Dajh - Rebalanced

Today, I decided to take a look at Dajh, and his library of abilities. As your Blue Mage, Dajh has the most versatile ability set in the party, with only Cid coming close behind him with his Tools. Dajh has the honor of being the only character that can cause some of the game's nastier status effects on enemies, like Freeze. What always bothered me about Dajh is his command ability, and what possible upgrades I could make to it.

Dajh's Study command ability serves two purposes: against enemies with Blue Magic that Dajh can learn, it will automatically teach him those skills when Study is used. Secondly, Study causes a hidden status condition on any enemy it is used on (including bosses) which makes that enemy receive 10% more damage from the next party member attack.

MOST players will probably only use it to learn Blue Magic. So, Dajh needed a second command ability upgrade, much like Steal>Mug, Jump>Dive, etc.

Dajh, being a Beastmaster and Blue Mage hybrid, can now use a Paradigm to change Analyze to Poach. Poach works a lot like Morph from Final Fantasy VII, or Eat from Final Fantasy IX. When an enemy is at low HP, Dajh can poach the enemy for one of the items it holds. The enemy will be killed and the item instantly added to the player's inventory.

As far as Blue Magic is concerned, not much will be changed there. Dajh still has a wide array of useful abilities for different situations. He can heal, deal damage, apply status conditions, you name it! Dajh's Paradigms are as versatile as he is, giving him very different perks and skills such as being able to see how much HP enemies have left, auto-healing negative status conditions, or being able to wrangle enemies with his whip (applying Stun) with very high accuracy. More on Dajh's Paradigms at a later date, though!

Protip: A smart team-up would be Wedge and Dajh, since Wedge has access to Graviga and can instantly cut the HP of the enemy target in range for Poach to be successful. =P
That's pretty cool. I think Dajh will be a fixture in the party that make down the road for this game. Can't wait to see what paradigms he has in store too.
I'd say the best party for players looking to treasure hunt would be Cid, Parker, Dajh and Priscilla.

Each of them have abilities that lend themselves well to players who want to increase their item inventories.
Yeah I'm definitely eager to see how Parker's paradigms play a factor as well since she's gonna have a lot of abilities that rely on chance.
I like this idea. Do you think you will make other Paradigims that change the secondary commands of other characters?

Off topic: Do you think there will inevitability be PCs that outclass other PCs? If not, then will each PC have their own gimmicks and abilities that will make them uncomparable to other PCs?
I've been extremely careful not to let characters fall to the wayside in terms of usefulness. ALMOST every character has a Paradigm that changes their command ability.

Cid: Steal to Mug (steal while attacking)
Reeve: Jump to Dive (increased damage + charge time)
Vicks: Blessing to Recover (cure negative status)
Wedge: Focus to Charge (MP recovery)
Dajh: Study to Poach (capture enemies for items)

Just to name a few...
Yeah that's a big deal. With a large cast comes the usuall inevitability of characters going by the wayside( I'm looking at you FF6). I'm glad youre making strides to stop this though. I love switching through characters and mixing and matching. I'll probably end up playing with a set party after a while though. I'm also liking Leon as the Guardian paladin class, I've always loved paladin classes in rpgs.

I did a lot of poaching in FFT (Defenders for everyone!) so this is right up my alley.

Like William said, our goal is to try and make every character balanced out in some way or the other. Naturally, some will be better (to varying degrees) in certain aspects than others, but in the end it should even out. Its my hope that no one gets outclassed.

Me too.
Certain characters excel in some areas over others, for example Vicks and Stiltzkin are the best healers, but Parker and Lyra can hold their own in that department, as well.

Cid doesn't have the highest Attack Power (an honor held by Beclem and Reeve) but some of his Tools can ignore defense, putting him in the same damage-dealing class as them.
