Lufia V: For the Savior

Over 12 years ago Dekar The Great started working on Lufia V: For The Savior. I've been following his progress since the very start and decided to wait until he'd have a "complete" experience. Last year he finally finished part 1 of Lufia V: For The Savior. Two complete continents to play and for over 10 hours of content. Time to dive in!

I'm very happy I waited this long to play Lufia V for the first time, because I had a blast! During the 10 hours of Part 1 I was amazed by the quality this game A lot of hours were put in this creation, and it shows!

What I particularly liked was the dialogue. I don't know how he did it, but it really feels like a Lufia game. The script has the same kind of care-free adventure, humor and the occasional drama as the original three Lufia games. There was for example a scene with an old guy, who just wants to sleep. You are able to keep bugging him, by knocking on his door. With every new knock you'll get a more hilarious reply, with a fitting conclusion if you keep at it. The setting of the scene was just perfect and could've easily been a part of Lufia II or III (The Legend Returns).

I also enjoyed the beautiful town design, the large dungeons and the clever puzzles. Oh, and that amazing Firebird animation, and the battle animations when you win! That's what makes a Lufia game, and I got all nostalgic when seeing it.

Some downsides have mainly to do with the limitations of RM2K3. There were some action scenes that didn't control very well and the battle ATB was just way too fast for my taste. I would love a "wait" function, so I could play more strategically in battles.

Overall, Deker The Great has found the exact right tone and setting for an authentic Lufia experience. This game is highly recommend for everyone who loved the Lufia games or JPRGs like them. I'm looking forward to part 2, hopefully we don't have to wait another 10 years!
