Final Fantasy: Discovery is an RGSS3 learning project aiming to mimic popular Final Fantasy series mechanics and blend them into a single game.

For decades, since the discovery of the Fire Crystal in Palamecia, the nation has been growing increasingly bold, looking to expand their territory and grip over Gaia. Of the five nations that make up the world of Gaia, only the Burmecian kingdom of Figaro has prepared themselves to challenge Palamecia, led by Emperor Vayne...

Fifty years after the Crystal's unearthing, a young girl, Ashe, emerges from where it once slept, claiming to have come from a gateway to other worlds similar to Gaia. She appears with a dire warning; the Crystals of Gaia and many other worlds are in danger. After a chance encounter with Lyra, the Princess of Tycoon, Ashe sets out with her to stabilize Gaia's Crystal of Fire...

A former Palamecian engineer and airship pilot, exiled from his home after an incident in the past, embarks on a mission to infiltrate Palamecia and observe, and if possible, steal the Fire Crystal from Palamecia. What he finds there launches him to join the bigger fight against the Empire...

A stalwart Dragoon, Reeve, from the Burmecian seat of power in Figaro, leaves the kingdom to work alongside Mysidian twins, Wedge and Vicks, on various assignments from the Elder of Mysidia. He hopes to reclaim the honor that the Burmecian Dragoons once held long ago, when his father was a Dragoon under the previous king...

In Figaro, the king's personal bodyguard, Beclem, finds a young female Caller on death's door after a long journey from Aquaria, and takes her under his care. The girl, Ellie, reveals that the Esperkind her people communicate with also feel that many worlds are in danger of utter collapse. They will need to unite the humans and Esperkind once again, as it was in the distant past, to overcome the battles ahead...

Across the mountains, in the Sanubian deserts where the famous Gold Saucer rises from the earth, the leader of a secret spy organization finds information important to Figaro's mission. The time for her to choose a side has come, and Parker, of the Gold Saucer Syndicate, always picks the winning side...

Far to the south, in Ivalice, a civil war is brewing between various political figures, coinciding with the relentless defense of the borders against demons emanating endlessly from a civilization long since destroyed. A young Lionguard trainee, Leon, is tasked with ending Ivalice's plight, allowing the once mighty nation to stand up against Palamecian advances...

In the Bisga Greenlands, home to chocobos, moogles, and people of all kinds, a reclusive hunter watches in horror as the Palamecian war machine marches on her lands. The hunter, Priscilla, vows to put an end to their destruction of Gaia's natural resources...

Deep undercover in Palamecia's military ranks, a rebel soldier who's been fighting the Palamecian Empire almost his entire life is about to bring his organization into the light, for the sake of defeating them. With his custom firearms in hand, Kelger joins the fray...

Final Fantasy Discovery is very much about bringing it all together, both in terms of mechanics and the game's story. I hope you enjoy it.

How's the story of the game coming along? It seems to be the thing you talk
about least of all.

I suppose he has his reasons, like he wants to impress us with a plot. Not like this is something hard considering the likes like Final Fantasy XIII's sequels which are not at all that great plot-wise.

Why would I want to spoil the plot of the game before it's available to be played?

I suppose...I'm also very pleased with the characters. Characters are my favorite part of any game so as long as the characters are good I'm happy.
I was thinking of making a Final Fantasy fan game and noticed you have a lot of tiles and monster sprites. I just thought I would ask 1st if it ok to use any or is it a no go zone? I understand if its a no i just wanted to check before I copied so no one gets mad at me. also what about copying mini games sorry if I made you mad.
Most of the resources in the released versions of the games are rips, so I don't own them. There are resources that Paul or I have made ourselves, though. You'd be better off PM'ing me and asking about specific files included in the game.
You can find all of the monster sprites used in FFD on the Final Fantasy Wikia. I'm sure Noel would have the direct links to them, too.

Some time ago, we managed to get pretty much every enemy and esper sprite from the smartphone release for Final Fantasy VI so you can look here and here. I think they more of pixel art style than those sophisticated FF PSP sprites, but sprites shouldn't clash that much.
Been busy with school starting. So how's the development train been going? Seems like you guys have made a lot of progress in the last few months.

There's been cool stuff afloat.

With that being said, there's still a lot of things that need to be done; graphics-wise especially. It's quite a bit of work for two people... (especially concerning sprites and maps...)

As far as recent tidbits... the Travel Menu system will be getting some minor enhancements. It should help us save a lot of time in the long run and will also help flesh out our game world. Portrait creation is ongoing (as it will be for a long while). And... I've started to experiment with something new and potentially very very cool concerning battles. I can't really elaborate until I've decided whether or not the task is feasible with our current manpower.

Ooh, battle idea? I'm all ears bud!

I'm currently flirting with the idea of seeking out another professional person to commission for sprites. Paul and I can do them, but we both prefer to focus our efforts elsewhere for now, where we're much better suited. Still, we NEED to do sprites soon so I'm gonna see if I can find someone to join us.

More specifically, we're going back and taking a look at the game's initial sequences and areas; not because we're unhappy with them, but because the ideas we have in place for how players move around the world of Gaia requires it. Hope we can show it soon!
hey will future updates allow current saves or no? and when is the next update on the demos? are you waiting for the next RSW or no?
sighs sorry for the multiple posts my computer is being lame

Existing saves will not work on future releases, without a doubt. The release date for our next version hasn't been decided yet.
Just wanted to pop by and see how the state of the project was coming along. Is there anything you're working on that you're particularly excited about.
I think he might be excited about Gold Saucer TBH.
