Blackmoon Prophecy is now the #1 most viewed game of all time on RMN. Thanks to all of you for the views over the years, I appreciate it!
______________________________________________________

Do not edit the game without first applying the David patch. This is because some monsters have over 1000 attack/magic and 100,000+ HP. Editing without the David patch will reduce monster stats to rm2k3's default maximum values. Ignore this warning if you already have applied the David patch to your rm2k3.

What is Blackmoon Prophecy?
A Final Fantasy fangame that I started long ago in 2003 that is meant to emulate the first six entries of the series (though I mostly focus on FF4 and FF5 for gameplay and mapping, and FF6 for battle aesthetics). Aside from just being a fangame, Blackmoon Prophecy is also a tribute to Final Fantasy in the sense that I'm trying to put together many of the things I loved about playing RPGs growing up into this game. It's a love letter to retro gaming and our childhoods.

What's with this whole "Plus" deal?
The Plus! update adds DynRPG support by including several patches made using it such as faster ATB bars, a play time counter on the menu, and more. Additional content in the game includes a new section to the arena, a new optional dungeon, a few reworked cutscenes, and various bug fixes.

How long is the game?
My best guess is about twenty hours, but I'm not 100% sure. My testing sessions were broken up very often so I can't measure how long it took me to beat the game personally. I'm certain that it was over 15 hours though, and since I made the game I expect the average time to be higher than that for everyone else. My best guess is 20+ hours.

Do I need the RTP to play?
Heck no!

Are there any impressive custom systems, impressive features, etc?
Long story short, no. The early Final Fantasy titles were not known to blow our minds with amazing features (FF3 and FF5 were really the only ones that did in my opinion, and only because of their job systems).

There is no steal command, "throw" items are selected by going to items and choosing the item to throw, and "jump" isn't a command, but rather several different abilities that have jumping animations.

As a result, Blackmoon Prophecy is just a retro romp that just tries to recreate what we all used to feel as we'd trudge through all of the caves and dungeons of the early Final Fantasy games.

The most advanced aspect of Blackmoon Prophecy's gameplay is a simplified version of Final Fantasy 8's weapon upgrading system. A few minigames can possibly be included as well (auction house, betting on chocobo races, etc.) but this game is kept simple to emulate the simple games it is inspired by.

How many <insert something here> are there in this game?
Permanent Playable Characters: 12 (3 being optional/secret)
Temporary Playable Characters: 2
Equippable Items: 150+
Mandatory Dungeons: 30+
Monsters: 400+
Playable Hours: 20-30 hours (presumably)
Optional Dungeons: 10+
Towns: 20+
World Maps: 3

December 2024 Update: This game was completed over 12 years ago. It is from a different time in my life, and I do NOT support the game any longer or offer any assistance/help any longer so please do not come to me for any. Having completed the game more than a full decade ago, I just honestly don't remember very much from the game and any assistance I would offer would not be very helpful. Plus, twelve years later, I just have no interest in the Blackmoon Prophecy games and have moved on from them fully. Please reference user-made documents/manuals, YouTube playthroughs, or the help page here on RMN if you need any assistance.

Blackmoon Prophecy 1.24 Update

I vaguely hinted that I was trying to work on a Blackmoon Prophecy "remaster" of sorts. I instead scaled back what I wanted to do because I didn't want it to take too long, so the remaster has instead been downscaled to a regular update. Here's what in the update:

Version 1.24
- Added a new path through the mountains west of the Mohadmal Pyramid as a secondary way to reach Mohadmal Dock.
- Added additional treasure chests in areas where I thought they were needed.
- Added an NPC in Garamonde who will give the player a new weapon in exchange for a Sunstone (it's somewhere in Sunleth Waterscape).
- Added an option to skip the intro sequence for returning players.
- Added optional boss: Nitemare. He can be found in a purple pot in the final dungeon and requires a bloodstone to draw out.
- Added optional boss: Vertumnus. Takes Yemaja's place in the Everlasting Tangle when the final dungeon becomes available.
- Corrected text in a lot of chest pop-ups as the text for some chests did not reflect what was actually inside due to many item renames over the years.
- Edited the names of many items to better reflect what they are (ie. "Broad" is now "Broadsword").
- Finally remembered to edit the version number in the game window's title! It was still saying version 1.21 prior to this update.
- Fixed a few typos.
- Minor tweaking of the stats of a few bosses.
- Renamed several skill names (ie. Frenzied Lancer is now Dragonstrike, Syphon Spear is now Lancer, and so forth).
- Removed Dragon's Courage, Dragon's Devotion, and Dragon's Resolve from Vahn's ability list.
- Tightened up corridors on several maps and cleaned up/redid some areas that I thought looked subpar.

As usual, you can find the updated version of the game in the downloads.

Final note, this does not change the overall experience of the game and is mostly just a QoL update (the new bosses were added on a whim at the last minute). If you were not a fan of Blackmoon Prophecy before, this update won't change that.

Hey there kenlan. Hans is located in Darnecles Castle, which is directly south of the Rift Shrine.
Oh,thanks UPRC.Now things start to moving again.Maybe i can take it here:in Blackmoon p 2 it should be an description of what the things youre buying do.When you are in the shop and scrolling its just the names now.For example in Dawnmarch you can by ankarlet but no description. If it is against poison, stun or else..Im coming back to the right page with that.

Yeah, that's the shop script I have in place. I'm looking to change it.
Greetings! I just wanted to say this is one of the most enjoyable FF Fangames I have played.

I also have a problem.

I have made it so far in the game, but I am missing a character. Where is Siegfried? I am almost at the end of the game, and I've found all characters besides him. Can someone help me?
UPRC
Exciting, but ultimately pointless.

Siegfried is in a cave called Vulgate to the southwest of Darnecles Castle. You'll need a chocobo to reach it.
Hi UPRC. I love your game so much and i have one request. Please don't think i'm stupid but my Windows had removed Mp3 codec, so the only way to hear music in game is convert to midi. The quality is not bad and much smaller size than mp3 files, which up to hundred of MB.
I know you no longer interested this game anymore, but please look into my request and consider the creation of Midi music pack for Blackmoon Prophecy. There are many sites to download FF midi: http://www.midishack.net/ffmidi.htm and more.. Please think about it UPRC. Thanks so much for your work!

IIRC earlier versions of the game had majority of tracks in MIDI format, but as for the latest version the author opted out for MP3 format for a high quality sound.

Try using the Original Blackmoon Prophecy (Pre-Plus Patch) which should contain most music in MIDI format (I think that the original had few MP3 tracks anyway).
Thank you so much! Finally found him.
Just one more question (if anyone can help,I'd highly appreciate it)...what exactly am I supposed to do after reaching past the Tower of Babil? I fought a few (mini?)bosses, went through four of those warp panels, but there seems to be a way to activate one that's way at the bottom that I can't seem to activate...? Nevermind,I found it! Right at the lower left corner beyond the savepoint.
I used the rift transporter on Kaipo island and somehow hopped on my chocobo at the same time, bringing my chocobo inside of the rift transporter. I hopped back on it and tried to exit but it told me to disembark from the chocobo first. Did that, then I was stuck on the island. Luckily I saved right before all of this happened, otherwise I would have had to suicide to cactuars.

Note if that does happen and you save inside the rift transporter, you will ultimately be stuck and have to restart the game.

Other than that, fun game so far.
Hello there, I have a question concerning the rewriting of the dialogues, whether it will be completed anytime soon. As in a month or two. I tried playing this game before, but stopped shortly after cos the writing just put me off. But since most people say how good this game eventually is, I would love playing it, but would be a shame to do it just before you add the refined dialogues.

Exciting, but ultimately pointless.

No, I'm not doing any work on this game. I'm only working on the sequel at the moment.
Alright, thanks for the fast answer, I'll go ahead and play it :)
Hi,

Just want to say how amazing this game is, and how much I enjoy playing it.

Now I have a question. Why is Mt. Ordeals is not available to me?

P.S. Godot has Demi skill, but during battle it's not available.
Where on the map is Genesis Obelisk?
UPRC
Exciting, but ultimately pointless.

How far into the game are you? It was intended to be removed from the final world map, so that could be why.
I try not to ask too many questions, I read the blog, look over all maps and help section. Also if I'm stuck I refer to LP. I've seen UMBRA's LP where he went to Mt. Ordeals on 3rd World map.

I'm on the 3rd world map, defeated Sekhmet, Yemaja, Cagnazzo, Rubicant, Valvalis, and just got Omicron.
Now trying to do some optional bosses, for Vera summons and such.

In order to get Omega Weapon

Shinryu, the Herald of Omega, must first be defeated in the Genesis Obelisk. After defeating Shinryu, Omega can be located in the Ancient Castle.

And in order to get Diamond Weapon

In order to fight Diamond Weapon, you must first defeat Omega. After doing so, travel to Darnecles Castle and speak with King Vale. He will inform you that a tunnel has opened in the desert outside of the castle and that a terrible monster lives inside. Head out to the desert, stand on the hole, and you will initiate a fight with Diamond Weapon.

Are the weapons obtained in Mt. Ordeals even worth it at this point?

From what I remember are either powerful Rank II weapons or weak Rank III weapons, so no.
Thanks Noel.

By any chance do you remember where on the map is Genesis Obelisk?
UPRC
Exciting, but ultimately pointless.

Genesis Obelisk isn't on the world map. ;)

So where is Shinryu, the Herald of Omega?
