Not bad, not good, not without some charm!

Hello
We the People is a demo, a game that started (from what I've read!) as a funny little thing made between friends, not intended as a big project for the public... anyway I ama glad it was posted here because of some features I'll describe later:

We the People opens with a rather bland menu screen and a not-so-bland music (I can't remmber the source but it sounds familiar and it's particularly catchy). This game is about Bobby, a student that after escaping from an attack to his school of magic, he discovers he's a summoner, and also one from a famous lineage, no less!
He later faces a series of adventures that will let him find friends and enemies. Ok nothing new here, as this usual this means additional party members (like Matt the Cleric, Jacob the Swordsman, Kaleb the... Mad Hatter!) in the first case, and boss fights in the latter.

Oh well, that's nothing wrong, I guess (but usually shouldn't be the victim stay inside the arcane symbol?)

The game is basically about travelling, fighting or avoiding enemies (they are all visible and dodgeable, anyway mind that you need to level up so it's suggested to fight some opponents here and there).

Ok, combat! This is a classical side view battle with nicely animated battlers that in most cases looks like edits. The enemies are too edits, and in some cases totally custom monster. Same goes for the summonable creatures. Oh yes, Bobby is a summoner so he can attack through the monsters he evokes, anyway there are just a couple of them in this demo: a big snake that bites a single opponent and a large ice monster that can unleash a freezing area attack.
The rest of the cast is more "normal" since we have a warrior, a cleric and a sort of wizard.

So far, it's good. There are not many abilities or equippable items (there are just THREE places for items: weapon, armor an accessory/ring) but it's ok since the game is not very long. Nonenthless I appreciated some ideas like the possibility to forge special enhancing rings using the magic seeds and a... simple ring duh!
It's a simple but interesting idea that unfortunately has little space in this demo, anyway good!
Something I did not like was how some items (like the potions) have a clear description about their effects, while others (like oranges and apples) don't! It's a pity since you are supposed to buy them but... hey tell (and remember) me what they do first!!!

Fighting against emo guys armed with razors and... a labcat!

Earlier I wrote about "interesting features". Well this game has some of them, for example there are some nice puzzles and little clever sections like the jumping part during the prologue. Others aren't so complex or interesting, but they are in most cases easy and they give some variety to the dungeons.

Uh... ok the dungeons... hm yeah. Mapping is really mediocre, despite the presence of puzzle and some sections that need to solve some kind of simple task to proceed, most of the maps are really bland and uninteresting. The forest is also a real pain to navigate since you have to find the path through the closed placed trees in order to form a sort of labyrinth. Oh and what about the city with a ton of soldiers that turn around to look at you? So creepy... anyway I am not sure if this all was made on purpouse, I mean to create a "cheesy" parody of the jrpg genre.
It would make sense!

The story isn't much better: Bobby stumbles from an adventure to the other, there's a sort of backstory (find and defeat the EVIL!) anyway for the most part things happens and there's little coherence between the events, anyway being this an incomplete game I cannot judge this too severely. In any case there are funny moments and puns (for example Matt the Cleric is often ridiculed since he's the "useless" cleric that the party don't want, but needs!).

Yes, this game lacks catgirls, and this cannot be forgiven!

The Final Verdict
Well I completed We the People in about 1 hour and 20/30 minutes, and it was for the most part a pleasant experience. While not entertaining, funny or with enough content like some other demos I played, it's still a pleasant classic adventure (even if with a grim cliffhanger ending). Difficulty is medium, and I appreciate many choices (like the jumping puzzle, he possibility to save anywhere, the lack of random encounters and the combat layout and system... classic and well done), while I did not like other aspects but it's clear that you cannot be too harsh with a work that is just half (or less) of the whole adventure.
Still, not bad, enviroments and maps are the only parts that could improve a lot, anyway this is still a decent game if you want to play a classic rpg adventure.
3/5 is my rating this time.
