Announcement

Change in Staff Body

As you may have known, Sayako has been put on a sudden hiatus for the last couple of months, and there was never any official announcement from us.

Firstly, we apologize for the sudden disappearance. Things were going rather harshly for everyone in the team in the last couple of months: life, work, relationships, everything. And secondly, I want to take this chance to announce a change in the Staff Body of Sayako's Development Team.

I am sad to announce that due to circumstances, our friend Elements can no longer stay in the development team of Sayako. As for the reason why, unfortunately I won't be able to disclose.

His leaving is a rather big blow to the team, but we'll hang in there with what we have and find some other ways to fill in the roles Elements left. I know we kept saying this all the time, but again, Sayako will not be cancelled and will likely undergo a major revamp this summer. This time, I'm in full charge.

Again, I sincerely apologize for disappointing you guys with yet another negative announcement, instead of something nice and cool to congratulate us finally reaching the 100 subscriptions mark. Hope you'll have a great day!

Progress Report

EvilEagles Does Blogpost

So to ensure you guys that we weren't bullshitting just to get fake publicity, and that we're still working hard for the comeback of this precious gem Sayako, here's some updates.

Elements has been the most hard-working member of the team in terms of game development, as he has been involved in quite a number of projects at the same time, which is what I could never really pull off due to several reasons (but mostly it's just me being single-task oriented aka lazy). So mad props to him on that. For Sayako, he's been going back to revise Sayako's plot and dialogue, planning map layouts and lighting, as well as preparing assets in the digital art department.

Yuri looks so fancy and pretty >_>; I'm seriously getting a crush on her at this rate. Wayne always ditches her for sexy doors anyway

As you can see, comparing to the previous version which was shown in our last update, Yuri is much livelier and prettier now as Elements has improved the color renditions significantly. We're aware that this has made Wayne look much paler than he was, and Elements is getting on it, so worry not. Also, all characters in Sayako will be getting different facial expressions too~

Another thing he made recently that I'm glad he did and I can show off in a blogpost, is this background illustration of our horrifyingly haunted Ancora Hills Sanatorium. This background illustration will be used in our introductory narrative.

Needless to say, the colors are done marvelously as well in this one and I love it. Many thanks to Scinaya for helping Elements and the rest of us on this one.

A distant look at Ancora Hills Sanatorium, the actual setting of the game. The abandoned Sanatorium where the events of Sayako unfold.
Operational for 40 years, the Ancora Hills sanatorium served a vast number of patients while it remained operational, however, the reputation of said institution saw itself tarnished during the later run of its life, with varied reports of patient mistreatment and covered up negligence. The highly controversial case of Sayako Noguchi would become the last, yet greatest black stain on the records, right before the scheduled closure and decommission of the facility.

Today, surrounded by nature, the intimidating structure still stands and remains largely abandoned, becoming an object of urban legends and vandalism.

As for me, I've been revamping the entire Sayako tileset. And by revamping, I mean redoing (because I am dumb I dunno the actual meaning of the word 'revamp'). So here are a couple of sneak peeks into the work-in-progress tileset. They haven't been loaded into the actual sheets yet so I can't really make concrete in-game screenshots with these tiles put together yet. My apologies.

There are actually a lot more that have been done but they are all sort of random and I couldn't really slap them together to make a picture that would actually make sense lol.

It's been forever since I last actually wrote something worthwhile. It's getting me kinda excited all of a sudden.

------------------------------------

In other news guys, RPG Maker DS+ Resource Pack is getting out in the RMW Store soon. Archeia_Nessiah has been working really hard on the epic trailer for it that I'm fairly certain will blow all your minds once it's up. So, please go and tweet her some encouraging words.

Sayako Dev Journal #2

This project is not dead.
This project isn't forgotten.

This project is very much alive!

EE and I have had a busy year so far, but we're now putting the summer to use, and hopefully, do everything that is left to be done regarding sayako.
Between today and yesterday, I got around to finishing the portraits which will be utilized in the game, in the screenshot above you can see how they'll look in-game, as well as the latest iteration of our menu.

An extreme shoutout to my awesome friend Scinaya for all her tips regarding anatomy, color and other drawing quirks lately. For the sake of speed and efficiency, the poses were roughly extracted from RTP portraits but all the details(along heavy changes to the poses themselves) pretty much had to be drawn from scratch. When it came to coloring, we were not aiming to retain the colorful RTP look, but rather something which looked grittier.

We're extremely grateful to all of you who have subbed, means a lot to us!
Stay tuned for more updates~

Whisper of death

Hello people!
A lot has happened since the creation of this landing page for the game, so I'll utilize this blog entry to talk about every relevant update which has taken place in the past 4 months version.

TL;DR version:
After an extremely busy period, Sayako's revamping has finally started.

Just for a quick memory refresh...Sayako. A survival horror game originally developed for the Mysterious August contest, though more than a horror game trying to scare the player, Sayako at its core is a game which tells the story of 3 friends, and how a tragic turnout of events changes their perception of life and the world.

Heavy exploration, dynamically generated encounters,a myriad of systems designed to make exploration interesting, puzzles, and a completely custom tileset created by EvilEagles, Sayako has always been a project both EE and I have been meaning to revamp ever since we first released it for that contest.

Back then we actually spent most of August planning and being busy with school, with EE working on the tileset, and me being focused on ideas for the game and rough implementations of them.

In a dramatic last week before the deadline, we managed to put everything together, along with all the respective debugging and eventing which that implied over the last 4 days or so of the contest, but didn't feel really satisfied with the end result, as we knew we still had a lot more planned and had to cut it off due to time constraints.

But now such limitation is out of the way!

As both him and me have been busy ever since, we haven't fully returned to polish it yet, but I get the feeling that time has finally come lol.

That aside, here are some concept sketches for Sayako:

And of course, EE hasn't been lazying off!

He asked Yami to help out to flesh out the many systems we had evented, and the result is real eye candy my friends.

This is the new Item menu which Sayako utilizes, comes with super smooth animations.

And of course, these are the new flashlight and stamina systems, characterized by being bug free smooth gameplay elements (a feature they lacked before lolol).

I can't really show it here, but the flashlight also works out really well, as it smoothly spins along the character, whenever they face a different direction, as opposed to abruptly just lighting up in the default 4 directions. The icons you see in both screenshots were made by EE, along every other graphical element, props to him and Yami of course.

Stay tuned for Sayako's Revamped release, her time is near~

Peace out from EE, Yami and I.
