This is an entry to the 2012 All Hallows' Event game competition so don't expect it to be fantastic. It's meant to be made in a month, after all.

Story:-
Ted isn't spending his Halloween at his friend's cool party. No, instead he's being forced to do something useful by his lame parents: babysitting trick-or-treaters. Despite wanting to ditch such a boring chore, Ted has been offered compensation for his time in the form of money - money Ted could use to throw his own cool party!

Ted escorts two of his neighbour's kids around: Felix and Rex, both of whom enjoy causing trouble and running off on their own. Getting bored, Ted decides he wants to cut things short and go home (maybe he can still catch the end of that party). When Rex asks if they can go to the next street of houses, Ted tells him that there's a scary abandoned house that they shouldn't go near! Being the adventurous type, Rex drags his sister off to go find it. Fearing he won't get his money, Ted follows them and finds the abandoned house he thought he had made up. Inside, he finds a portal which he follows Rex and Felix through.. into another dimension!

This dimension seems exactly the same as his own, but Ted finds there are a few certain.. quirks.. to be wary of.

Gameplay:-
A stealth based game where you'll be avoiding baddies. If you get caught, you'll be sent back to the start of the stage. I dunno how many stages this game is going to have just yet, but I'd like to get at least 10 short strips of "town" environment to venture through.

In one stage, I kept repeating the same mistake (What do they say about people who repeat a mistake, and expect a different result?), and didn't see what I was supposed to do 'til my fifth attempt.

I'm no expert, but I'd call that a solid "D".

Well you did eventually learn what to do, so you could go back to the stage and easily get an A later on! But there are people who would just rather shrug it off and go "meh, well I got it eventually, time to do the next puzzle!" and just charge on ahead with a straight row of D's, and there are people who are upset with their D's and want to improve them, so they replay the level until they have A's!

This'll be doubly rewarding, because there may be something you missed on a stage which could give you a cool item/lotsa Ghosties or even send you to another, hidden Stage.

Slight spoiler:
(I dunno if you saw on the 3rd Stage but there's a part where the second monster is spinning around which is barricaded off. This'll be a hidden extra Stage later on!)

I was wondering about that!

*Ignores the spoiler for now*
Maybe the better you do the better party you get in the end?
And yeah though I provided you with the title, Caz, I'm kinda competing a bit too. I'd really like to win the copy of Ace since I don't have anything above 2k3 right now and can't really afford to buy it.

There'll only be one playable character really (Ted). Once/if you find one of the kids, I might make a minigame especially for him/her, but I dunno how much of this game I can actually do at the minute considering I have.. *looks at calendar* half a month! Oh hell!

And don't worry about the competing. Someone's gonna swoop in at the end with a beautiful entry and trump us all. XD And I already have Ace, so if I win (highly doubtful) it'd go to the second place winner and so on.

(oh and thanks for the title, friendly-friendship-friend. :P)

Hope you enjoy what little gameplay is in the demo, Spirit!

As a small update, I have implemented the grading system. It could do with some tweaking, but it currently works out that if you get caught more than two times and spend forever on the Stage, you'll get a D; if you're quick but grab all the Ghosties and goodies, you'll bag a C or a B depending on if you're caught; if you run through without grabbing anything, you'll probably get an A.

You can also get 'Magical Running Shoes' which can be found under rare circumstances (and they're finite) or you can buy them at the end-of-game (possibly gonna be a mid-game too) shop. They make you run as fast as if you were dashing and last for one Stage before they magically fall off. They're a good way to ensure you can collect all the Ghosties but still get a good grade.

I'm also making an indoor level where you can hide in cupboards. :3

As for that spoiler:

The secret Stage is done and has adequate goodies, and will lead onto another Stage full of niceness!

I just hope I can get this done before the 31st, especially as I'll be away from my laptop next week.

Ooooh I like the hide in cupboards idea mission... makes me think of that game that I can't remember the name of... heh.

It's sounding good, I wish you luck finishing it

Thanks Galv! I will at the very least be able to release what I have now, which isss.. about 10 minutes of gameplay. Maybe.

I kinda stole the idea from Amnesia, as there's a lot of non-violent cupboard-hiding in that game!
Heh... that's the game I was thinking of. I 'forgot' it was called 'Amnesia'. Maybe I should go back into the cupboard now...

Being the clever lady I am, I brought my laptop with me when I went away for all of last week so I could work on this.

Being the lazy lady I am, I decided that time would be better spent playing Minecraft. Oops.. I'll just cram the remaining storyline in now and run. XD
Minecraft is so addictive... I understand your dilemma.
Yay! You managed to finish it :D

I just played your latest download and managed to get through it with the horrible score of D's across all stages hehe... but wanting to get my C's plus wanting to get enough coins to try the bundles at the end make for great replayability.
Good job!

Let give this a spin!

*Edit: Maybe it's just me, but things seemed a little harder this time around? I dunno. Anyway, I don't think it necessary to re-play the opening sequence after leaving the shop. I would recommend putting players back to the first stage directly. Though, if you want to have some kind of ROUND counter, and display that rather than the intro sequence, that's an option.

There's only about 3 days left. So, if you want to make these changes later, supposing you make them at all, I won't hold it against you.

Yeah, I wanted to make it so that if you chose to go through carefully and grab all the Ghosties, you'll either get a C or a D (depending on time). If you used some Magical Running Shoes, you can easily pick up all the Ghosties and get away with a B. If you just run straight through, you're likely to get an A. :P Thanks for testing it out! I'm glad it has good replay value!

The addition of the scoring system might've made things seem a little harder, and I made some of the indoor levels quite tricky if you wanted those extra Ghosties (there's a cupboard that is pretty much constantly under surveillance). But tricky = good, because it gives you a reason to buy more Magical Running Shoes at the end! And I like people wasting their Ghosties on Shoes instead of nice sprites to use. XD

I did leave a bit of time at the end for changes, so I think I will remove that intro section. When I was doing testing, I was ninja-dashing through every level so by the time I got to the end, the game had only taken about 5 minutes to complete. The intro itself takes about 3 minutes to watch, and was starting to irritate me watching it over and oooover.. so yeah, I think I'll take that bit out. I don't think anyone's going to forget the incredibly simple story any time soon, so it's not necessary.

Thanks for the help, guys! Time to make some last minute changes!
Judge CC's CC for sexy CC of CC..?!?!
- Title screen is nice.

- OA? Awesome :D

- The house's light effect is awesome.

- I like the sprites.

- I'm enjoying the story so far.

- On the 2nd monster, how the fuck can he see me if I'm hiding behind the house.

- <3 world map.

- I'm having a lot of fun. :)

- I love your mapping.

- <3 color coding text.

- Shouldn't the game keep score if I start over?

- THIS GAME IS TOO SHORT X-||||||

This is the first game that didn't serve to piss me off at the end. But it is too short. If it was longer, It would be one hard game to beat <3
Nevertheless, I had FUN playing it the whole way through.

CC's CC is fantastically well-received and useful! Thank you!

I'm glad you like! As for the issues:

- With the second monster (on stage 1, I assume?) you're only really half-hidden behind the roof. If the perspective was correct, you'd still be visible (I really should've made the tops of the roofing passable). Kinda wanged that bit up, but maybe I'll set that bit behind the house to count as "cover" so you can hide there.

- I did kinda want to keep the stage scores but I figured if you got all A's in your first go, there'd be no real motivation to get all A's again because it'd show as already having them. I guess if you know in your mind that you did well before, the score showing isn't that important.. right? :P

But I'm glad you're enjoying it! Trust me, if I'd had more time, this game would be hella long. In future I'll fill out the end-game shop a lot more to contain new stages and areas to explore.

Thanks for your mini review! ^^

It would be better to get an A for being both quick and getting all the items, as that's likely the hardest to do, in my opinion, and the other slightly lower scores for either being super-thorough but slow or skipping items and rushing. Just my two ghosties.

I see what you did thar..

I suppose I could rework the scoring system to include a 'percentage Ghosties gathered' score which would contribute to your overall good-doing.

I'll probably do that in the next update. I'm pretty tired from work at the mo, so it may be a while. XD
