Emi has come through the Manor relatively unscathed, though it took her a while to get over what she experienced there. Three months have passed since then and on their way back from a successful exorcism she and her father decide to stop at a lodge while heading home through the Nirelog forest.

When Emi wakes she finds herself alone in a haunted forest, her father missing. All she has with her is a backpack, a bottle of water and a flashlight.

What is this?

This is the next of the Map Madness series. It is a collaborative effort where people join up and make a map using the graphics specified. The maps are then made into a game that can be enjoyed by all who play.
The focus of this collaboration is Atmosphere.

How do I join?

Sing up in the comments below, make your map and send it to me (Liberty) before the 20th of October. I will then 'sew' it all together into a coherent game, ready for release on Hallow's Eve.

Rules?

There will be, in the interest of getting this done in time, a few extra rules this time around.

- You must use REFMAP graphics to create your map. (You can edit them if necessary but use them as the base of your maps. You can find a link to them at the bottom of this page.)
- Each map must be no larger than 30x30. This makes it easier for me to fit them together.
- You can only have one exit on any side of the map, but no more than four and no less than one.
- No extensions. If it's not ready, then sadly, too bad.
- I don't mind if you add a small puzzle or something, but remember that each map is going to be part of a whole game so don't go overboard. (I'm looking at a few of you guys from last time)
- Atmosphere is the name of the game.
- If you need switches or variables, let me know ASAP.
- Do not use anything in the Database - this means no default battles, no monsters, no items, no skills or animations of any kind.
- Keep in mind this is a forest.
- Please no movie files. Parallaxes and overlays are fine, but keep in mind the grid if you do decide to parallax. >.<;

Submissions?

When submitting please do the following:
- Make sure all sounds, character sets, pictures, parallaxes and chipsets used are in the folder. These include RTP sounds that you might have used.
- Zip up the whole game folder and send me a link to it. Lockers are ideal for this.
- All maps must be in by the 20th of October, Midnight GMT.

I have a question...

What's with the names of these events?
They're from something my cousin wrote just before he killed himself. So, yeah, these are sort of homage to him in that respect. I do hope no-one minds.
The here and now of yesterday
Where end Time's saddest songs
Apon the brow tomorrow clear
We, thoughtless, dream along
And through the truth of never-been
Sit, watch as time flies by
For left, unspoken words I hear
And empty lyrics lie

Where can I get the graphics?

Right here, my friend, right here~

Done~

Ah, just made it in the nick of time!
So the project is finally done - and within the month, too! Yay!
I just got through a run with Decky and Indrah as play testers (hats off to you, dearies~<3 ) and fixed up a lot of the issues that were still prevalent. That said, there might be some things I missed, so let me know if you run into anything that seems out of place.

Now, I'll probably add up the walkthrough and credits list after I've had some sleep. It's been a long night. Enjoy the game and much thanks to all who were a part of Forest Map Madness this year. Keep your eyes out for the Director's Cut (which will contain the proper Father sprites as well as some extra content).

A friendly reminder that there's still some time to join the fan fun contest. Just check the Fan Fun page. Voting will happen on the 7th, so keep your eyes peeled for that, too.

Didn't see it.
Sorry...wait, that didn't appear in my notices? Wow...
Current update is as follows:
I've done some eventing and mapping. Also planned out the different parts of what little story there is. I've also received back a few maps so far. They all look pretty nice so far (great job guys!).

About 6 days left until the submission for maps ends.

Also started the Fan Art competition, with the chance to win anything worth under $10 at the RPG Maker store. That includes music and graphics. So far we have one entry. ^.^; Hopefully more will come in or it'll be far too easy to guess who wins.
Of course, anyone can join in, even if you're not the best artist (also, I'll pick the best design of Emi's father as the canon look for him.)

I think that's all the news thus far.
Count me in Liberty, if you would please.
Glad to see you received mine C:.
This sounds great! ...Me wants in but me is computerless right now. What can me do? ;_;
Hm... You could join that fan art competition (on the Fan Fun page) and help design the Father? Or whip up a cool title screen image?
It's a pity, though. I was looking forward to seeing what awesome map you'd come up with. :<
We're approaching the submission deadline for maps~
How is everyone going? If you don't have the maps ready by Midnight GMT of the 20th, you can still send in the maps up until the 31st, however they might not make it into the Halloween version of the game.
(There might be a Director's cut afterwards, like with the last game.)
I'm aware that the due date is over but as I have to do some things and won't be able to start RMing until tonight, you have about 5 more hours to send in those maps.

Now, if you don't get them in before the deadline, worry not. You can send them in over the next week, but be aware that they might not make it into the Halloween version of the project (unless I have enough time) and may instead be added to the 'Directors Cut' version instead.

That said, more maps please~ OM NOM NOM <3

Also, don't forget the Fan Fun competition! And the guessing game will go up when I get home too.
Yeah, I won't be able to get anything in by the 31st... Might as well take me off the list! It's been a busy month for me.
That's okay, Azn~
If you want to still make a map, the Director's Cut will have extra content~ It currently has no due date, though preferably before Christmas would be nice~ XD

DLC planned before the game comes out *tsk tsk* :p
Just goes to show I'm making better progress on this one than the last. ^.^
(Wouldn't be hard to beat, actually, considering it took me about a year to get it done. :/ )

Download complete. Let's check this out!
WAITTTT!
I forgot to make the start position in the right spot! ;.;
And there was a bug. :\
I'm re-updating now. >.<; There's always something I miss.
The rain BGM stays on after Decky's map into mine. It really doesn't suit my map with the butterflies and chirping birds. =(

It's even stranger cause the scarecrow part cuts out the rain BGM, but it's still raining. This only happens coming from the north. The standard track plays when entering from the south.
It's actually an issue with the Weather system in 2k3. If there's any rain, it automatically plays the rain sounds, regardless - just at different volumes. :\
Barring eliminating rain altogehter, there's really nothing I can do about it.
I'll poke around and try to find something though.
Really? I'm pretty sure Decky Map 01 has a parallel process top left corner that's playing BGM se-rain. And all the maps south of it have entrust to event bgms or same as parent.

I think playing the default theme song as you teleport south would pretty much cover for that.
Okay. I'll check it out and see if that works. I've just about caught all the bugs so far. Just waiting to hear from one more tester and I'll post up the best version to date. If anyone finds something that seems to be a bug, please let me know!
