Note: The mist changes shape and opacity as you move around, it can be hard to find your way through at some points (and I threw a few puzzles on the lower floors). This is also the first area where Beclem's ability to smash through weakened walls will come into play.
The Mist Cave connects South Figaro and Cleyra (and an optional low-level challenge area; think Popos Heights in FFIX).

author=WCouillardPopos Heights? What's so special about it? I completed Final Fantasy IX, but can't remember any challenge area there or at Mist Continent at all.

You could battle level 60 Grand Dragons there on disc 1 before you were level 10... and win if you had the right set-up.

Yeah I vaguely recall a ladder leading to a tiny stretch of land surrounded by water and mountains than a small forest with the dragons in them.
I love shit like that. I beat those dragons and trivialized a large part of the game afterwards thanks to it.

Take a wild guess as to which enemy you can encounter in this area in FFD? That's right, Grand Dragons; but they're not as easy to beat here. They have a few specific counterattacks to avoid being Reflect-raped.
Kind of reminds me of the Zertinian (sp) Caverns where there were high leveled enemies compared to the level you were when you accidentally stumbled upon it. I don't know, just seeing that the game has more challenging enemies in the future is awesome and helps motivate me to keep playing.
So if they can't be reflect abused, is there a way of beating them early on? Or are the counter-attacks designed to prevent them from being killed that early?
