Blackmoon Prophecy is now the #1 most viewed game of all time on RMN. Thanks to all of you for the views over the years, I appreciate it!
______________________________________________________

Do not edit the game without first applying the David patch. This is because some monsters have over 1000 attack/magic and 100,000+ HP. Editing without the David patch will reduce monster stats to rm2k3's default maximum values. Ignore this warning if you already have applied the David patch to your rm2k3.

What is Blackmoon Prophecy?
A Final Fantasy fangame that I started long ago in 2003 that is meant to emulate the first six entries of the series (though I mostly focus on FF4 and FF5 for gameplay and mapping, and FF6 for battle aesthetics). Aside from just being a fangame, Blackmoon Prophecy is also a tribute to Final Fantasy in the sense that I'm trying to put together many of the things I loved about playing RPGs growing up into this game. It's a love letter to retro gaming and our childhoods.

What's with this whole "Plus" deal?
The Plus! update adds DynRPG support by including several patches made using it such as faster ATB bars, a play time counter on the menu, and more. Additional content in the game includes a new section to the arena, a new optional dungeon, a few reworked cutscenes, and various bug fixes.

How long is the game?
My best guess is about twenty hours, but I'm not 100% sure. My testing sessions were broken up very often so I can't measure how long it took me to beat the game personally. I'm certain that it was over 15 hours though, and since I made the game I expect the average time to be higher than that for everyone else. My best guess is 20+ hours.

Do I need the RTP to play?
Heck no!

Are there any impressive custom systems, impressive features, etc?
Long story short, no. The early Final Fantasy titles were not known to blow our minds with amazing features (FF3 and FF5 were really the only ones that did in my opinion, and only because of their job systems).

There is no steal command, "throw" items are selected by going to items and choosing the item to throw, and "jump" isn't a command, but rather several different abilities that have jumping animations.

As a result, Blackmoon Prophecy is just a retro romp that just tries to recreate what we all used to feel as we'd trudge through all of the caves and dungeons of the early Final Fantasy games.

The most advanced aspect of Blackmoon Prophecy's gameplay is a simplified version of Final Fantasy 8's weapon upgrading system. A few minigames can possibly be included as well (auction house, betting on chocobo races, etc.) but this game is kept simple to emulate the simple games it is inspired by.

How many <insert something here> are there in this game?
Permanent Playable Characters: 12 (3 being optional/secret)
Temporary Playable Characters: 2
Equippable Items: 150+
Mandatory Dungeons: 30+
Monsters: 400+
Playable Hours: 20-30 hours (presumably)
Optional Dungeons: 10+
Towns: 20+
World Maps: 3

Blackmoon Prophecy 1.24 Update

I vaguely hinted that I was trying to work on a Blackmoon Prophecy "remaster" of sorts. I instead scaled back what I wanted to do because I didn't want it to take too long, so the remaster has instead been downscaled to a regular update. Here's what in the update:

Version 1.24
- Added a new path through the mountains west of the Mohadmal Pyramid as a secondary way to reach Mohadmal Dock.
- Added additional treasure chests in areas where I thought they were needed.
- Added an NPC in Garamonde who will give the player a new weapon in exchange for a Sunstone (it's somewhere in Sunleth Waterscape).
- Added an option to skip the intro sequence for returning players.
- Added optional boss: Nitemare. He can be found in a purple pot in the final dungeon and requires a bloodstone to draw out.
- Added optional boss: Vertumnus. Takes Yemaja's place in the Everlasting Tangle when the final dungeon becomes available.
- Corrected text in a lot of chest pop-ups as the text for some chests did not reflect what was actually inside due to many item renames over the years.
- Edited the names of many items to better reflect what they are (ie. "Broad" is now "Broadsword").
- Finally remembered to edit the version number in the game window's title! It was still saying version 1.21 prior to this update.
- Fixed a few typos.
- Minor tweaking of the stats of a few bosses.
- Renamed several skill names (ie. Frenzied Lancer is now Dragonstrike, Syphon Spear is now Lancer, and so forth).
- Removed Dragon's Courage, Dragon's Devotion, and Dragon's Resolve from Vahn's ability list.
- Tightened up corridors on several maps and cleaned up/redid some areas that I thought looked subpar.

As usual, you can find the updated version of the game in the downloads.

Final note, this does not change the overall experience of the game and is mostly just a QoL update (the new bosses were added on a whim at the last minute). If you were not a fan of Blackmoon Prophecy before, this update won't change that.

I am a very big fan of yours. I myself dabbled in Rpgmaker gamesa long time ago and I can appreciate the hard work.and dedication put in here. I myself like the older roots.of FF.then the new direction they have gone its very nice to know some others have that same passion. Played Blackmoon Prophecy on and off for about a year. Thank you for this gem.

I have decided that Blackmoon Prophecy will no longer be supported or updated in any form. The game had a good run and I enjoyed working on it over the years, but after having it as a part of my life for so many years and having been completed nearly a decade ago now, I wish to move on. So, there will be no further updates, bug fixes, and so forth going forward. I will always be open to receiving feedback as it helps me with newer projects, but I am officially done touching this game in any form going forward.

God I hope that came out well, I'm using text-to-speech on my phone.
Has anyone made a walkthrough of this game? And of BMP II?

Very understandable (especially with what happened with Blackmoon Prophecy III recently). You’ve done more than enough to fix up any remaining issues and bugs over the years that it’s time for you to move on to bigger and better things. Usually most developers around here would fix up a couple of things, like any major game-breaking issues or glitches, maybe even add a new feature or two along the way and then call it a day, but you really went above and beyond what most do developers do and I applaud that type of dedication, especially over that many years. Heck, I even think that you’ve done more than what Square-Enix has done on a couple of their own projects. Either way, this is totally understandable.

(Although, you should probably mention this in a blog post to not only receive some of that sweet, sweet makerscore, but to also to get the word out too.)

Oh yeah, I definitely plan on it.
I'm going to try this game again. I don't even remember why I stopped playing it last time.
Oh. Really sorry to hear about what happened to Blackmoon Prophecy 3. I was looking forward to trying it out!

Also sorry my last comment on this game might have come off a little harsh? In the final blog post, it might be worth mentioning that you're aware the earliest parts of the game are a little unbalanced, but that things even out by Lenadia? It might reassure anyone willing to give the game a try, but put off by the first few hours.
I know the game is old but i wanted to say a few things. (And i know you are no longer working on the game just a few pointers for any new games you make)
1.Over all so far a fun game.
2.Some of the main issues i had with this game is i really wish there was a encounter rate item that got rid of encounters the rate is very high and can get on my nerves if you make a new game maybe think about adding a early game item to help with this?
3.The exp rates seem kind of low to the point a used xpadder to grind in the back ground for a few levels do to....
4 The game is a little on the hard side only 5 hours in but some of the bosses are able to one hit KO even tank like party members if you don't grind some and like i said exp rate seems a little low so yeah.
However that being said if things keep going this way i thing i will give this game 4 stars fun but not great.
Ok so i got to ask does anyone know what the magic stat does in this game magic damage does not seem to go higher even if you really try and boost magic.

Because of the way RPG Maker 2003 is set up, the magic stat needs to be increased drastically for it to have meaningful gains.

Oh i see shame so no real point in using any of the magic based gear i find then?
Truth be told i kind of wish the maker of this game would have just made other items for mages then like items that only they can put on that up MP or recover mp or lower mp cost that kind of stuff since magic stat can't be used.

Just noticed you are the dev HA opps anyway I found a bug that let's me get free items from the treasure bag guy that you unlock if you find all the treasure seems he does not take 5000 gold each time.
I mean i guess since you are no longer working on the game that means free items :)

Oh well, haha. All games have their exploits so enjoy that one!
1. Where did I get this chalice from?

2. Filled it with water at Mt Mysidia, what is it for?

Exciting, but ultimately pointless.

You need to pour the water in the chalice on a peculiar looking rock formation on the same map. Opens a chest or aomething, been years so I forget exactly what it gives you.
Hmmm, how come sometimes when a character gets KOed, when I revive them, they cannot move anymore? Thier ATB fills, but they remain unusable?
Hi UPRC I saw your blogspot of your game Final Fantasy Blackmoon Prophecy and I heard your winrar no longer supported it. Your game is still playable only by extraction to Winzip folder so just let anyone know your game can still be played. I played 21 minitues of it and it is really good by the quality of the graphics, story and gameplay. I wish you good luck into remaking it. Have a nice day UPRC!

It's an RPG Maker bug, I can't help it.

??????

WinRAR has never not been supported. The current download is even a rar archive. I'm not sure what you're saying, haha.
