meh, but is bearable, but the very annoying thing for me is that I can barely see the gauge! If it was somewhere in the middle and maybe with changed graphics it would encourage people to hit hard. Also, enemies' HP is a bit too high (you require the player to rely on timed button mashing -_- ).

I *love* Arenna's story background (the cliff memory), though! And the expressions...AWESOME!

I got New World.

Okay..? Lol, anyway I was just showing a pic of the Judgement Ring as that's what came to my mind when I first read about the battle system for this game~ :)

I'm glad your liking Arenna's story arch... and I value what you are saying about the combat system. Unfortunately your the first person to dislike it, or atleast admit that they didn't like it. If i get a large group of people telling me to ditch the chain system I will, but for now it's there to stay... Enemy HP is high because if it wasnt, the chain system would be broken. If your completing chains though, the HP isn't bad at all. I can kill a monster in 2 turns.

Thanks for playing! and for feed back! I promise the game will only improve as I continue to put hours into it!
Welp, I managed to play through your game--and I took a few notes of things I like/didn't like.

- I have a huge font problem for this game (Nevermind, I found the fix...but it was still annoying.)

- The save-load screen is a superfluous time waster. Yeah, it's pretty--but time is money 8-D

- In the main menu, the character's sprite goes over the P in MP. It's ugly.

* I like your tutorials :3

- I'm guess "Spirit" is INT. If so, make the INT logo in the main menu SPI, or say Spirit is Intellect/Intelligence.

- The MC starts with armor, so why doesn't Arenna. Is this implying she's naked x(

- First and 'only girl in the demo,' and she's a white mage like? Hmm...I don't like this. Maybe make her a paladin-ish, and give her heavy armor--while still being a main healer. I don't know--I personally hate those cliches xD

* I like how you tell me what stat will increase the effect of a skill.

- But with that said, why doesn't static tell me if STR or INT increases the skill?

* The starting house map is awesome. I like the teleport-shadows.

- When I get outside, the leaves don't start falling until that man finishes talking.

-When the Arenna and the Mako go back inside the house, why do I not see them in there--if I go strait back in?

* I still love the shadows in these maps x3

- At "Mako's Cottage," the teleport to the east has a ugly missing shadow.

- At "Mako's Cottage," the south teleport turns off the tree shadows.

- In the flashback, the city's roof looks pretty crappy. You're a good mapper, so
make that map sexy, too. MmmmKEY 8-0

- lol, "I hate woman." That should be plural.

- The "Rock Face" map is ugly. Might be a good idea to use the shift key more.

* The hidden tunnel is a unique-looking map.

- Next to the southern teleport in "Hidden tunnel," there's a random box floating in the air--like a boss. What the hack is that 0.0

- Going from HT to the Rock Face, the RF map now has the same tint as the tunnels.

- Why does the game tell me I got an item twice? What's the point of showing the icon/name, then telling me I "acquired blah blah blah." Also, I think acquired is spelled wrong--but I'm not too sure.

- So we meet Vance the BADA$$, and the first AND second thing out of his mouth is
"You should touch it."

Oh my~

I'm 95% sure this was all out of context, but with the whole "I hate woman" part--am I to aspect something...naughty 8-3

- I "learn Static," but already had the skill.

- The picture for "Aquired Potion" won't go away.

* I love the hit the target/bar thing with attacks. It's pretty awesome and fun.
Might be hard to balance, though.

- "Your an idiot," should be 'you're an idiot.'

- When I find many items in something, you should put a wait frame in between them. Otherwise, I can move while still picking up items.

- Super awesome Soul Reaver is a "simple wooden club." 8-) Whatever you say, game.

- In the temple chest room, there is a tint problem.

- I feel as though Static is useless. If I combo that shit, it eat my magic like no one's business.

- The guard animation is ugly.

- The fights are too hard for the beginning. I shouldn't feel as though I need to run all the way to the crystal every 2 battles...and I LIKE hard games, so yeah.

- Blackened Surge uses MP, not HP.

- In the key sword room (why the hell is it called that btw,) I can walk on the light.

- The warlord ring is a pretty crappy. +1 to STR 8-| maybe increases the stat by 2 or 3.

- It took me awhile to find the shield event (probably because 1/2 of the text is unreadable.) It might be a good idea to place stars on these types of events. It will lower the chance of someone rage quitting your game.

- There's a chest with "Temple leather." I already got that armor, but w.e

- uhh, Teleporting Magic? What?! Okay, make sure you explain this...otherwise, Vance is creating what I like to call 'Plothole Magic.'
What's next? Vance stealing Alek's heart and teleporting away? (I promise to stop hitting on that dead horse...sooner than later.)

- After shopping with some random man in the woods, he magically disappears--yet will still sell items to me.
That must be an amazing spell for traders xDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

- In the shop, the faceset is ugly.

* The other temple looks sexy.

- It took me awhile to find the temple's east exit(which was to well hidden)...thinking that WAS the way to go, but when I took the next map teleport--it put me in the void. After running around for 10 or so minutes--I...wasn't happy :(

* Relationship? ohhh, well the girl's outta luck. SO SORRY HUN!!! (okay I'll stop for good this time) =^.^=

- There's a part in the western part of the woods that leads nowhere.

* Kenta is badass. I love his sprite <3

Overall, I think this project is promising. It just needs polish.
Also, I wasn't trying to be mean here. I was Just having fun writing all of this ;-)

The Chain System can get a bit imbalanced at times; maybe the damage should be reduced every time. Other than that, it was alright for me. (Reduce the HP in exchange) since technically, we can kill a boss in 1 turn (I'm not too good with timing games haha but some people could)...

I don't think I'll do a full fledged review yet but here are some things I wanted to note:

Battles: Overall, I liked the battles. I wish the first battle wasn't as difficult as it is though. I, as the player, was kind of just thrown into a fight against a fairly high level monster and forced into a near death situation in a pretty tough fight for the first time around where I read of the chain system but didn't really know what's up and yeah.... And then, you shove me into battle with like 6 mimics with no clue where they are, and therefore, little to no preparation. It was a great way for me to get acquainted with chaining (a lot) but really punishing for my first time through. Also, the chain system was alright (most of what I have to say has been already said) but it took away the focus from strategy and the like and just had me staring at my screen and pressing 'z' a lot... I did like the final battle of the first chapter though; basic but at least you incorporated a strategy into the game.

Story/Dialogue: First off, I have to say that, sometimes, the dialogue felt kinda stilted and a little awkward. Not enough to really throw it off, and it's hard to explain but it was kind of awkward. Also, I liked Arenna's backstory scene. It was good but it was a little early in the game. I understand that our main character here has known the girl for a long time but the player hasn't. So, when I start seeing this, I got a character I haven't really warmed up to yet kind of start spilling her heart to me. There's a link between the player and individual characters just as much there is a link between 2 characters and I suggest you keep mindful of that. Otherwise, the expressions, the overall story, the questions flying around were all great; I liked it.

Dungeons/Mapping: The mapping was good and the lighting/fog effects were done really well. I have no complaints. Oh but the Forest Temple was raining when I walked inside the first floor. Might wanna fix that. As for the dungeon though, I felt like there could've been better hints sometimes. Like for the keys in the dungeon, I wandered for a good 5 minutes around the dungeon looking for where to put those things. And the second to last part of the game, the tomb thingy? I didn't know where I could walk through those walls and where I couldn't. Little things like that kind of irk the player.

Overall though I really liked the game. The mapping was done well. The story is intriguing enough to warrant me playing through. The battles are engaging. The graphics are good (nostalgic for an ex-RO player :P) and the music was good (except for some weird transitions between music and RTP music). I liked the game and am looking forward to chapter 2 :)

I agree with Doomed2idie. Everyone's crying while I'm like 8-|
but hey, nothing some more flashbacks couldn't fix.
WOW! looks awesome! But... hmmm... I think a will wait until you finish making the game.

pd: Sorry for my bad english.

All of the bugs you have mentions have already been fixed, as well as the typos. I have a dedicated and talented beta tester :P you start with temple armor and startic, because i had him wearing it and learning it by default for battle tests, other wise, the event that triggers his skill learn hasnt happened and i cant test the balance of static. I just forgot to take it away from him -.- sorry There are a hand full of mistakes, but its only beta. Things will become way more polished by chapter 2! I promise

I want this game to be hard. and the chain attacks balance because everytime you complete a chain it gets harder to complete the next, until it becomes impossible. There WILL be strategy but i needed to introduce 1 thing at at a time. I couldnt introduce the chain system and a million buffs/debuffs all at the same time lol... That would not be cool. Anyway, I promise GREAT things from chapter two!

sorry, I can make a media fire one... I was just using 4shared because media fire wouldnt let me put my game there cus it was too large so i had to use 4 shared... my font is a different story i just never put any thought into it.
Can you limit the chain attacks for normal attacks to, like, 3?
That might make the game more balanced in the beginning.

I promise
Good to hear.
Also, I see you have a completion date. 10/31/2012.
Is that for chapter 2?

No thats for the whole damn thing. Chapter 2 should be about 2 - 3 weeks.

Can you limit the chain attacks for normal attacks to, like, 3?
That might make the game more balanced in the beginning.

I dont want to limit the chain attacks because i found that ALOT of people were getting crazy amounts of enjoyment out of hitting massive chains. trying to beat eachothers records and things. When your killing the meaningless monsters, who cares if you can kill them stupid fast. if your skilled with he chains, you deserve it. When it comes to bosses, I will make sure that it isnt as simple as chain attacking. I promise. Have some faith ;) youve only seen chapter 1
Wow, pretty fast.

I do love me a hard game. Trust me here haha. But well thought out progression is always a goodie. Throwing a player right into the mix with no clue how the game really works isn't a good idea.

I didn't know it gets harder to chain next time... Huh. That explains why I never passed like 8 chains <_<

No I wasn't dissing any lack of strategy yet haha. Like I said, the last battle really showed some promise. It's about 10x more strategy than like 90% of all games right there.

And I am looking forward to chapter 2. This game makes me look forward to it :)

That makes me really pumped. I realise how many typos there are in chapter 1, but treat it as my demo. Since the release of chapter 1 Ive got a really awesome beta tester, and chapter 2 should be pretty bug free, ill get him to test it before I put it up for download. chapter 1, that was not the case, he tested it after i put it up.

Chapter 2 is going to be really enjoyable! I promise, all that setup stuff thats hit or miss is out of the way.
btw, you were talking about the warlord ring... and how its only +1 LOL I had the warlord ring at +3 on vance... and he was hitting WAY to hard. I think maybe ill had an hp buff to the ring as well or maybe mana, but not attack cus you want to see broken chain attacks against chapter 1 enemies, toss on a +3 warlord ring :D
****Download has been removed for patching, as well as the introduction of Chapter 2****
