xOMBYCAPYSE is a
[wtf no idea what genre it is]
by Moga/CARRIONBLUE. I decided to review it as part of RMN's Reviewrim event, in which I set myself on a quest to review ALL of Moga's games.

First thing: If you ask me: "Should I read the review before playing the game?" My answer is: no if you want the full effect, but yes if you don't want to get completely lost in your first minutes.

This game is an assault on your senses and sanity and an Fword to gaming conventions in some ways (at least aesthetically). If you strip the game of all that's crazy and cool about it, it is a very simple fetch-quest adventure. Your mission is to:

1. talk to your friend
2. talk to the witch (I don't even know if necessary)
3. kill the bartender
4. take bartender head to witch to enter forest
5. get trainticket inside forest
6. take train and leave the xOMBYCAPYSE
(hold on to this is list, it's kind of a walkthrough)

Obstacles are:
a. the game is timed to 2m30s
b. you have a weapon item that can be used 10 times (means you can kill 10 xombys with it). You must collect such items or xOMBYS will kill you.
c. there are spikes on the floor (Moga love those, damn you evil Moga).

That's pretty much it.

BUT that's not really what this game is.

xOMBYCAPYSE has high contrast screaming graphics that would make Molasses Meow jealous. Pretty much every object in the screen blinks and flickers and tilts in flashing eye-hurting colors. The music/background sound is also pretty wild. The font is very hard to read, and the cropped dialog doesn't help much.
The game shocks you in your first contact with it, because you have no clue what's going on and everything is so crazy. After you start making sense of things, that's when it really gets scary. Because it takes some time before you find out what you really have to do, and AFTER you find out, you realize the time limit is waaaaaay too short. I mean, WAY too short. Expect to fAIL many times, either by stepping on spikes or by running out of time. It's not really frustrating, as the game is very short (2m30s max!), but it's adrenalinic.

So... what to make of it?

I enjoyed it. It's a pretty awesome game and fun experience. It was just awesome, I don't think a game every made my adrenaline flow in wtfish currents that much.
But I'll admit, I cheated. Twice. First, I changed the time limit to 21min30s. I also raised my swor variable number to a very high amount. Sue me. But that was after playing the game like... 15 or 20 times. I actually got as far as almost getting the train ticket, but I couldn't possibly do it and leave that place and find my friend in under 2m30s. Moga... can you? Has anyone actually finished this game no-cheat?
Moga, your games are really cool. You have such great taste! This one was really inspired. And apart from the time limit that maybe was too short, it was actually quite balanced, unlike your other games.

You know what's funny? When I opened the game in the editor to cheat, I was baffled to notice how SIMPLE the game is, and how EXTREMELY SMALL the maps are. It's so easy to get lost inside the game that you get the feeling the maps are gigantic. But they're super small. The visual effect have a really big impact on the overall experience. It was quite an accomplishment.

Btw MOGA, you should really (I mean, really) CSS this page.

Post scriptum: I just found out this game was made in less than a day? orz
