UPDATE released!

The SMEC update is finally released. Please read the changelog for all of the changes and updates! I'm telling you, this update really makes the game feel like a whole new game! Go try it for yourself!

This will probably be the only update for SMEC, there really isn't much more to add... So, I guess as of now, this is where the game stands!

Make sure to go look for the hidden easter eggs, and secrets! There are about 20+ scattered easter eggs in the game. I plan to release where all the easter eggs in the not-so distant future.

Enjoy the game!

I played through the first few levels or so. And I think I can see what that year in development was spent on. The levels are all, graphically and aesthetically, extremely impressive and gorgeous to look at, but the actual meat and potatoes within each level seems to be lacking a bit to me.

All of the levels are a pretty good length for what seems to be a 20 or so level game. But a lot of the content came across to me a bit like filler: there's not a whole lot to some of them save for stretches of land filled with enemies. Although that could be because it was just the earlier worlds.

But if there's one suggestion that I can give that I strongly push, it would be to put more powerups in the levels. Its possible to have a level with few powerups so the player has to struggle a bit, but the levels clearly aren't designed around that! The ratio of enemies to powerups, and level length, don't mesh properly. So only sticking a max of 2 powerups total in a long level with lots of enemies on moving platforms isn't really a good idea. Easily fixed by sprinkling some more in there.

Plus I think there might be a bug with the level doors: I had about 9-ish or so stars but the next level told me a I needed one more to enter. I went and triple-checked all the levels I'd been to previously and I definitely got them all. So go make sure that you did your math right. I really like the potential of this game and think it could be really really good. I may give it another go in the future.

Do you have the SMBX engine installed? If it doesn't come with the game, then you need to do a search for it and download that to play.
I havent finished this yet, but its NOT looking good.

Some of the green stars are in very obscure locations. I still dont know how to get the green star in that ghost level seen in the screenshots, its behind these gray walls and theres no indication on how to get past them. Some platforms in that same ghost level despawn for whatever reason, forcing me to suicide and restart the level. There are also several times where I immediately get hit when exiting a pipe, which is a big nono when making a mario level. There should never be spots where u cannot avoid getting hit as small mario, I think everyone agrees with this. I will try to finish this, but in all likelihood I will not try to get all 40 stars.

EDIT: Got as far as the rainbow road level. Didnt feel like completing it because i dunno how to get the 2 stars I missed since both of them were behind gray walls, and i need both to access the next level.
