Crush the Castle - Or succumb to it

Castle Oblivion 3 is a sequel to the series startet by kelarly who made the first two games. I remembered the first to titles to be a tad plain and unpolished, but the third game by luiishu has certainly stepped it up!

Sound
The sound & music in the game fits fairly well. The game is cut up in different floors or "worlds" with different settings. I remember getting a nostalgic feeling when hearing soundtracks from both Rayman and Grandia - Thumbs up! Point is that the developer has managed to find fitting music to the theme of the floor, which definitely is a good quality.

Graphics
The graphics in this game is mostly default RTP, which most people consider a deal breaker including myself - BUT! The mapping done is this game really shows off that a long term game can be enjoyable, even with the default rtp graphics. Yet again the developer manages to create a fitting wibe to the different floors with the limited resources in disposal with the RTP.

Gameplay
Gameplay is pretty forward throughout the game. Get your way through a floor, fight a boss, light a orb in starting zone. When all orbs are lit the way to the endgame is pretty much opened. I spent around 18 hours on my playthrough, which is a pretty long time for an rpg maker game, but the most annoying for me was all the grinding. I grinded a lot. Not only to get through the core game, but also in order to beat the optional bosses, so be prepared! What I'm saying isn't that the game is one long journey of grinding in order to beat the next boss, Castle Oblivion 3 features some neat puzzles which reminded me of Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The characters of the game is an interesting bunch. The protagonist being a naive young explorer eager on life teams up with a Blondie with bad temper and a Surfer fresh out of a boyband!

Story
The story one of Castle Oblivion 3's best features. I don't know if luiishu's interpretation of the story is the same as kelarly, but the story reveals a lot of unanswered questions from the previous games which makes it easier for newer players who haven't tried out the first two games. Without spoiling too much, the story is pretty much young explorer Evan who gets stuck in a forgotten old castle and tries to find his way out. When it's revealed what the castle really is and who's behind the shenanigans, he makes it his personal quest to get rid of it - With help of other characters trapped inside the castle as well.

I believe that Castle Oblivion 3 is definitely an rpg maker game worth trying out, specially if you've played the first two games and seek to get some answers! Apart from the occasional grinding and boring old RTP - This game certainly deserves some praise!

First off, thank you SO much for taking your time to review my game! It really took me off guard when I saw that a review had been written. Overall, I'm glad that you managed to enjoy this game despite some of its flaws. Now for some questions:

You said that you finished the game in 18 hours, right? That is completely insane, dude! No one has ever finished the game that fast as far as I know (including myself). Did you finish the game with the bad or good ending?

I'm really surprised to see that you managed to beat the game this quick. If you really did beat the full game that fast, then there can't possibly have been room for grinding, right? If you beat the game in 18 hours with some optional bosses defeated + spent time grinding...hmm... I'm pretty confused to be honest. xD 18 hours sounds WAY too less from what you've written.

I guess I just got lucky on my first playthrough. Was several boss battles where I had one character left standing managing to get in that last hit. Played it again though, with grinding to manage beating the optional bosses.
Good job man! Did you reach the Oblivion Realm?
