A Short Game About Finding A Name

Intro
Where End Times Saddest Song is a short adventure game which centered around a girl who is exploring an unknown land.

Music
I love the music. It sounds relaxing and creates the right atmosphere for the story.

Graphics
Although the mappings are inconsistent (mostly because of those being worked for an event), they look good enough and nicely put together. I really like the area with the pumpkin head which changes the scenery (and exit path) after you interacted with it. Sadly, some areas are way too dark; I barely can see anything. Take a look at this screenshot for an example.

What are those creatures below the cliffs? Huh? You can't see it? Well, that's how dark the lighting can be!

Sure, there are also some areas where you can use a lighter (since it's darker than the other maps, it said), but it looks funny and doesn't really help either.

Look! I'm glowing!

Story
Honestly, i don't understand the story.. at all. I only know that you are somehow moved to a forest-like place and you have to find a way to get out from there (and find your dad while you're at it) and it turns out that you need to find your father's name to get out, and then it turns out that it's all just a "dream".

The game doesn't really have a lot of dialogues to begin with and when there are some, it tends to say the thing that i already know (you have to find your father's name to get out) and unlocking something completely different from what they said (for example, the cat said that you have to find a name although finishing its quest will grant you an access to new area).

However, i find the first cutscene to be funny since both characters are stopping for each tile when they walk (ps: they are walking in a straight line.. for more than one tile).

The game
The game offers a lot of exploration. Most of key items will glitter on the map although some (especially fish, one of the most important item) won't glitter. The dark lighting makes it hard to find the fishes and i ended up looking the walkthrough to find the last one. I also find it very annoying when there is a delay when you are interacting with something (especially chest).

There are three major areas in this game and you'll need to do something to unlock more areas. This also means that you'll be going back and forth to the same area several times to unlock the areas. If you stuck, you can always go to all areas to find what you may miss. There is this one area, however, where the camera speed is faster than the other area (the one with the trees which you can cut).

Lastly, i don't know where to put this, but the matches icon is missing when you're not hovering it. (not hovered | hovered)

Pros:
- Great atmosphere

Cons:
- Lighting in some areas are way too dark
- Confusing story detail

Conclusion
It's an adventure game with lots of exploration. It's a great game if you don't mind the lighting and story.
