What you're seeing here is stacking status conditions at work. Lich can apply Virus to your party members, dropping their stats by 20% with each stack, up to five times. Each time he does, he applies Viral Mutation on himself, increases his stats by 20%, up to five times.

The longer this battle goes on, the worse it gets for YOU.
This better a really good Aeon cus that sounds a little annoying. Cool dynamic though.
Acts like Hades from Final Fantasy VII. Deals damage on all enemies and applies a bunch of bad status conditions.

Now that does sound fun. So are many of the optional aeons gonna have their own dungeons or just show up over the course of the story.

Well, as far as the original FF1 elemental fiends go... You should see the FF1: Dawn of Souls dungeons on the world map... Lifespring Grotto, Hellfire Chasm, Whisperwind Cove and Earthgift Shrine.

Long story short, there's going to be plenty of cool things to fight outside of the main story scattered all over the world.
Optional Aeons will be acquired in many different ways, but the majority are obtained by finding them and defeating them in battle.

Sidebar, just tweaked Lich's patterns up a bit and gave him another test battle. Seemed too easy at first, then got wiped out once he had four stacks of Viral Mutation going, heh.

I like that virus icon. Its very fitting, hah.
I went ahead and renamed this boss from Lich to Hades (might as well keep it uniform with the summon it's based on, no?).

Here's a video test I did today. Without Lyra, I'd have been doomed! DOOMED!

Still tweaking his stats and abilities (and any special counters or targeting aren't implemented here just yet, that comes later). Either way, I had to really stay on my toes during this fight. Almost bit the big one about halfway through, but I made it out alive!

The animations are really coming along nicely. That was the first time I saw the full Leviathan summoning animation and it was pretty friggin' sweet.

I have to commend you on the new status icons, they're looking better than ever.

Leviathan's animation was a lot of work, and I'm still not sure I want to keep it as it is. I had some ideas for making the summon animations flashier but I'll work on those some other time.

I still have dozens more icons to do, too! Most of them are done now, though.

I love this! Perhaps it'd be overkill to give Hades an attack that does increasing damage for the number of status conditions or stacks the target has?
Still tweaking his abilities, but there is a Red Magic spell that does just that (Exploit).


And here's what it's like to go in prepared and not get obliterated with Hades' main form of attack: status conditions.

Yeah, didn't add the large sets for Lyra yet so I had to reassign to avoid crashes.
Gameplay looks freakin' sweet, guy, and your animations are awesome. If you're going to have all four fiends in the game, though, are the other three going to retain their original names? If so, why would Lich be the only one who had his changed (to Hades)?
Archfiends are all in there, and the FF1 Archfiends are the "malformed" ones that Rubicante and Scarmiglione briefly talk about in the last release. All will be explained. Also, Lich's namesake stuff will be explained, too. ^_^
So, it seems how relics were implemented has changed as well. I see in the menu there are only 2 relic slots when in old videos the augments had more slots for offense and defense.
