Nice concept,
I don't really have anything to comment about, jst that bra looks kinda sexist and strange in context of the whole character. I would keep naked tummy and make her roller-neck or something. This way she looks like she forgot part of her costume at home.
And it clearly is inspired by Bayonetta.

She's always been the male fanservice character of the game. When they first started, she had a neckline all the way to her waist with no bra apparently. I'm surprised they're still cranking out designs like these after that last debacle.

What I would recommend is running this by a few women in your personal lives or even here on RMN and get their take on it. It's not to say that you can never have sexual this or that in media, but if it's made by men, it's likely going to be made for men (it's pretty obvious with the massive (each breast is literally the size of her head) and completely exposed bust and midriff). You'd think a gambler would have clothes that contained everything, but I guess this is more a case of "distracting" in order to win? Sounds pretty racy if you ask me.

That was Vicks, and people were concerned that a White Mage would be dressing so provocatively at the time. We agreed and the design was changed. This design of Parker isn't all that different than her previous art in terms of the pose and body measurements, and yes, Parker is one of the most intelligent, strongest female characters in the game. She's also one of the least reserved.

I think the cast of FFD features a ton of strong women. There are eight female party members in the main cast. The only one players have gotten the chance to meet so far is Vicks. Our next release will change that in a big way. For argument's sake, let's talk about Parker for a moment.

She's the richest civilian in the entire world, who uses that wealth to lead the biggest private army in the world. She is one of the characters in the game that almost everyone relies on at some point or another, either for one of her connections or for information. I'd say she has a lot more going for her than the size of her bra.

Let's not assume, by seeing a single piece of artwork, that a character is only in the game for "male fanservice" because she's got more revealing clothing than other female characters. Being comfortable in her own skin is one of Parker's great strengths, it's not what defines her entire character.

More Bayonetta references... I've never played any of the Bayonetta games! :(
Maybe I should now so I can see how my designs keep getting referenced to her... (the glasses?)

There really isn't much a person can infer about a fictional character based on one image. Like William said, there are plenty of facets about Parker's character (and ALL of our characters for that matter) that influence my aesthetic choices when designing character costumes.

Here is the breakdown of how Parker came to be:

1. When I was first hired by William (and before I had the luxury of creating completely original designs), I was given this:

I was told that this person was the owner of the Gold Saucer, which in our game world is more or less equivalent to the FF7 counterpart (and then some!). I was also informed that this character was a Gambler.

So, using this sprite as a base... I gave Parker...
-her glasses
-her fur trim
-her hair color

2. During that time, I did an overall assessment of the female character cast.

I had a quirky teenager, a kid (a trope of her own), an endearing sister type, a strong, stoic and self-reliant warrior and a bratty diva. What was missing, I asked myself?

An adult type femme fatale who could also fill that confident 'oneesan' role.

3. The costume came to be after I determined what Parker's background and personality was. Being the wealthiest person in the world as well as the leader of the world's largest private army makes the character very... larger than life. Taking that into account as well as her Gold Saucer background made opt for a Vegas Showgirl themed outfit that loosely adhered to... guess what?

4. But wait! Where did the hat come from?

Well... if you look at the old sprite... Parker had a scholar/graduation cap. Capitalizing on the Vegas theme, I opted to turn it into my version of stage magician's hat!

5. I then finalized her outfit by...

-Adding more indicators of her wealth (gems, gold trim, etc).
-Giving her cards for her weapon (Final Trump)

As a character designer, I make a conscious effort NOT to be frivolous in my design. I'll admit, that original Vicks design waaaay back in the day was over the top, but it was actually because I literally forgot to add her undergarments before I sent it off for submission (any artist will agree that drawing is often done in layers... chars start naked, and then you add onto their garmets piece by piece). That was my bad.

What I don't care for is ensuring my designs are done in way that will appeal to the lowest common denominator. There's no way I'll be able to please everyone. My primary goal is to ensure that the costumes look appropriate for the character based on their role, their background and their personality; information that no one other William and I are privy to. Which is why when I look at other character designs, I only look at it through the filter of clothing, accessories, color choices and how the aesthetics all blend together. Anything else like utility or psychology (anything that requires context) is not included in my assessment. It's all relative to the game world that the character is from anyway... and viewpoints are always subjective.

And as far as the design being overly sexy to the point of being too racy... I don't think it's any more different from Paine (up above), or...

This
This
Or this?
(That last one is a bit too much for me... simply because I find the design uninspiring... even without context)

Anyhoo... thanks all for your constructive feedback! :)
Simply... wooow. Parker is so pretty! She looks like Amano himself conceptualized her (this conclusion mainly comes from her skirt thingie because it kinda reminds me of Locke TBH).
And what is Cait Sith doing there? Admiring the view? ;)

I can't wait for the demo, even if it takes a decade or seven to come. ;P
Parker looks amazing as always. Setzer was one of my favorite characters in what I call the classic era of Final Fantasy (before the transition to 3D JRPGS) From what I've seen of her in videos like the Magitek Chase sequence, she looks like a character I'm going to enjoy a lot. Is it safe to assume her job class is Gambler?

It is, and she has access to all the classic Gambler abilities, like Slots, Gil Toss, Bribe (in the works), and Dice (formerly a Limit Break; now, a Command ability).
I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing Slots and Dice in action. :) This is my most looked forward to title this year, alongside Persona 5. I'm eagerly awaiting my art. Kudos to you all. It's a huge inspiration to me to keep pushing my own project foward.
You know what they say... "There's nothing new under the sun," eh?

@DaFossa

Good eye! "There's nothing new under the sun" is indeed a fundamental truth!

All of my designs have elements taken from other game concepts/characters/designs. I try to make the final package as original as possible but that was a bit iffy in this case.

Here's the breakdown:

Overall theme: Lady Luck
Overall design (feather top, jewel lace, waist band): See above
Hat: Vegas showgirl (courtesy of Google)
Hair: Original (dating back to 2012)
Pant/Heels: Vogue (google - combination of some pants I saw + some boots)
Epaulets: Naval uniforms (google)
Arm Bangle: FF Wiki equipment
Fur: Original (I use fur a lot)
Emeralds / gold trim: google

Anyhoo, I hope that doesn't throw you off! Usually, if I like something about another design, I'll incorporate it but add a bit of a twist so that its not completely the same. Keep in mind, these are all just small pieces all combined together into a final package. The design process I followed a few posts above is how I determine what kinds of references I look up.
Parallels aside, I do think it's a lovely design. Your dedication and care shows very clearly in your work and I look forward to seeing more in the finished product.

And as for the fur, it is always cool. Always.
