Walkthrough


Please note that the way you tackle this game is a bit different as there is currently no very clear directions in which you have to go. Hence this walkthrough will be more of an item listing guide than anything else, with a few hints thrown in for good measure.
I'll probably update it when the Director's Cut comes out as it will be more of a sequenced game than the current version, though still not exactly linear.

"A guitar pick with a small diamond in the centre. It looks expensive."

"A green-fletched arrow. Sought by the ghost of an ancient archer."

"Father's spirit-self. He doesn't seem to see me."

Walkthrough:
When you wake up you will find yourself in a small clearing with a sign. There are three exits - North, East and West. To the North is the path that leads to The Dark.
You cannot get too far heading that way yet, but you do need to head there in order to get the chest combination and first item. You will find the item in the cave to the north of the map with the lightning bolts. The chest on that map will reveal the special chest combination that will lower a barrier to the east.
Head back to the starter clearing. Heading to the West will lead you to the Waterfall areas. However, again, the way forward is blocked. You can head West again to find one of the items in a stump which will come in handy later, as well as a letter.
Now that you've gotten those items, head to the East.
The first map will have two ways to go - through a cave and to the ruins. It's best to go through the cave first.
Head north of the cave and you'll reach a map with zombies and ruins. You have the combination for the chest, so use it to lower the barrier and continue forward.
In the ruins you will find another item on the table that will help you get through the Dark.
Heading through the ruins will lead you to an area with a switch and a Door. The door cannot be used as of yet, but hitting the switch will open the doors to the Eastern ruins.
Hit the switch and head all the way back to where the cave opens and this time head to the East.
On the next map you'll find another cave. Head in there to grab another item that will help you get through the Dark. Now, you can head back and through the Dark or decide to go forward.
To the East you will find yourself in the Eastern ruins. You can see a door with an item in there, but it cannot be reached quite yet.
Continuing through the ruins, you will find a book. Reading it will give you the directions of how to get through the Lost woods.
Continuing south will lead to two places - the Bard's grove and the Viewing Hill.
In the Bard grove you will be tasked with finding an item for the Bard ghost. If you do this he will give you a hint for something for the full game.
On the hill you will find your Father's spirit, but he will not remember you.

Head back to the Dark. You can now enter. To the north of the first map you will find a dead, hollow tree. If you got the item from the West you can trigger a scene where you will meet the archer who asks you to retrieve an item for him.
To the West you will find a map to the North where you will meet a cat who demands fish. You will gain an item from him and have to collect the fish.
To the West of that area you will find the first fish. You will also, after the southern exit, find the item the archer is looking for.
Head back to the archer and give him the item and he will give you the clue of where to find the Name-Keeper. On that same map you can find another fish.

Head to the Lost Woods. Follow the directions you were given and you will get through them. This map has two exits. Go first to the eastern one and you will find a warp to the ruins. There you will gain the Bard's item. When you give it to him you will learn more about the forest.
The Western map will lead to some caves. Take the northern route to them to find another fish.

Head back to the area just before the Eastern ruins. There you will find the last of the fish. Take them back to the cat and he will tell you more about the forest and open the way to the Name-Keeper.

Head back through the Lost woods and take the route to the caves. Instead of heading north through the caves, follow the path to the east to find a hidden area. There you will meet the Name-Keeper who will give you your Father's Name.

Head all the way back to the Lookout Hill and grab your father, then head back through the Northern ruins to where the door and switch were. Go through the door and you will be free of the forest.
