Welcome to ALTER LEGEND.

A tragic accident turns into a source of power. After a massive slaughter of an entire city, at the hands of an elusive titan, the survivors realize they can channel the spirits of the dead. The spirits take shape as monsters, as magic, and as chaos. Join Alek in a struggle to to find out why the great beast Igara, a once peaceful beast, would suddenly rampage, killing thousands.
Explore a massive world in a free roam system that still very much pushes a thick and juicy plot. Choose to sell old gear, or synthesize them into new powerful weapons. Explore dungeons, forests, castles, churches, temples and the depths of your own damn backpack as this game caters to those who like the grind and collect, just as much as it does to those who like to avoid that kind of thing and just soak in a beautiful immersion plot. Challenge yourself with quicktime combos that make skill a bigger factor then level, but still gain experience to multiply the power of that same skill your momma gave you! Not everything is as it seems in Alter Legends. Friends are foes, where foes are friends and the world is constantly changing to continuously bring new game play to the the table. We may have bit off more than we can chew, making this game, but by god were going to finish it, and give it to you for free.
Welcome to Alter Legend, and may your stay be increasingly epic.

(disclaimer**)

Yes there are some minor graphical bugs here and there, but this game is about as polished as it's going to get (not including game breaking bugs.)

I made this game to practice and learn. It's served it's purpose but It's time for me to start clean with all that I have learned. I'm looking forward to bringing you completely polished and professional work in the future, however, when i started this game, I had no idea what I was doing, and the frame work I built it upon has become very very limiting to me. I hope you guys can enjoy it as it is, she is my first child :P Cheers guys.

The Long Long Road.

So I am back from vacation and the first thing I did was PLOW through a mountain of let's plays of my game. ( I put it up privately on another site for lets players to beta test for me).

Now before I go on I need to state this. Alter Legend is my very first full length project and I only made it to practice and learn rpg maker.

I made it in VX and with the release of ACE my engine has become obsolete. Not to mention when I started the project, I had NO IDEA WHAT I WAS DOING, so this game is built on a really shitty frame work that would be far too much work to fix, so there are a lot of non game breaking kwirks that I never plan on fixing.

why will I not fix these bugs? Because I have learned all I wanted to learn from Alter Legend, it has served it's purpose. I want so badly to start on a fresh project with nice neat, clean ground work, where I can apply all my new good habits from the start.

there is a general consensus that the game is too hard. It's painful to watch as most people struggle because of terrible decision making... whether it's from not taking the time to look for the chests i scattered EVERYWHERE, or if its from not bothering to read the dialogue and then getting lost. Or some people that spam the chain attacks and never use spells at all. I do not blame the players though, How can I? A game is fun, or it isn't I need to investigate how to overcome different players and their different skill sets.

SO, that being said, I will be nurfing monster HP and the damage from certain spells. I will be making it so certain monsters don't respawn, especially monsters in puzzle areas.

I will be increasing the money dropped from killed creatures, and will make edits to certain quests to make things more obvious.

Eventually I will add more content to Mekana city. I will add more side quests, and will drastically expand the relationship system which in the current build is basically unused.

After these changes the game will go into hiatus while I work on a Commercial project with Galv. Alter Legend will be revisited from time to time to not only add to the story and provide more hours of gameplay, but will also slowly polish the game over time.

I want to thank everyone for your interest in the past year and a half of development. I want to thank all my lets players for putting themselves through hell playing my terribly inbalanced game in it's current build lmfao... those videos were hard to watch! And I want to thank Galv and my girlfriend for putting up with me for all this time :D I'm not an easy guy to deal with ^^

Sit tight, the final build of Alter Legend will be up in the next few days :)

Don't worry. Spelling and all that jazz will be fixed up once the project is done. Going to have it proof read several times and beta tested.
That Look great! hope it comes out soon!
I'm working diligently! Parallaxing the way i do takes forever though... I don't do it the best way because its too late for me the change the way i do it -.- Hanzo made a beautiful script that makes parallaxing a dream come true... if only i had started later.
P.s. I'm Curious as to What people are looking for in a game these days? What balance of game play is important to you. visuals vs story vs character development. In what order is it important to you?

Hope to hear back from anyone willing to answer!

I'm randomly dropping by, but this seems an important question.

It really depends on one's strengths. I'm a story guy, so I find that characters and story are pretty central to people liking or disliking what I make. I'm not much of a graphics person, but understand that graphics pull people to a game. I figure, as long as things don't look totally ugly, I should be okay. Gameplay for an RPG usually means exploration and combat, but doing them in a way that feels fresh and/or engaging is where the challenge lies. I'm not too much of a coder either, so making combat feeling fresh might not be possible, but I can at least make it as quick an painless as possible. Well, unless it's a boss fight. The kid gloves can be taken off with those!
good answer, Thank you for responding so quickly :)
I always need a good story and combat to stay in a game. I usually like character development the most.

I have to say what make a good rpg game is originality, story, character interaction, music, gameplay and graphics. A good example is Lufia & the Fortress of Doom its a snes game that I will away remember!

Whenever somebody says "Lufia", I have this tendency to think Lufia 2 - Rise of the Sinistrals. Which was quite mind-nubbingly puzzle-centric for me. Then again, I've set up Word of Xeen-style word puzzles in two of games of mine, and those seem to mess with people's heads. So I probably shouldn't talk about crazy puzzles!

I'm more for a good story rather than graphics. I mean sure, you can have good graphics, but if the story itself is boring..well, it just won't pull you in~ ^o^

Music, and originality aren't really things that over the top important per se, just as long as the music isn't "too" bad, or if you're completely plagiarizing something.

Gameplay is what makes the backbone of a good game I think. The battles should be balanced enough to where they aren't exactly easy enough that you get bored, or so difficult that you end up throwing your controller at your tv, and then pushing it out a window~ B3 Puzzles, and optional content are fun too~ :)
Thanks to everyone who took the time to respond to my question. I'm prioritizing my work based on what was said. So your feed back was very constructive.

Huge battle system update. A new timing feature has been implemented.

A meter is displayed and if you press the button at the right time, you are given an extra melee attack, the meter speeds up after a success, making a third, and fourth success harder and harder. Getting good at this is essential to defeating foes.
Wow that sounds very cool. Keeps every battle interesting to.
Seems like "The Last Remnant" battle system, It's pretty good addition ^.^

From the way it sounds, it reminds me of Shadow Heart's Judgment Ring..though of course it's most likely different~ :)
By the way first Shadow Hearts' OST was kinda awful, makes me want to mute battle theme every time...I missed the whole series even the 3.rd one ._.
