Final Fantasy: Discovery is an RGSS3 learning project aiming to mimic popular Final Fantasy series mechanics and blend them into a single game.

For decades, since the discovery of the Fire Crystal in Palamecia, the nation has been growing increasingly bold, looking to expand their territory and grip over Gaia. Of the five nations that make up the world of Gaia, only the Burmecian kingdom of Figaro has prepared themselves to challenge Palamecia, led by Emperor Vayne...

Fifty years after the Crystal's unearthing, a young girl, Ashe, emerges from where it once slept, claiming to have come from a gateway to other worlds similar to Gaia. She appears with a dire warning; the Crystals of Gaia and many other worlds are in danger. After a chance encounter with Lyra, the Princess of Tycoon, Ashe sets out with her to stabilize Gaia's Crystal of Fire...

A former Palamecian engineer and airship pilot, exiled from his home after an incident in the past, embarks on a mission to infiltrate Palamecia and observe, and if possible, steal the Fire Crystal from Palamecia. What he finds there launches him to join the bigger fight against the Empire...

A stalwart Dragoon, Reeve, from the Burmecian seat of power in Figaro, leaves the kingdom to work alongside Mysidian twins, Wedge and Vicks, on various assignments from the Elder of Mysidia. He hopes to reclaim the honor that the Burmecian Dragoons once held long ago, when his father was a Dragoon under the previous king...

In Figaro, the king's personal bodyguard, Beclem, finds a young female Caller on death's door after a long journey from Aquaria, and takes her under his care. The girl, Ellie, reveals that the Esperkind her people communicate with also feel that many worlds are in danger of utter collapse. They will need to unite the humans and Esperkind once again, as it was in the distant past, to overcome the battles ahead...

Across the mountains, in the Sanubian deserts where the famous Gold Saucer rises from the earth, the leader of a secret spy organization finds information important to Figaro's mission. The time for her to choose a side has come, and Parker, of the Gold Saucer Syndicate, always picks the winning side...

Far to the south, in Ivalice, a civil war is brewing between various political figures, coinciding with the relentless defense of the borders against demons emanating endlessly from a civilization long since destroyed. A young Lionguard trainee, Leon, is tasked with ending Ivalice's plight, allowing the once mighty nation to stand up against Palamecian advances...

In the Bisga Greenlands, home to chocobos, moogles, and people of all kinds, a reclusive hunter watches in horror as the Palamecian war machine marches on her lands. The hunter, Priscilla, vows to put an end to their destruction of Gaia's natural resources...

Deep undercover in Palamecia's military ranks, a rebel soldier who's been fighting the Palamecian Empire almost his entire life is about to bring his organization into the light, for the sake of defeating them. With his custom firearms in hand, Kelger joins the fray...

Final Fantasy Discovery is very much about bringing it all together, both in terms of mechanics and the game's story. I hope you enjoy it.

^ I can quote on that.

Assuredly, this is going to be the best Final Fantasy we'll see since... I dunno... FFVI?
I'd say since FFIX as later games are not so well liked and FFXIII gets too much hate (FFXIII-2 and LR:FXIII: that's why).

Well, I meant in the originality sense... FFIX is also seen as a tribute, and seing Discovery, well... This dude here really understanda what is to do a good tribute.

But I love FFIX, don't get me wrong... Best PSOne FF ever (Tactis being the seconde one).

And man, I LOVE all the FFs. If I had to arrange them in order of liking, right now, it would be like this:

Discovery
VI
IX
X
XII
XIII
XIV
VIII
V
IV
III
VII
II
I

Never played XI, so...
You know, this probably happened a little while back, but I just noticed the demo has over 1,000 downloads. Nice! =)

You've never played this game either... only a demo.

Well, I'm judging the game by the quality of the demo I played and it's developer efforts. Can I not do that? ;D

You rate 12/13/14 over 4/5/7/8? WAT

Just taste.

IV is waaaay overrated. V has a mild decent plot if compared to XII, for example. VII... I won't even begin talking about this game... And I never decently played VIII, so...
So, question.... how complete is this? I started playing it and LOVE IT so far! I am just afraid that I am gonna get super in to it just to have it abruptly end. I can already see myself putting in a lot of hours into this game! Great work so far!
Things are always changing, as they often do during the development process. So, I can't say how complete the game is. I'm continuing to advance the story as much as possible for the next release, because it will most likely be the last release until there is a complete, final version.

If all goes well, I'm hoping to release something new by the end of March.

OK< so a risky diversion-, speaking of FF- would you guys be bothered to see Essence and its lead back on this site?
Also, WC, if you're using the ff6 code, I hope you fixed the Evade bug... and i have ORigins rips if needed.
I didn't use the actual code from FF6, it's just replicated for certain things in this game, such as damage formulas. Evasion works just fine.
b-b-b-but the evasion was broken in FFVI! Man that game was so chock full o bugs, but still so much fun.

if i had an allowance, i would give it to rmn

this is also supposed to replicate all-most final fantasy games
he can't really put in intentional bugs, wouldn't those be like features? "you can pretty much win enemy battle by doing x"
^ Well, casting Ultima, using a fully maxed out dragon's Crest, being rich and using Gil Toss, and summoning Bahamut Fury is one way to really dish out the pain round after round.

yes but you can't really do most of those things until the later part of the game, what i meant was something universal no matter how amazing you are that you could do
regardless, i am filled with anticipation for this game
Theoretically, you could maximize the damage output of Dragon's Crest as soon as you find a dragon-type enemy that can be encountered repeatedly. :P
Played and finished the demo.
The production values truly are top notch, from the menus to the tilesets. I don't know if the tiles are from the FF remakes or another game altogether, but I haven't seen them before and they look nice.

Battle seemed pretty straightforward in terms of replicating a FF experience. I'll admit I never got past the intro in any of the 2D FFs... and haven't personally played any of the 3D ones but from what I've seen of what friends have played it seems to fit pretty well.

The only gripes I have are with the dialog, mainly that of the main character. Sometimes I felt there was a bit too much talking with static character sets and the Main Character went from cursing his father and the events that had happened to seconds later saying "Woo-hoo" like a plumber as he flew away on an airship. That could just be his personality, but it felt a bit off to me.

Anyway, keep up the good work.
Cid's that way, I guess. He doesn't take things very seriously.
