Candy Fangs is a short game designed for the All Hallows Event. The developer suggests it will take 20 minutes, my final save clocked in at around 40 but then I spent a bit of time hunting down all the NPC's. As the name suggests it's not meant to be taken with any degree of seriousness, after all this is a tale of monster versus children wielding the power of candy! It's a good thing it's Halloween and candy is available at every house.

Arise, ye warriors of candy!

The graphics are pretty much stock RTP, but given the brevity of the game that's hardly surprising, though it does include the DS face-sets and character sprites for a bit of variety. Battles are classic turn based with a break script added, and with candy being your only weapon, defence and healing option there is an element of strategy added to the battles, as you only have limited stocks and have to choose when to use them with care.

After the explanatory intro screens you start the game with a full complement made up of the other children in your town, as well as a few adults who've obviously realised those monsters aren't actually kids in costumes. You join forces to over-saccharine the enemy in combats that can be surprisingly challenging and whilst there is a revive candy, aptly named Saintly Chocolate, it's exceedingly rare, so make sure you watch your health closely and swap out characters that are too low in HP if you don't want to sacrifice them.

Keeping track of your goals is via a handy heads up display letting you know how many more monsters you have to caramelise and how many people are left to hit up for their candy stash. Each neighbourhood in the town is a level and each level finishes with a boss appearing once you've wiped out all the lesser monsters.

That's it man, game over man, game over!.

There are no levels in the game, no equipment, no spells in the traditional sense, just candy in all its myriad revolting and explosive forms. In other words, exactly what it says on the box (candy box that is). Give it a go; if you got to the end of this review you could have been halfway through the game by now.

I actually found it through the random screen-shot function, and it looked interesting. I'm glad I played, and yes I did have fun, so thanks for making it.
